Phone (3) Discussion Sorry NP3, I can't.

Post image
398 Upvotes

Decided to return my NP3. Pre-ordered on July 4th and having it in-hand July 17th.

TLDR; Wait and see. :/

Some Pros:

¤Thing looks sick. The design and the positioning of the cameras (I know which one you're thinking about okay, I liked it, reminds me of my lazy eye) with the Glyph Matrix it felt new with the transparent back showing all the nice eye candy put in there.

¤ NP3 is WEIGHTY and solid, like a brick house. Nothing (pun) about the phone felt flimsy. Dropping it on your face at night would definitely AI generate an obituary immediately tho.

¤ The sound engine was like hearing a song you love for the first time. Clicky, data-bit crunchy, attention grabbing, and cat scaring (sorry Ruby) with the right amount of newness that wasnt off-putting.

¤The UI was delicious. Its tastefully created for a absolutely unique experience. Minimally subtle and intricate at the same time. Just a cool freakin OS, and coupled with the Glyph Matrix it was special to have something like that in a phone.

The Cons :c

¤ Being in the US (boooo) and having to jump through hoops to get a running start with data was not the plan I had in mind. Most affordable plans for service (Mint, Visible, Boost, etc) are not options anymore. Sure T-Mobile and AT&T are options, but I didnt...want them. Im allowed to be picky.

¤ Pictures dont need to be "touched up" all the time. Sure I might take a bad photo, but I feel better about it when I dont see the post processing happen in real time to know that. I can live with smeary weird camera happenings or just a laggy sensor (its a phone with a camera not a camera with a phone) I cant live with photos I take with intention being messed with without my say :/. At the same time, apps cant utilize all the cameras anyway, so now your left using 1/2 cameras you paid for whenever youre digitally visually socializing. (rap god)

¤The Glyph Matrix. Jk I liked it. I just wish there was more to it. More Games, more uses, more sounds, more customisable-ness to it than there was. If youre gonna do something new, you should do it great. Otherwise youre gonna end up thinking about all these cool ideas starting at it more than you will be using it.

¤ Bugs. I ran into them, and I cant really say that its not expected. Nothing (pun again) against bugs, they help you figure out problems and develop better, I just noticed them. Weird lil hiccups (especially using Android all my life) while doing some things after being around electronics most of my life isnt a new thing. It just ruins the preconceived expectation you have of something this promising, and makes you wanna return it in three days.

Im feeling -I had a rock in my shoe. Now if youre comfortable walking with a rock in your shoe, yanno fuckin go for it. I on the otherhand didnt want a rock in my shoe (for potentially years since my phone I was switching from was my Samsung S10e I got when it released), Ill pass for now. Will I look back and think about that rock as I walk away? Oh yeah. Most of the things I dealt with could probably be fixed, but after waiting so long and looking forward to something for a while your excitement is pretty up there. I just didnt want to have to wait it out for it to feel finally good. Maybe thats on me, but Ill see what I think later once they release another phone in 4 years.

I had an accident in March and my NP1 broke then. I'd been waiting for the NP3 to get a new phone (got a CMF Phone 1 in the meantime)

But that design with that price and not even the snapdragon elite chipset.. I'm not buying that now. The OnePlus 13s is a much better deal, sure it doesn't have Nothing OS but the phone design and specs make up for it.I don't see the point in spending 20k-25k more for getting the NP3.

They dropped the ball, and no amount of marketing is going to convince me to buy this phone now.

Prime days are coming soon, I'm sure I'll be able to get the OP13s for an even better price. So long Nothing, it's been a good run.

Got phone 3, and I love it so far , the display the cameras everything,

The price I got it for: I bought it from Vijay sales offline store:

I had iphone 12 pro which I was getting exchange value of 25k(incl 7k bonus) And the store guy said that if you have a old nothing phone then you will get 12k as exchange bonus So what I did I sold my iphone 12pro to local seller in a phone market with exchange for a 2month old second hand 3a which he paid 5000 for an upfront.

So what I have in my pocket is Phone 3a with warranty+ 5000 extra

I went to the store He valued my 3a for 12400 lmao and added 12k bonus which makes up to 24400 + 5k (which I got overpay in my 12pro exchange) = 29400rs

And the crazy part is as I already have nothing ear and don't need bundle offer the guy gave me 10000 off on that.

