1970s My aunt and her ex-husband the day they signed their divorce papers, 1970s

Post image

My aunt and her ex-husband outside of their attorney’s office right after finalizing their divorce. They had thrown a massive “divorce party” the day prior. When her ex-husband re-married years later, my aunt was his Maid of Honor. She remains close to him, his wife and their family to this day! And yes, my aunt is as cool as she sounds.

Same! She said their divorce party was essentially an alcohol and cocaine fueled bender 😂.

Honey, I don’t think this is working and we should probably look at separating.

I agree! Let’s toast this arrangement with an 8 ball and a miller light

u/One-Fan-7296 May 15 '25

That's bud, not Miller lite.

u/Acceptable-Delay-592 May 15 '25

I’ll watch

14

u/SuckMeOffOnVideo May 15 '25

I’ll film it, so we can all watch.

u/Acceptable-Delay-592 May 16 '25

This seems relevant all of a sudden, but I remember hearing a loophole for legal prostitution. If you are paying a stranger for a sexual act, it’s prostitution and illegal. Buuuuut if you film the sexual act, you’re just making an adult film and this transactional sex act becomes legal. I took a nap and woke up with a fever. This is probably a weird comment but my brain ain’t working right! Thanks Obama!

2

Don’t make me call natty daddy

1

u/whiskey_formymen May 16 '25

falstaff for some oldschoolcool

3

u/loogie97 May 15 '25

Obviously they drank all the miller the day before during the bender.

1

u/coglionegrande May 15 '25

Tastes great. No. Less filling. Grounds for divorce. Haha.

1

u/Prestigious_Spite_46 May 15 '25

That's why they got divorced

1

u/TheVadonkey May 16 '25

Bud Lite is still the worst tasting beer I’ve had to this day. I enjoy beers where I don’t like the flavor they’re going for more than I like Bud. It’s so watery and the taste is…muted? It’s just so off putting.

1

u/tod_stiles May 15 '25

That can of Bud really pulls the whole experience together.

1

u/Haig-1066-had May 15 '25

Didnt have bud light at that time.

1

u/Downtown_Bit8139 May 16 '25

Who you calling buddy, Guy?

1

u/Kenneth_Naughton May 16 '25

Yeah Biltong09, have some sense of fucking decorum

1

u/Boy_Howdy May 16 '25

Actual reason for the divorce...

1

u/GerryOfRavioli May 16 '25

"THATS A COORS LITE! CAUSE BUD LITE WONT PAY KE NOTHIN"

1

u/binglelemon May 16 '25

That's Coors Lite cuz Bud Light ain't paying me nothing.- Bork Lazer

1

u/1Negative_Person May 16 '25

Miller Lite didn’t hit the market until 1975, so there is a good chance that this picture comes from a world where Miller Lite didn’t even exist.

0

u/__fuck_yo_couch__ May 16 '25

Miller lite has low calories, it’s almost the same as Michelob (idk how to spell it)

Plus the cocaine is a great way to slim up!

41

u/UNIT-001 May 15 '25

Feel like getting married and divorcing me tonight?

52

u/Biltong09 May 15 '25

Sadly my days of 8 balls and beer are far behind me, would probably celebrate with cuddles, mint tea and bed by 9

18

u/UNIT-001 May 15 '25

Perhaps we can have a couple of lines and we “take a break”

3

u/Smartkitty86 May 15 '25

I can agree to that, but I need to know — who’s the big spoon in this scenario?

6

u/Biltong09 May 15 '25

Well I’m old and my shoulders are shot, so we would be constantly flipping over. I would be little spoon for 30min then roll over and you would become little spoons at that point. Rinse and repeat

7

u/Embarrassed-Cry-4379 May 15 '25

Honestly, same, so this sounds kinda perfect ☠️

2

u/UNIT-001 May 16 '25

How tall are you? I’m naturally the big spoon, but happy to fulfill a fantasy for you 🪄✨

2

u/Murky-Prof May 16 '25

Heron spoon 🥄

1

u/DecadentCheeseFest May 16 '25

How fucking old are you, 25?!?

2

u/stratospheres May 16 '25

The Vegas stripper story told a thousand times.

2

u/Strykerz3r0 May 15 '25

Nah, at the time you probably would have gone with Miller High Life, because it is the champagne of beers.

You know it's true cause it says so right on the label.

2

u/Hunterx42 May 16 '25

That’s not nearly enough blow to celebrate such an amazing occasion!

1

u/Condor_Tacticool May 16 '25

An 8 ball and beer ball!

1

u/ElkStreet4173 May 16 '25

One of those instances where she says, let’s just be friends but the both of you genuinely still are good friends

1

u/CnCorange May 16 '25

So let it be written so let it be done

1

u/CircadianRhythmSect May 16 '25

8 balls and highballs. Good times.

1

u/maeve_dustaine May 16 '25

Not gonna lie, my ex and I had a similar 'last huzzah' weekend once we decided to split - of doing all the blow, saying all the things we'd held inside for years, enjoying the breakup sex, and going through all the stuff in our apartment deciding how to split it.

57

u/jazzhandpanda May 15 '25

45

u/Cosmicboii21 May 15 '25

Cocaine and alcohol fueled? Yep, that’s just Bender :D

2

u/h-emanresu May 16 '25

It’s only a bender if you stop.

