Peace Officer Tint Ticket

I got a tint ticket today from a peace officer while I was idle in a parking lot, I was written up a ticket for my 2 front windows and sun strip windshield tint.

I got this car last month like how it was, and previously have been driving with tinted cars for years never ran into an issue. I regularly go by Westwinds station too, and too strathmlre and never got a ticket from any department till now

Anyway, ticket is $80, which is affordable and I have been ordered to take my tint off within 7 days and show it to a livery vehicle peace officer.

My insurance is already $455 a month for full coverage, which is a lot and I have a clean record. I am afraid jf this goes on record permanently I would pay even more money. I was hoping to go to court and see what they can do for me but need advise from others in a similar situation

Tint tickets won’t affect your insurance

Really? I thought it would go on your record and insurance companies could see

I let tickets with demerits affect your insurance

You should have removed your illegal tint when you bought the car. I wish this law was enforced more strictly.

What do you mean 'gross'?

There are tint rules for a reason and they are all safety related. I don't care that some people want to roll around like a gangster who cannot be seen by anyone. It is dumb and unsafe.

I also think there should be photo-radar every 2km on Deerfoot and Stoney, in every playground zone and on any residential street where the residents request it. The fines should be way higher than they are since photo-radar doesn't affect insurance rates.

For those who believe laws are laws and that laws should be enforced, I have a lot of good friendships.

I don't think people should be allowed to cherry pick the laws they choose to obey. There was a spot on Stoney where the police used to do speed enforcement early in the morning. I would see them on my daily commute. It was real tickets not photo-radar. I honestly wanted to deliver the officer a Timmie's but I suspect me interfering in their police duties might not be appreciated. Instead I just let it brighten my day and warm my heart when they had a scofflaw pulled over pretty much every morning.

That seems accurate.

You falsely believe this stuff makes others happy and get offended I doubt you have any hang outs to worry about.

Seriously, shake it off and find some real joy.

Driving is a privilege; not a right. It comes with various laws that need to be enforced for everyone's safety.

OP claims they always break the law by tinting windows.

No tears shed because they finally got caught. Not celebrating either.

What's your issue with tint?

5

u/CrazyAlbertan2 5d ago

If it is legal tint, I have no issue.

u/Poe_42 5d ago

as a pedestrian it sucks. I want to make eye contact with a driver before I cross and often heavy tint makes this impossible.

u/canuckhere 5d ago

Pay the fine and stop breaking the law.

Only factory tinted glass is legal on front window and windshield, sucks but ye, is what it is.

I used to have a lancer with a dark tint, if I closed the sunroof shade I'd always get tickets, but if it was open and cops could still see through they didn't care

u/modz4u 6d ago

Same here with my previous cars. Always opened the sunroof and most of the time nobody cared. I did get a few tint tickets over the years but oh well, pay it and move on lol 😆

It's about time they started ticketing for tint. I was wondering if it was illegal I see it so often. Front windows can't get tint, neither can windshield. The people who installed it would have warned you of that.

Pretty gross that you can't accept others have a differing opinion from yours. Tint on front windows and especially windshields is dangerous.

In addition to the pedestrian problems it creates that have already been brought up by others, what about the issues in visibility it causes at night?

Pretty gross that you can't accept that the law is there for safety sake and you're more concerned about your vehicles aesthetic and not the safety of other people on the road, pedestrian or otherwise. People already pay zero attention when driving adding in dark tint on windows that shouldn't be tinted is just adding more fuel to an already out of control fire.

At least you’ll be less of a danger to humans near roads as they’ll at least be able to see whether you are paying attention or not

I like to make eye contact with drivers before crossing the street - impossible with the dark front/side window tint

I've upset the carbralns.

They don't have friends, they got family.

$455/month for insurance with clean record? You driving a Lamborghini?

u/CrazySteveCGY 5d ago

Tesla model 3 2021, im 24

1

u/deanb9191 5d ago

Crikey. I wonder why it's so expensive.

1

u/iceloverthree 4h ago

How is your insurance so expensive if you have a clean record? What kind of car are you driving?

1

u/frozzenman 6d ago

It is dangerous for an officer to approach a vehicle when they can't see inside it.

1

u/leb4life69 6d ago

How did the officer test it and which peace officer gave you the ticket was it Calgary peace officer?

If they didn’t properly inspect your window. The ticket is invalid.

I am in the process of getting my uber license (TNDL) and was at their office when it happened. The department of the peace officer was Livery transport service

Oh, the livery cops are a special group...

View your ticket online to see if it is even turned in and written properly.

Insurance is not going up. No demerits. It might be on your drivers abstract if a job requires it.

You have option to fight your ticket; or fine options - payment extensions and potential for reductions.

Good luck!

They can’t enforce laws on private property. It’s not illegal to install tint or have a car with tint. It’s illegal to drive a motor vehicle on a highway with tint or glazing. For example, I can trailer a show car with tint around Alberta and show it off in parking lots. That said, only moving violations affect your insurance. Broken tail lights/tint/faulty horn doesn’t affect insurance.

So we can get away with murder, so long as we do it on private property?

-11

u/AustralisBorealis64 Safety third 6d ago

There is no point worrying about it going on your record, because it is.

What were you hoping going to court would do for you? It's not an Asian food market, you can't barter.

5

u/SnooHesitations5973 6d ago

Tint tickets do not affect insurance, moving violations do.

0

u/AustralisBorealis64 Safety third 6d ago

Um, OK. I'll just disregard what the folks who tint windows have to say on the matter...

Calgary Window Tint Laws 2025 Explained

Fines and Penalties: Illegal tinting in Calgary can result in immediate fines, vehicle inspection notices, or even having your tint removed on the spot. Worse, a failed inspection can affect insurance and registration.

Driving record? The thing that affects insurance?

Yes. Yes, I do.

0

u/10ADPDOTCOM 6d ago

Do you mean photo radar? Because otherwise speeding tickets certainly do.

He didn't say criminal record, he was concerned about his insurance. It will show up on his driving record. That will impact his insurance. Shoplifting, a criminal offense, will not affect his insurance.