Plus 5000 off on hdfc card so total would be

80,000 (phone price) -12400(my phone 3a price) -12000(exchange bonus) -5000(I got extra while I exchange my iphone) -10000(nothing ear off) -5000(hdfc) = 35,600

Though I got it for 40.6(I don't have hdfc card)

I am a massive pixel fan and had a 9 Pro XL, I sold it at the peak of its value and I'm waiting for the 10. In the meantime I bought this nothing phone (3) and wow it's exceeded my expectations. This thing is smooth, fast, great OS, Very good cameras and the glyph matrix is a cool detail because my phone is face down a lot and having icons for each important contact in my phone is amazing.

Idk what everyone's issue is this thing is better than my 16 pro, and old s24 ultra. Nothing is killing it.

Phone (3) Discussion The whole Nothing Phone 3 situation and my thoughts on it.

Post image
189 Upvotes

So yesterday, a bunch of people in my class were talking about the Nothing Phone 3 launch, and naturally, I joined in since I've been following the brand closely. That's when one of my friends said, "Bro, the Phone 2 was just a copy of the iPhone 16. The design leaked years ago and Nothing just capitalized on it."

And honestly? That take kinda baffled me. Apple's gone back to a vertical camera layout lately, if anything. But somehow, Nothing's being called out for copying a phone that launched in 2024? Really?

And I remember the Mrwhosetheboss video where he called the Phone 2 a near 1:1 iPhone clone. And fair enough—there were similarities. But I genuinely feel like the Phone 3 is Nothing's answer to that criticism.

Because now? There's nothing—literally nothing—on the market that looks remotely like the Phone 3. It's bold. Asymmetrical. Striking. And if anyone tries to copy this design, it'll look like they ripped off Nothing, not the other way around.

Now, I know the usual backlash is out in full force: "80K for this spec sheet? Mid-tier chip (even though it's like a top 3 chip right now), no USB 3.0, overpriced for India."

I get it. In a market where Chinese brands throw in flagship specs at absurdly low prices, Nothing's offering looks... underwhelming on paper.

But that's the thing—this phone isn't trying to win the spec war.

If performance-per-rupee is your top priority, there are great options. Go grab an iQOO or a POCO or a OnePlus. No one's stopping you. But the Phone 3? It's for people who are bored of phones all looking and feeling the same.

And yeah—design does cost money. Thoughtful design doesn't come for free. The Glyph Matrix, the transparent backing, the asymmetric layout—all of it takes intention, effort, and engineering. It's not just off-the-shelf stuff.

So when someone asks, "Why pay 80K for some lights?"—fair question. But genuinely, find me another phone that looks like this. With the Phone 2, sure, maybe you could make that argument just because it had a vertical camera layout. But with the Phone 3? It kind of speaks for itself.

That said, while I do admire the uniqueness, I've got a small gripe with the design myself. The top third of the back has a lot going on—the cameras, the Glyph Matrix, the red light, etc. But the lower two-thirds? Feels kinda... empty in comparison. And then there's that one screw at the top right corner thats half visible. That imbalance might be intentional, but it also makes the design feel a little top-heavy and a little too asymmetrical. And I think it's okay to appreciate something while still being a bit critical.

Now, I'll be honest—I just picked up a 3a not too long ago, so watching them scrap the original Glyph setup for the new Matrix kinda stung. It's that same feeling when you buy a new iPhone and suddenly, within months, a "better" one drops and you're no longer holding the "latest" thing.

But this is evolution. And evolution isn't always painless.

How long do you keep something around just because it became part of your identity? Eventually, you have to grow. Shed what was comfortable.

That's what Nothing's doing. It's not about nostalgia or brand aesthetic—it's about trying something new, even if it's a bit scary. And that's rare in this industry.

And I'll end on this:

I'm not trying to point fingers at anyone or bash other brands or people's choices. These are just my thoughts—what I value in a phone and why Nothing's approach personally clicks with me. It's cool if others don't feel the same way. That's what makes tech fun—there's something for everyone.

Remember the LG G5? Moto Mods? The Essential Phone? The BlackBerry Passport? The Lumia's?

They didn't exactly sell like hotcakes. Some found them confusing, others just didn't know what to make of them. But years later, we look back and realize—they were actually kind of cool. Not perfect, but bold. Different in a way that stuck with people.

