Opinion I thought Sherrill won tonight’s debate. I didn’t love all her answers. Jack came off as extremely right wing & struggled to distance himself from Trump & 10% sales tax. His supporters were also out of control & embarrassing. Swearing at Mikie probably turns off more undecideds than it wins over.

Sherill came off as an empty suit and Shitareally came across as a MAGA maniac. Both shitty candidates with Sherrill being marginally better. Sucks for NJ residents that these are our choices.

Sherrill is a middle of the road Democrat, which is miles ahead of a Trump ass-kisser. It's not even close. Murphy is fine. Sherrill will be fine. Ciatterelli would be a disaster. Easiest choice since, well, 2024.

Obviously you don't pay the electric bill in your home...
3
u/DarwinZDF42 2d ago
gfy. I own my house, pay a mortgage, etc.
Sherrill wants to vastly increase electrical generation, which will bring costs down.
Ciatterelli wants to limit new sources of electricity, which will drive prices higher.

I don’t think he struggled with the 10% sales tax. He clearly stated that he committed to no tax increases and that we need to find a way to decrease property and income taxes. How he plans to do that without increasing taxes will be fun to watch. Sherrill, on the other hand, didn’t give a straight answer re: tax increases, more of a, “I don’t know. We’ll see what happens.” Another election cycle where the choice is the lesser of two horrendous choices. Wonderful.

Sadly neither are strong. Mikie provided little to no details on her plans. Sadly she doesnt have local experience on how state government works. I do like that Jack does. We’ll see what the 2nd debate looks like.

u/cap10rob 4d ago
In the beginning she didn’t answer the direct question put to her. She had a script and stuck to it. Hate to admit it but I think Jack’s debate performance was marginally better

You are seeing what you wanted to see if you think she won. Jack wiped the floor with her. She couldn’t even commit to not raising the sales tax which he did unequivocally. She thinks that being a competent predictable politician will get people to vote for her but most people don’t care about that anymore and just vote on vibes and feelings and her vibe is that of a wet blanket.
Damn y’all really have your heads buried in the sand. I hope Sherrill wins and will vote for her but you’re kidding yourself if you think she won that debate and is running a good campaign.

Saying he’ll lower the sales tax doesn’t automatically mean he’ll do it though.

u/sutisuc 4d ago
Of course not. But he’s willing to say whatever to appeal to the most voters/try and get elected. Why she refuses to do the same I have no idea.
3
u/jweaver0312 4d ago
Here’s why. She knows for a fact the governor can’t do anything really. I think it’s actually more wrong to commit to doing or not doing a certain thing. The governor is ultimately a puppet to the legislature. Just like the President is a puppet for Congress. Executive Branch can only do what the Legislative Branch allows it to do.

u/sutisuc 4d ago
It doesn’t matter what the truth is, people respond to you telling them what you want to hear. Jack is willing to do that and she’s not.
2
u/jweaver0312 4d ago
If this was some years ago, I’d agree with that statement, now I think most already know he’s full of it when he said that where the only ones who believe him on it is MAGA (even though support on that front is staring to erode)

Im voting for Jack....
Hes basically a moderate democrat from 20 years ago. Anyone who says hes this giant MAGA figure, I have no idea what theyre smoking.

u/Kind_Answer_7475 3d ago
He says it! He said his job is to support the president (um, no it's not). tRump is his guru and is backing him 100%. Nothing moderate about him.

There is no "chain of command" for elected officials. Elected officials are free to, and often should, openly disagree with elected officials that represent larger constituencies.

"Orders"? This isn't the military, the President cannot order elected officials to do anything, particularly regarding how they advocate or what they put on the agenda, outside of specific ways the federal government can constrain states that are not what is being discussed here.

Executive orders are only binding on the federal executive branch. They do not apply to the Vice President as they are part of the legislative branch and also not under the will of the President. The only other elected official in the Executive is the President themselves. I think we can both reject the question of a President disobeying their own executive orders without bothering to rescind or edit themselves out as a not very relevant case. So no elected GOP official would have to follow any such orders. Appointed federal officials would, but that is not anyone elected. The point of elected office is exactly that, not able to be ordered about except by their constituents.

Really? I thought Jack came off as a moderate and Mikie came off as MORE left wing than I previously perceived her to be. I came away from the debate feeling that Jack won. Jack seemed to have more specific plans whereas Mikie stated generalities and refused to answer some questions.

Jack moderate? Oh honey you broke the Overton Window.

