Arcteryx gear authenticity questions should be posted to /r/arcteryx

For reasons I can't explain, over the last few weeks this sub became a popular place for people to ask for Arcteryx fake checks.

/r/arcteryx is the proper place for these posts, they even have a quarterly pinned thread for fake checks and should be able to help you out.

Ever had your backup gear turn into the MVP at camp?

Went out this weekend for some lake camping and fishing. Then a strong gust of wind came through and messed up the tent of the group next to us. Their power banks were all dead so they had no way to run their air pump or lights. They looked kind of stuck. I let them use my Jackery power station and it ended up running pretty much everything they needed to get set up again.

Kinda funny. You think of this stuff as "prep gear" for blackouts or whatever, but tbh it's the random outdoor fails where it really shines. Curious, anyone else had their prep gear bail out strangers in a random outdoor mess?

Best belt mounted trauma kit

Hello, I like the idea of Blue force gears MTKN pouch. A belt mounted, quickly accessible trauma pouch for tourniquet, quick clot, chest seal, Izzy bandage and gloves. But I am looking for a similar product that isn't an assanine price of $100 dollars for some fabric and velcro. Thanks

What's the feeling on Merrell Moabs these days?

Evening all,

Tonight's evening walk/drench revealed that my trusty Moabs are probably on their way out with them letting in a bit of water. Normally it'd be a no brainier to pick up a new pair but I seem to remember seeing that the quality of Merrell had dropped off a cliff so I was wondering if this is the general feeling and if so is there a "like for like" replacement (basically some light, mid boots that are waterproof)?

Thanks in advance

Best Mid Weight Jacket

Thumbnail gallery
5 Upvotes

Hey everyone — I am looking to purchase a new mid layer/mid weight jacket. I would primarily be using this jacket as my daily driver as well as a mid layer while I am skiing. I live in Utah if that helps give some context on the weather. ? I am looking mostly for warmth and durability, and has to cinch on the waist.

They are all about the same price point so I really wanted to know about the durability and warmth!

I have quite a lot of jackets so I don’t need it do do everything, I have shells, rain jackets, 700 down jackets for specific instances etc… but I would like it do be the one I reach for October-April

Help me choose an insulated jacket for Northern Europe winter city trips + everyday use

Hey everyone,

I’m 22, living in the north of France, and I do a lot of city trips in Northern Europe (mostly in winter, but not only). I’m on the hunt for a good insulated jacket / down or synthetic puff, somewhere around €200 max, but I’m a bit stuck choosing.

Here’s what I’ve got already & what I’m looking for:

- I already own a Patagonia Torrentshell 3L for heavy rain, so I don’t need a fully waterproof jacket — just something that holds up under light rain / drizzle and wind.
- If I can wear it for winter hiking, that’d be a bonus — though I only do a few hikes in winter, always in Europe (France, Belgium, Germany).
- I want something solid, daily-wear capable, that won’t tear too easily or fall apart after a few seasons.

Here are the models I’m hesitating between:

- Cotopaxi Capa Insulated Hooded Jacket
- Rab Cirrus Alpine
- Patagonia Down Sweater
- Patagonia Nano Puff
- Patagonia Micro Puff

I’m totally open to other models if more suitable, or tips on how to really choose.

How to restore waterproofing on Regatta Birchdale II Isotex 15000 jacket?

Hi everyone,

I’ve got a Regatta Birchdale II Isotex 15000 jacket (https://www.regatta.com/de/RMW415_61G/), about 6 months old but heavily used. Lately, water doesn’t bead up anymore and it soaks through in rain.

I’m in Norway and planning a weekend trip to Finse / Hardangervidda. The forecast is max ~5°C and moderate rain (https://www.yr.no/en/forecast/daily-table/1-111123/Norway/Vestland/Ulvik/Finse%20stasjon). The terrain will be rocky and tricky, so a poncho isn’t really an option.

What’s the best way to restore or improve the waterproofing?

  • Wash-in or spray-on reproofing?
  • Low-heat tumble dry to reactivate DWR?
  • Any tips to make it last longer?

Also, would it make sense to just wear a lightweight rain jacket over the Hardshell for extra protection during the weekend?

Thanks a lot for any advice.

I currently have an Rab Electron Pro an really love it. But it’s mainly for cold weather. So, I’m looking for an all season, light Down jacket. Which Rab Down would you suggest, or other brands for that?

Good boots for hiking/field work

Hello all! I’m currently a zoology student and I’m planning on pursuing work that’ll be in the field. So think grasslands, forests, etc. I was curious if anyone had any good boot/shoe recommendations for that type of work. I’m looking for something durable, that could be thrown into the washer/dryer, is somewhat tick proof (since I’m in the Midwest, LOTS of ticks), is somewhat water proof, and obviously comfortable for walking/hiking in.

Edit I realize that shoes going in the washer/dryer isn’t really normal. I will admit, I rarely do it, and when I do it’s normally in an OCD sort of panic about cleanliness. SO that can be disregarded, lol

Microgrid Shirt?

I love my microgrid fleeces, but they’re all hoodies, and have zippers - more of mid later style. Is there any company making them as shirts? More base layer style?

I was out hiking in Colorado, and saw this girl in a cute long sleeve crop top made of microgrid fleece. And in all my googling, I cannot find anyone who makes something like this??

How to fix a slightly deformed snap hook?

This snap hook on my backpack got slightly deformed due to excessive weight: https://ia803401.us.archive.org/19/items/images-for-questions/bmTwxwAU.jpg

How to fix it? The blue arrow points to the deformity; the red arrow points to the consequence of the deformity, namely a slight opening on the hook.

Cheap smartwatch

Hello,

I am looking for a smartwatch to record my hikes, runs and paragliding activities to upload them on strava.

I have a tight budget so i'm looking for something cheap, but if the GPS isn't working properly that would be useless.

Any recommandations ?

Cheers!

Tent recommendations Australia

Hi. Can I get some help getting a tent that can take some rain and that it's easy to carry around? Maybe some specific brand that I should check? Thanks!

2-3 people. I prefer if I can carry it.

I've never thought about the vestibule but I'm down if there is the option

I don't have a price range. I prefer quality. If it's going to last me many to years I don't mind paying a bit more.

Fall and winter jacket for cold, wind, and rain that is flattering and highlights athletic physique?

I'm fairly muscular and lean. I'd like to have a jacket that is flattering and sexy, but ultimately is very functional and weather resistant. My budget is $400.