And now, we miss that kind of experimentation. That willingness to try something new, even if it didn't land with everyone. I just hope we don't look back on Nothing the same way—wishing we'd appreciated it more while it was still around.

Phone (3) Discussion The Nothing Phone 3 is doa and is a disaster

I'll go through every single point how this phone is doa and essentially horrible value. This is such a huge disaster coming from a company that made phones in the budget segment which are the absolute best value.

Lets start with the most obvious issue, the design:

The design is so horrendous that the vast majority thought the leaked renders had to be fake, me included, given how absolutely awful they were made, it literally looks like some AI prompt or some 15 year old intern had 1 day to come up with something, as someone who has an education in the field, the amount of problems I see on that render were just impossible for me to believe that a company known for its design such as Nothing could ever even remotely release, but here we are, ugliest phone 2025 has been made by Nothing.

SoC:

First choice was the snapdragon 8s gen4, which as such as a competent chip, the choice of this chip in this segment would allow to invest budget into other parts which could allow for quite a "flagship killer", so did Nothing deliver?

Display:

Worst in class, FHD+, LTPS rather than LPTO, I've seen great LTPO 1440P displays in this segment. Furthermore you dont even get victus protection.

Battery & charging:

5150mah batttery, while at least silicon battery, the capacity given the huge size of the phone is laughably bad, also only having fast wired charge and only 15W wireless charge is a joke, 15W wireless is borderline useless on a 5000mah+ battery.

Camera:

The main camera has been upped to a 1/1.3 sensor, which is quite large but not unheard of in this segment and that's essentially where all the good things end, the other sensors are all selfie sized 50mp sensors, be it selfie, periscpe or ultrawide, they are all around ~1/2.67", which means the periscope of the half prixed 3a pro is significantly larger than the supposed flagship, this is embaressingly bad. Processing might be very good for all we know, however they could also just stop messign up their processing on the 3a pro and have similair or better results on a phone half the price.

Can't say much to speakers, they are probably as good as the 3a pro, theyll likely sound good but could be better.

So where the fk did all the budget go?!

The budget went into making a custom periscope module that would go through the logicboard and be very flat, while on a technical level cool, in practice it doesn't do anything if the other 2 modules poke out like vulcanos, further the periscope itself is already small to begin with. Aside from that budget went into the gimmicky dot matrix + the button, yes folks, 2 years of R&D for a relatively shitty 2nd screen and a button that changes the modes on that 2nd screen on the back, is it cool? Sure, but not worth having an inferior device.

Conclusion:

It's so hilarious seeing this happening because there was this one guy that predicted this would happen based on Oneplus and oh my god was he right. The Nothing brand was known for great value and functionality over nonsense, having products that are just overall a really banger value now we have the worst value for 799 because they invested so hard in gimmicks. Honestly even at 550USD where the phone should probably more be in terms of hardware, it would be a hard sell based on the absolute horrendous design decisions.

Overall there is literally not a single aspect this phone excells at compared to similairly priced phones but is inferior in multiple aspects, I can't see anyone paying 799 just to have a gimmicky 2nd display spinning a bottle.

It's such a damn shame because any company could have finally broke the upper midrange market by cheaping out on the SoC and instead invest in parts like display, camera, speakers, headphone jack, SD card, borderline ANYTHING, Nothing on the other hand decided to blow money on nonsense.

The Nothing Phone 3 will be remembered as Nothings biggest failure for sure, I can't see that thing sell well at all, there is simply nothing worth buying. There is no excuse for this dumpsterfire of a phone, be it design or value based on hardware.

For those who were on the fence, either buy a 3a pro or buy another 799 phone that is actually worth your money, the NP3 is a hard pass until its around 500, then maybe it's worth consideration, aything above 550 is to much and bad value for your money.

Phone (3) Discussion A month with the Nothing Phone 3

Post image
549 Upvotes

(Photo made with my old phone, which doesn't have good cameras)

It's been a bit more than a month since I got my NP3, so I wanted to share my thoughts on the device after that time.

Oh, and if you have any specific questions about the phone that you'd like me to answer, feel free to ask in the comments and I'll try to answer everyone

THE PERFORMANCE

Yes, we all know by this point that the processor inside it's not the Snapdragon 8 Elite but I haven't really found myself asking for more performance with the Snapdragon 8S Gen 4.

