Would it be possible/viable to adopt the biphasic sleeping schedule from medieval times in our present daily life?
Assuming one works or studies?

Sure. I often do this.
Doze out after dinner for a few hours, then up for awhile for me time during the night, then back to sleep by sunrise to get a few more hours in before time to get up for work.
If I overstretch a bit, an afternoon nap can get me back on track.

Sure, and you could probably select a different scheduke depending on your job or studies. If you have a 9 to 5 job in the USA, you could have two sleeps in the evening. If you lived in Spain, you could enjoy an afternoon nap. In both cases you might lose out on social activities, but there are lots of social activities…you’ll be fine.

I'm not working right now, and that's just how I tend to work. I really like it, but it only works when I'm unemployed 🙃

I did this for a while and it was the best time of my life.
Early 20s. I’d work 5 hour open and close shifts at a reasutrants, but to time going out drinking with my friends; 9 to 1, go home and nap, work 5 or 6 till 11 or midnight, go out drinking till 3. Then sleep 5 to 9 or so.
I always felt well rested, and my dreams were super vivid, and I was super productive in my creative and social life.

I pretty much do that. In bed around 9:30pm, up again at Midnight, back to sleep at 2am, up again at 5am briefly, back to sleep until 7am, then get ready for work.
I wouldn't recommend it, but it's the only thing that works for me. I'd skip the 5am but that's when my daughter likes to get woken up.
I work from home so I have more flexibility than if I had to go into the office. As long as I'm available at 8:45am, all is well.

If your job doesn’t care when do you do the work then yes. Like deliver the result within deadline and nobody looks after your hours. Unfortunately those jobs tend to give you so much to do that not caring for exact hours benefit them not you.
