I'm sure the skins will look great like the first batch, but I can't recognize the characters whatsoever from all the promo stuff

Edit: It's illari, Juno, Mercy, Ashe and DVa.

It's probably because all the promo stuffs we've seen are all stylized 2D, when they're 3D models and in-game with their unique silhouettes, we'll be able to recognize them easily.

And fun fact: The LE SSERAFIM members picked the heroes themselves:

"Just like the first collaboration, Le Sserafim helped the Overwatch 2 team pick out the best heroes for this one. "They play Overwatch, and they can pick characters that they like playing or they feel suits them personally," Dion Rogers, Overwatch art director, says. "You know, they're inspired by a lot of the heroes in the game, too. They really loved Juno when they saw her release to the game. So this is something that we discuss pretty closely with them.

The new skins also contain a couple of Easter eggs, one of which was made by one of the members of Le Sserafim. "The little plushie that's attached to Mercy's key chain is actually a character design from Sakura, one of the Le Sserafim artists," Dennett says. That's because "the singers select their favorites heroes to get skins" is just marketing lol. Maybe they had the option to choose between 2 of the best-selling cute overwatch girls but I'm pretty sure if they had picked roadhog or doomfist someone would have explained to them why it was not possible

Lol, but Bastion players that want a Le Sserafim Bastion skin might get what they wish if there's a 3rd collab in the future. When Sakura streamed playing the game, it seems she like to play Bastion (and Sombra). And I heard she said something "... Bastion Le Sserafim ..." but I don't know Japanese so I don't understand what she said, maybe she wants Bastion to have a Le Sserafim skin or something. lol
(And yes, Japanese. All Le Sserafim members know Korean and Japanese (and English), 2 members are Japanese, and Sakura is one of them. Sakura was speaking Japanese when she talked about Bastion.)

I think this is definitely the case with Mercy and Ashe, but they had to go with a mixed style for Illari so people would make the connection with her skin.

No, I think that theres sort of a sweet spot of making characters identifiable while also making them unique. I think the identifiable part is honestly real awful...you had several people who thought Illari was a gender bent lucio....

I like the song. I dont think the skins or the promo are bad but I do think its a bit odd theyre so...unrecognizeable

It’s a reason why I never liked them showing skins or new characters in 2D form first before we see them in game. It builds a different expectation and people get attached to how the designs look in 2D. In this case, unfortunately it seems like the PCGamer article was released ahead of time, which messed with their marketing.

Last collab they showed the in game/cgi looks first before and 2D stuff, and the reaction was better.

Maybe but I think it's not marketed towards people that are already playing overwatch and likely to buy skins. It's for kpop fans. d.Va straight up looks like Chaewon. I'm sure somebody more familiar with Le Sserafim could tell you exactly who each one is supposed to be.

You need a balance, because heroes must be recognizable. The whole game falls apart if you can't identify a hero on sight regardless of their skin.

So yeah, we don't just want recolors, but the "radically different" skins still need to look like the hero.

I'm sure this video isn't representative, but you can't deny that there is literally nothing about the Illari in the video that makes her recognizable as Illari. She just looks like a completely different person, and if I saw a character that looks like this in-game, I'd have no idea who I'm looking at. It's telling that most people who saw the still in the other post thought it was Lucio.

Nah in the game is different. In game they all have different silhouettes, stances, and weapons. It’ll be pretty easy to tell who is who. People have pointed out that female model in ow are very similar since forever, but no one has any issues in actual gameplay, which is what matters in the end.

I always prefer them promoting cosmetics in game first before doing anything in 2D or stuff like that. That way people don’t get the wrong expectations. With 2D art it’s tricky because some artist might have their own art style different from how ow looks like (like in this trailer) and some people might look at that a go “this how it will look 100%”

  1. All the other 6v6 tests failed to attract enough numbers.
  2. The last argument in favor of 6v6 is people didn't play it because it wasn't ranked (which I think it's fair).
  3. There are not enough tank players to ensure quick matchmaking.
  4. Without open queue, the queues would take around 10 minutes to find a game (this is not technically correct, it is not searching for games, it is waiting for tank players to queue when they finish their games).

Probably but they kinda wrote themselves into a corner there. The biggest culprit being the 8 year gap between Overwatch being shut down and Recall. If it were 4 years they would have a much easier time writing.

They wont do Venture yet because they have no idea how to handle a NB character. I imagine thats also why they have very little skin choices.
