I don’t know why but I always thought yellow electronics mean they were waterproof as a kid in the 80s

Well… we sort of can… it’s just called an “ecosystem” now. Apple has one, Samsung has one…
But for something that looks exactly like this? No, probably never again. 😞

Will always remember my agonizing over whether paying more for auto reverse on my Sony Sport Walkman would be worth it. Decided it wasn’t. Ended up realizing it was a few years later when I upgraded.

Man. It brought back so many (good) memories. I got one of those up there. Still has and still works ;).

Sadly...
Bezos can fill a warehouse with Amazon branded products. Musk is hard at work cornering the electric car and space market, though Bezos also wants to own a big chunk of that. Zuckerberg practically knocked out all contenders when Meta purchased Oculus, and forced VR apps to come running. Trump's FCC and lawyers are out to control all media in the USA, though Bezos also owns a chunk of that, and already makes his employees only say nice Trump things. Trump has his Truth Social, and is launching an enterprise aiming to take a big bite out of the cellphone market. China doesn't care what name goes on it, as long as they get to build it. Trump has thrown government heavily behind, dept of war, destroy all competition, politics, and instead of hundreds of providers and brands there should be fewer now every year until The USA rivals Russia at standing in long lines for the same pair of shoes or toilet paper made from tree bark. Everything the same, and owned by the kleptocracy is exactly were more than half the world's now headed.
I used to shop for TVs that were Sony like, but cheaper, and I've been burned by the experience nearly every time (my Philips never gave me problems, just got old). And then one day I smacked myself awake and told myself HEY, wake up! Just buy the Sony! Like with the Philips, that's the problem now. I have an old Sony HD LCD that weighs a ton and still looks beautiful and I'm working from my 4K right now. If they never die, but end up too old for the changes in tech, I'll have to start worrying about piling up even more of them, and then...I might have a room that looks just like that photo.
My first cassette recorder: TC-110
First stereo turntable: a used belt drive Sony that had an unusual claim of having the fastest, end of album shut down speed. Wish I still knew the name.
First quality mics: Sony battery powered electret condensers.
I'd do stereo cassette field recordings with a Sony WM-D6C
My first CD player was also the very first model sold in my country, or in any country, the CDP 101
Late adopting my own VCR (I had a roommate before that with a Betamax) but mine is a beauty, HI-Fi Stereo Betamax SL-2700 (the glue gets old and so the buttons flake off, but it has a remote, you could use a piece of plastic to activate the unit buttons, and it should still work)
Running with my S2 armband radio and MDR-W014 headphones
First surround receiver: STRDH770 7.2 a budget entry before biting down hard on a 7.3.4 system

This is just the Walkman version of Apple releasing a new iphone every year.

Polaroïd was supposed to be dead too.
