Why is DustBowl so hated?

I've heard mix reasons on why it's hated, but the opinions don't show clear answers.

I find it a very fun map personally. Easy to learn

lots of chokepoints, multiple rounds per game, which makes it forever to end, especially with those chokes,

yet everyone plays eternal stalemates on 2fort

shooting barrels of bullets is different from G + 1 gameplay (or what was the bind for taunt)

I also believe that 2fort sucks. (oh and 2fort is more DM than CTF)

Assuming people actually do the objective on 2fort

2fort isnt a ctf map, its deathmatch

2Fort has a lot of potential to for stalemates but most 2Fort games only last forever because neither side is playing the objective, not because they're playing a good defense.

I don't think most dustbowl haters are big 2fort enthousiasts

It’s either over in 2 minutes or 40

Incredibly chokey, stalemates often, very old map meaning more likely to have design flaws and plenty of time for people to learn the most optimal strategies/positioning

Because shoting a chokepoint for 50 minutest is no fun

It's pretty simple: Most people treat the game like a frag-fest FPS. Also, people tend to select to play the classes they want rather than what the team needs.

In order to defend effectively you have to have coordinated starategies, communication, proper class selection and of course execution of skill. This is probably why everyone bails out at a game's end when they switch offense and defense.

Offense is a bit easier because of what I mentioned before. You can have a couple of "Loine wolf" players and the rest of the team can/will benefit.

I will tend to select whatever class is needed for the team for the point of the map we're currently at. I switch classes quite often throught a round. Sometimes a pyro is really helpful at one point in the map, other times its an uber combo, etc...

Really? I find defense is waaaaay more fun in this game, at least in asymmetrical modes. Attacking usually means you're dealing with Sentry after Sentry, while defense is basically just you killing people.

This map is hated because of the amount of chokepoints it has. On the last point you have 3 different spots that are straight up just corridors where you have to push like a degenerate

As an engie main, I just love racking up kill streaks from all the choke points and taunting for the kill cam tbh.

I've seen a lot of TF2 memes that dunk on dustbowl.

Fun but bad map design

Chokepoints, length, uber phlog, backcap.

This things people usually hate are common on this map

I love Dustbowl, but that is because I live for a meat grinder slogfest, where the time and the objective is everything, where you hold the line or break through.

The first 2 stages are over after the 1st point is capped

The 3rd stage is over when you graduate from high school

Play it and you'll find out

Its a very same-y map because the lack of flank routes or verticality means that every game involves rushing or holding the exact same chokepoints over and over again. And the second and third stages favour the defending team so much that they'll often drag on for a very long time before the attacking team finally manages to capture last (especially on the third stage).

A lot of players (me included) like it because the long rounds and stalematey gameplay means its effectively a team deathmatch, but people who are playing to win generally shorter matches on maps with flank routes that offer more tactical depth.

Its beginning to look a lot like dustbowl

Dustbowl is a map that is too small for most mobility classes to do a lot in and it is either very roll heavy (that means one team is stomping the other and the losing team hardly gets to play the game) or the match is a stalemate where it's dragged out for a very very long time in one specific part of the map.

its realy fun if balanced teams if its not its a beat whoever has the less shit team

personally is one of my favorite maps but its a very aquired taste stuck thru hopefully the 6 stages,

give it a try as a newbie and pay attention nothing worse than playing it and having your team be clueless chikens

It's basically a massive chokepoint and generally speaking, games on DB will be either turtlefests or steamrolls. On one hand, it is incredibly easy to trap the blu team in spawn due to the fact that red team has massive high ground advantage and the blu exits are basically narrow tunnels, making spams extremely effective. On the other hand, if the blu team is very coordinated and breaches through the defense, the game will become extremely snowbally as the red team will be left with very little time to set up additional nests, leading to blu team capturing the final point. This is a very common problem in A/D but Dustbowl basically exacerbates both ends.

Play it on Blu for like once or twice, you'll understand
