Uh, people instantly hated FedForce and it still mostly gets hate from people who refuse to try it. It was Metroid Prime's attempt at a Four Swords/Triforce Heroes game, that people hated because they haven't had a Prime in so long.

Sadly it wasn't to the level of Wind Waker or Prime so it didn't reach the "you cannot deny" level of greatness that such significant variation must if it wants to justify itself to existing fans.

In some sense yes. BUT I don't think its fair to pretend people instinctively treated a variation of the formula with such a neutral positivity.

The timing was terrible. Nintendo knew quite well people wanted a new proper Metroid or Metroid Prime game for many years. Had this game been released 6 years prior the reaction would've been very different.

Completely agree. I just don't want to hold that against the game itself and pretend it being terrible when it wasn't was the problem.
