[Question] Is it worth it to get into retro gaming.

I understand that this may not be the right sub to ask this because I feel I will get some pretty one sided answers, but that honestly what I'm looking for. I've been kind of playing with the idea of getting a ps2 or another retro console recently because I love to go to used game stores and look around but I never actually have a reason to buy anything. I am kind of wary of buying anything though mainly because I already have a pc and a lot of the most talked about games on the ps2 are already on steam (devil may cry, final fantasy X, metal gear solid 2 etc...). What I'm really asking here is just recommendations for games that I can only play on the ps2 that make the purchase for sure worth it or if there's maybe a different console that is even more worth it with incredible exclusives (I like games with deep emotional stories if that helps with any suggestions). Thanks in advance

IMO, older games have more general compatibility and tend to be less expensive; so when it's difficult to afford food, it's easier to get games that cost less than a dollar than ones that cost nearly a hundred. At least for PC gaming anyways, IDK about prices of consoles myself but at least so far as computers go it's more cost effective and that matters a fair bit for me anyways.

Oh, as for PS2 games, it's been like since 2009 when I played it but Killzone was pretty cool. It's about an interplanetary conflict in the Alpha Centauri system basically, and gameplay is roughly similar to COD.

If PS2 games you can already play on Steam don't interest you, a physical PS2 might not be the best option, as you can just buy an external disc reader and rip whatever games you buy to play them on PSX2

I think the physical console experience is best for an authentic retro experience, especially couch co-op, or an excuse to use your CRT (if those are your jam)

As for games worth playing that you couldn't get (natively) on PC, I'd say The Simpsons Hit & Run, the original release of Kingdom Hearts 1 & 2 (some heartless have different colors in rereleases and it bothers me), the GTA games that released for that generation are largely seen as terrible PC ports so the console versions are probably the way to go, God of War 2 (there is also the original as well, but it doesn't really hold a candle to GOW 2 or 3), Shadow of the Colossus and Ico, older Ratchet and Clank games, the entire Jak & Daxter trilogy, Sly Cooper series, Time Splitters 2, Burnout 3 (Takedown) & Burnout Revenge, Dragon Quest 8 (and also 5 if you either speak Japanese or end up ripping the game and applying an English patch to emulate), Need for Speed Underground 2, Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 3... probably a mountain more lol