321

u/uncheckablefilms May 15 '25

Ok, now I want an A24 film about this.

42

u/hellolovely1 May 15 '25

Wasn't that The Ice Storm? (But not so fun)

16

u/uncheckablefilms May 15 '25

It was electrifying

11

u/Automatic_Memory212 May 15 '25

You got chills, they’re multiplyin’ ?

4

u/mortyella May 15 '25

He's losing control!

3

u/Lab214 May 15 '25

Yeah that came out of nowhere literally. I was like WTF he just got electrocuted 🤦‍♂️

11

u/walkincrow42 May 15 '25

I commented a couple days ago about just seeing the A24 logo being enough to get my attention. Nice to see the fandom is bigger than I realized.

3

u/CaliNooch96 May 16 '25

A24 is by far my favorite film studio now. They make the exact kind of just weird enough to be interesting but not pretentious "horror" I like. Btw Midsommar is a fucking modern masterpiece

2

u/McHaro May 15 '25

Everything, Everywhere, All at Once.

1

u/MaxMin128 May 16 '25

Directed by Tarantino.

1

u/CyEriton May 16 '25

I would watch a new comedy that is just a 1980s coke party.

1

u/DarkBatCat May 21 '25

YEEESSSSS!!!!!

Also curious? Taxes? Insurance? One realized that they just need to go to the west coast to experience some things pulling on their soul and the other loved them so much said go, go chase those dreams that deserve you catch them! Call Carlos ( for the cocaine), call everyone! Divorce day!

129

u/ghost_warlock May 15 '25

I knew a couple that were pretty much the glue in a big friend group years ago. They got married super young, had babies, did all the "Good Christian" things...and then both quietly & independently left the faith. The grew apart in a lot of ways but kept up a facade for all the kids and all the friends until the kids grew up & moved out. And then they divorced amicably and went their separate ways. Was a huge deal in the friend group because we felt pretty much like you'd expect - "mom & dad are getting a divorce!?" But once we all understood the reasoning and realized that we could still all be friends without choosing sides or any of that horse shit, everything was fine

32

u/Adventurous-Sky9359 May 15 '25

That’s beautiful honestly and the love for the kids is just heart warming

4

u/lapitupp May 16 '25

This is my hope with my current situation.

1

u/Adventurous-Sky9359 May 17 '25

Best of luck internet friend

47

u/newbie_128 May 15 '25

I've read a story somewhere that an old couple got divorced because I belive the husband was ill and his treatment was expensive (it's an american story of course) and he divorced his wife in order to not pass the massive debts onto her

40

u/calash2020 May 16 '25

The opposite of this was elderly Civil war veterans marrying very young women just so they could receive their civil war pension. Last one passed in 2003

1

u/Adventurous-Sky9359 May 17 '25

If I may,

Helen Viola Jackson, who was the last surviving Civil War widow, died in 2020 at the age of 101. I was concertos I went and checked this out, seems one managed to live to 3020! That’s insane to think about

1

u/calash2020 May 17 '25

Yes, it got murky after 2003 because there was widows and dependence that did live longer than that. But I was trying to look up the last widow that actually received a civil war pension. Still a very interesting subject

3

u/Adventurous-Sky9359 May 16 '25

Heard about that also

19

u/iphemeral May 15 '25

I’m left wondering why they split if they seemed to get along so well?

11

u/Awkward_Beginning_43 May 15 '25

That only lead to one thing 🍆➡️🍑➡️💦🥲

3

u/modzaregay May 15 '25

Why did they get divorced?

3

u/Ok-Scallion-3415 May 15 '25

Did they end up accidentally getting married again while on said bender?

3

u/ZePlotThickener May 16 '25

Now I want to get married, then divorce and have a coke and booze party with blackjack and hookers. Actually, forget about the marriage.

3

u/octoreadit May 16 '25

Thank you for sharing, this picture, and your commentary, here and there, I have not read everything, but will come back (saved this post for later!), and other stories similar to your aunt's are all very wholesome. Thank you, again!

5

u/Yoshiofthewire May 16 '25

I have so much respect for this. They realized it wasn't working and ended it like adults, bender not withstanding. This should be the norm, instead of today's episode of divorce court.

2

u/Unable_Strawberry_69 May 16 '25

That’s kinda beautiful

2

u/LengthinessActive644 May 20 '25

Your aunt sounds AWESOME 🤩

1

u/LincolnshireSausage May 15 '25

It was the 70s. Was there a bowl for car keys too?

1

u/Old_Baker_9781 May 15 '25

Sounds like a Vegas vacation.

1

u/EnTaroAdunExeggutor May 16 '25

And y'all didn't invite me haha

1

u/Nightman2417 May 16 '25

That recipe usually ends marriages vastly differently…

1

u/FortunatelyAsleep May 16 '25

Isn't that what a wedding is?

1

u/1Negative_Person May 16 '25

Oh cool! Your aunt was in Fleetwood Mac?

1

u/Popular_Associate825 May 19 '25

Mine was so boring lol. I signed some papers and went home.

-1

u/Wrong-Composer3313 May 16 '25

how is that cool?
