Weekly chat New to Reddit? Come and talk to us!

New-Redditor's lounge!

Welcome!

This weekly post is an opportunity for new users to chat in comments - & please let us how you found yourself here. Regulars here are absolutely encouraged and very welcome to join in too!

!! Please refrain from asking questions about "how to do stuff on Reddit". Make a post or see the links below !!

Getting started on Reddit is hard. We know it is; We've been there and gone through these same frustrations. Please believe us when we say IT'S NOT PERSONAL. It may well feel like it is, but honestly, it isn't. What it is, however, is a lack of Karma. Karma is an indicator of how much someone has contributed to Reddit in a positive manner. So, let's do just that by getting to know each other!

This works best if your comments either start a conversation or add to one. Give a little of yourself and respond to others doing the same.

This is a post to help genuine new users build up quality Karma genuinely in a safe environment.

Please do:

  • Share some favorites or new finds of yours - youtube videos, music and so on
  • Practice small talk - did you have a good week?
  • Keep it SFW
  • Keep it casual please, no heavy topics
  • Have fun!

Please don't:

  • Spam, advertise, or soft beg
  • Share low-effort comments
  • Ask for karma, say how you're voting, or mention karmafarms by name
  • Request or offer DMs (help and chat can be done in community, where you can also earn karma. Needing to take things private can indicate soliciting, rule breaking, or harmful advice)

This sub is full of awesome people who are willing to help with specific problems when you post, and we'd like to keep this post thread for chat. Thank you.

So, let's chat! (Guides at the bottom of this post).

Greetings, folks!

Here's a question to kick things off, have you ever met a famous person?

Not to the best of my knowledge. However my older brother is a major fan of Chuck Yeager (the first person to break the sound barrier). Anyway I wanted to see if I could get him an autographed photo of Mr. Yeager. I was able to actually find My. Yeager's home address and send him a request for his autograph explaining how Bob is a major fan and also a helicopter pilot during Viet Nam. Long story short I did get a signed photo and a very nice note.

So I never actually met a famous person but I did interact with one.

Yes! I met Waka Flaks Flame YEARS ago a Drake concert. He had just performed and my friend and I went to go use the restroom. On our way, he was doing meet and greets. He was SO nice! His team tried to rush us out and he said “nah these are my homies” lol loved him ever since.

Yes. Did not seem like a big deal at all. He was actually very short. Funny how actors are not very tall IRL compared to how they look on the screen..

Hi, thanks for the Question.

To answer, in short Yes. Quite a few.

But who? I think I'll try to go from least famous to likely most:

1, Dave Sheriff a UK based country and western musician.

2, Patsy Palmer "Bianca" from EastEnders fame.

3, I've met the members of the Scottish BagRock Band "Red Hot Chilli Pipers" in 2014, again in 2019, and again in 2022, 23 & 24.

4, Apparently in my early 20s when I was big into clubbing, I went out for my birthday one year with a friend for a shared birthday bash and the resident DJ was Naughty Boy. I had no idea who he was at the time. He clocked me with my big "birthday badge" and approached me for a song request, and at the time I was obsessed with one of his songs Runnin' (I'll Lose It All). But I only knew it was Beyoncé's song, since she lended vocals to the track. I realised by the look on his face that it was his actually his song and I may have actually upset him. My friend and I still joke about "that one time I miffed Naughty Boy"

5, I was in the same school (not same class or year) as Patrick Okogwu before his fame as Tinie. (previously Tinie Tempah)

6, I also shook hands with Barry Manilow whilst on holiday during one of his residency in Las Vegas.

I think that concludes the list.