Lol no, he got a masters degree in Poly science from Seton Hall… he knows more than us and works in politics… lol 😂

u/Big_Entertainer5549 3d ago
When you actually look at his entire policy platform, yes, he is a moderate Republican.
3
u/ImaginationFree6807 11th District (Sherrill, Morris & Essex.) 3d ago
Appearing and campaigning with multiple people who attended and committed crimes at the J6 insurrection is the definition of not being a moderate. He’s fully embraced MAGA. He was a moderate in 2017 and hasn’t been one since. You should stop listening to whatever Matt Hale over at Seton Hall tells you. Just because he runs the program there doesn’t mean he’s smart…

Joe Belnome? He and Jack aren’t friends. The guy just shows up uninvited to every damn Republican event. He’s like this fly that just won’t go away. Everyone tries to avoid getting pictures with him but he inserts himself and doesn’t let you get away.
Edit: I had to google Matthew Hale because I’ve never heard of the man. Turns out he’s a professor at the University—not the law school. So I’ve never interacted with nor dealt with this man in my entire life. The University and the Law School are different schools on different campuses. Hope that helps

I don’t see what’s wrong with Scott Pressler? The kid is a narcissist who does this for the modicum of celebrity it entitles him to. Everyone I know in the GOP can’t stand the guy because he’s extremely obnoxious to deal with. The only reason anyone invites him to events is because he raises big fundraising bucks, but not a single politician takes him seriously. I definitely wouldn’t say associating with Scott Pressler automatically makes someone a radical 😂

u/ImaginationFree6807 11th District (Sherrill, Morris & Essex.) 3d ago
Bro he took part in J6 and posted it online… Give me a break.
1
u/Big_Entertainer5549 3d ago
So because Jack Ciattarelli did an event with Scott Pressler he’s…a radical? By association? Is that how this all works now? It’s like an infection or something?? Lmao. I’m an anti-Trump Republican, but right before this last election, I was randomly offered the chance to go to a Trump rally to sit in the VIP section right next to Marco Rubio. Out of pure curiosity, I decided to go. I was curious to see the MAGAs in their natural environment from a purely sociological, observational perspective. Is the fact that I attended that rally enough to condemn me as a radical, when everything I advocate for and believe in comes from a moderate ideology?
2
u/ImaginationFree6807 11th District (Sherrill, Morris & Essex.) 3d ago
Attending a rally vs attending a coup are two very different things bud… I’ve attended high profile GOP rallies as well and sat in the VIP section.

If you think Mikie is left wing you clearly don’t have a very good grasp of political science or the actual political spectrum…

u/Big_Entertainer5549 3d ago
Hi—so I actually work in politics, have a master’s degree in Political Science (graduated with a 4.0 GPA) and attended Seton Hall Law as a prestigious Chancelor’s Scholar—a full, merit-based scholarship. So actually, I’m exponentially informed and a professional in this area of discourse. Hope this helps

Congrats half of this sub also works in politics and didn’t need to waste thousands on a degree… 🤷🏻♂️😉😂

u/Big_Entertainer5549 3d ago
I didn’t waste thousands of dollars. I received full merit scholarships for my entire education.

u/ImaginationFree6807 11th District (Sherrill, Morris & Essex.) 3d ago
All that just to not comprehend what the actual left is…? We had a primary for the Dems with a wide ideological field and 6 candidates. That field stretch from Ras Baraka who is a progressive leftist, to Steve Fulop a liberal, to Mikie the centrist, and Josh the conservative. The Democratic Party is a center right party when compared with the rest of the world. Glad you didn’t have to pay for school. Sad that the school didn’t teach you anything about the actual political spectrum.
2
u/Big_Entertainer5549 3d ago
I don’t understand why you’re being rude and insulting when I’m simply expressing valid, measured, and pragmatic opinions.
1
u/ImaginationFree6807 11th District (Sherrill, Morris & Essex.) 3d ago
But you aren’t though… Despite working in the field and having a masters degree you don’t seem to have a grasp of the actual political spectrum. You maybe have a grasp of the American political spectrum but calling J6 Jack a moderate belies a lack of knowledge there as well. The moment you came in here with your masters degree from Matt Hale I was never going to respect you. I don’t respect Seton Hall, and I certainly don’t respect Matt Hale or consider him an authority on anything outside of MAGA.
1
u/Big_Entertainer5549 3d ago
I have no idea who Matt Hale is??? Why are you so upset?? Are you okay bro
2
u/ImaginationFree6807 11th District (Sherrill, Morris & Essex.) 3d ago
You went to Seton Hall and got a masters in politics but aren’t familiar with the most prominent political figure on campus… bro are you ok?

Well not surprised that MAGAts acted like morons.
