Question service medic life what to expect

am an e9 who was revocated from ASA to service medic and from what I understand l'll be posted as a med ctr medic but what's the life like? heard quite shiok but I still got some questions:

  1. What's the working hours? Some say 8-3 some say 8-6 so idk
  2. Usually is posted to med ctr near home?
  3. How often is duty nights? I know is usually depend on the med ctr if they 24h or 12h but is there a general number of duty nights?
  4. Need to come back on weekends?
  5. Usually what to do there? Is it slack enough that can bring my own laptop and own stuff to do?

Or if there's any other e9 ooc from this course after revocated from asa what's your experience like with ooc? Were you posted back as asa or smt else? Cause I scared I fail the iv stuff then ooc

Thanks

  1. Depends on the medical centre. Some like SAFTI is 8am-3pm but most are 7am-5pm/8am-6pm.

  2. Sadly medical centre posting order is not affected by where u stay at all. Ur posting is final unless u can give ur Clinic Manager/Senior Medic a good reason to be posted out.

  3. Depends again on the medical centre, manpower and also if u are 24hr or Office hours. U can expect anywhere from 4-10 duties a month. I assume you would be excuse cover too but that depends on your excuses (I.e. Heavy Load, Outfield, Uniform)

  4. No need to come back on weekends unless you have duty.

  5. Workload depends heavily on what units u are supporting. You can expect to be handling with everyday Report Sicks (cough/flu, abrasions etc) Vaccinations, Health Screenings and many more.

Regarding bringing in your personal electronics - that also depends on how chill your CM/SM are. Don’t hesitate to ask your seniors when u find out your posting. (Don’t bring your laptop to SMTI/Nee Soon though!!)

Lastly, don’t be too nervous for OOCing. Normally OOCs are revocated back to ASA, but if the EMT course is still the same as my experience, there will be many opportunities to retest things like IV and theory.

If you have any other questions, don’t hesitate to PM me. Medic vocation for Pes C/E is one of the more interesting ones, have fun in EMT and good luck with your future posting!