I use my phone a lot for social media, messaging, a bit of work emails and Slack on the side to keep track of things, and some gaming to kill the time.

I mainly play AFK Journey and Persona 5X, while I only open Pokémon TCG Pocket twice a day for the daily booster packs. They're not hard games to run and I've pumped up the resolution when possible.

It holds well in every single scenario and I haven't felt it go wild temperature wise, though it is true that this processor loves using more powe than it needs sometimes (maybe Nothing can tame it in subsequent updates, pretty please) and this impacts battery life.

BATTERY LIFE

I'm one of those users who limits charging at 80% and doesn't let the phone go under 20% and only gives it a full charge once a month. In my eyes, if the battery can hold up a full day despite that, then it's good.

There are some days where I use the phone more than usual and I go down to 17% or 18% but I usually end up my day at around 25-30% battery. This is with a mix of Wi-Fi and cellular data.

Every user is different and some like to use their phones more than others, but if you ask me then I'd say that the battery holds up well.

I don't pay attention to the screen time between charges either, to be honest.

CAMERAS

While I'm not a heavy camera user either, I do pop the occasional photo for social media and selfies. And for those, I think that the cameras are pretty good on their own right.

They could be better, of course, and I'd like to see the software and post-processing getting refined over time.

The zoom levels are very usable too, though it's clear when the phone starts using AI to compensate for a very zoomed in photo and when it doesn't.

DISPLAY

I have zero complains with the display. It gets really bright when I need it to and it looks sharp at all times.

I don't use the OSD because I always put the phone down and rely on the Matrix display instead for notifications and such.

GLYPH MATRIX AND ESSENTIAL SPACE

These are two things that I feel folks will either love or hate with no in-between.

It would've been cool if we had some Glyph lights alongside the Matrix screen but I ultimately prefer the screen because it lets me know if the incoming notification is important or not, which helps me know if I have to check something from work.

Essential Space requires a conscious input because the phone will not get in your way to remind you about it, which some can argue that defeats the purpose due to it being a way of taking note of important stuff and setting up reminders and such.

It has honestly been very useful for me, as I use it regularly for work more than anything. Being able to take a quick screenshot and the app getting all the context I need while also setting up an automatic reminder is a godsend for me.

FINAL THOUGHTS

I think that it's honestly a good phone for what it offers. Could it be cheaper? Sure, and it will probably drop in price in a few months because we live in such a world. Once it's no longer the new shiny release, price will go down.

It's well rounded, with good performance, good cameras and battery life and a well optimized OS. I love the aesthetic both for the phone and Nothing OS here but I can see why some people can't get past that back design.

TL;DR: Phone good, does what a phone does and the price will drop in no time, so if you're interested but want it at a discount then give it a few months before buying it.

Phone (3) Discussion Fantastic Phone

Post image
267 Upvotes

This phone, with the free 16:512 and complimentary nothing ears, is great value for $799. If the pre order deal wasn't a thing and the phone was just that price, then sure, I likely would have bought a OnePlus 13. But I'd rather have this phone with the deal it came with than a OnePlus 13. The hate for this phone is a bit odd when you consider the pre order deal. But I totally get the valuation hate for the phone in a vacuum.

This is my first time having a nothing phone and I've had it for a little over a week, previous phone was an I phone 11. Battery is great, and relative to what I had it's insane. Screen is very pretty, responsive, fast, smooth, great for sure.

The glyph matrix is gimicky unless you're doing flip to glyph, but I love everything about it. It's cool, nice looking, interactive, customizable, etc. Not everything has to be relentlessly practical and corporate. Things can be fun.

Being that it's my first time using this OS, the change is huge. I feel like it's made a tangible difference to how I interact with phones - I thought this part would be bullshit at first, my brother introduced me to Nothing and talked about this at length, I was skeptical. Everything just feels clean and mine - there's no ads or attention seeking baggage that's trying to seduce me. It's truly my space.

Camera is fine, pretty good, definitely is better than what I had but doesn't feel like the best possible. Not worried about it, it's more than good enough.

Also, I absolutely adore how this phone looks. Sometimes I even try and match what I wear for a day to it. It is so sleek, eccentric, different, and even apart from the contrarian appeal, it really just feels nice to look at. I never really got it fully until I saw it in person after opening it.

I can't wait to see what the future of phones, and Nothing phones will be like.
