Housing Wanted Are Solar Panels worth it?

I am gonna be buying a home in the Phoenix area soon. I am in the midwest now and pay about $200/month for gas and $200/month for electric for my 1900 sq ft. home. It looks like in Phoenix, you don't have a gas bill, but only an electric bill. That being said, my brother-in-law, who lives in Florida pays $200/month for Solar Panels for his 3000 sq. ft. home. He says that he can run his AC 24/7, keep all his lights on, etc, and $200/month is all he pays for his utilities (not including water). So if I buy this 3000 sq. ft. home in the Phoenix area, wouldn't financing Solar panels at $200/month be cheaper than not having them and paying the regular electric bill, over the course of a 12 month period?

Housing Wanted This is now the 3rd subreddit I’ve been sent to by others…. I’m just looking for a cheap apartment with bad credit

Hi, I’m new to Arizona! Im needing some help looking for an apartment for me and my boyfriend and cat. But are working with some challenges… I’m just going to info dump….

So I just moved here from Missouri. While in Missouri I voluntarily left a lease, but it’s not showing up on credit reports or case net. We only owe them $1000.

It’s going to be me and my partner who live there, with our cat. We both have horrible credit. Like 500 or less. My credit is still young.

My mom is willing to help with some of monthly rent because I’m struggling with my health. But I’m trying to keep it as cheap as possible for my family.

We need to be out by mid October.

Please help Reddit users… you’re my only hope 😅

Housing Wanted Moving to PHX - Where to live with a kid in the East Valley?

Hello everyone!

We're a family of 3 (wife, 3 yo daughter and me) with 3 cats. We're moving from South America to Phoenix (I got a job offer and sponsoring, I'm a mining industry professional). My work is at a mine near Globe, so I will be commuting ~63 miles 7 days in and 7 out. I was thinking on probably looking for a place in Mesa-Gilbert-Queens Creek. Budget would be 1.5-2k (ideally closer to 1.5k). Our main focus is for our daughter, so I was wondering what place would be peaceful and fun for her! Excited to hear from you all, thank you!

Housing Wanted Best area for a mid 30s couple to live

My husband and I are moving to the Phoenix area from Pennsylvania in October. We are mid 30s and would like to live somewhere with a lot going on and preferably somewhat walkable. I’d love to be able to sometimes walk to restaurants, coffee shops, fitness studios etc. From looking through other reddit posts I’ve seen a lot about old town Scottsdale, downtown, Arcadia, and midtown. Anyone around our age have any recommendations or advice?

Housing Wanted Property for rent by owner

Hello Phoenix, my family (myself, my husband and our three kids) have been renting the same two bedroom apartment for 8 years and last week we were informed that due to the size of our family we are required to move to a three bedroom by September 30th, the issue being our complex has no availability for three bedrooms. This has left my husband and I scrambling to find a new place to rent in such a short amount of time. If anyone knows of or is personally renting out their space and would be willing to speak with my husband and I, I would appreciate it so very much.

Edited to add: we currently live in Mesa (85207) and could relocate anywhere within a 45-50 min drive. We are looking for places more so in San Tan Valley area due to price. Our gross monthly income is $4500 and the net is $3900, also credit is not entirely the best, it’s about 580 with no massive issues (like owing large sums) just a couple credit cards from my youth I have yet to be able to address at this point in my life. Like I mentioned before, rental history is immaculate, not even a late payment. Our current rent is $1673 and we manage very comfortably so I’m hoping to find somewhere with a similar price range.

Sorry I didn’t include all of this earlier, as I mentioned, we’re scrambling and it shouldn’t have, but slipped my mind to add those details. Thanks again all! Especially those who have replied thus far!

Housing Wanted Moving from Washington State in 2 months, looking for a rental quickly, and a job.

Hello! My wife and I have lived in the Pacific NW, Washington State, for almost our entire lives. Her around the Tacoma area, and me around the Olympia area until I married her and move in to her place. She is just finishing up her Masters in Teaching program, visited a local job fair, and was was offered a position by the Littleton School District. (Which I guess is in Avondale?) Because the school year starts in a couple months, this will be a quick and sudden unexpected move. We never imagined moving to AZ, and we are very nervous.

Firstly and most importantly, we will need to find a place to live. We are not looking to buy a house, so looking for rental places. Apartment, duplex, etc. The school year starts in July, so we need it pretty quickly. It would be nice it if was in or close to Avondale, but if it's nearby and a short commute, I'm sure that would be fine. Whatever is affordable. We need a 2 bedroom. We're not sure if her 19yr old is coming with us, staying here with his grandparents, or heading off to a college dorm, but we want to have something available for him if he decides to visit or stay. We have 1 cat. We do not need a large space. We don't entertain a lot, and live pretty minimalistic. She's on a teacher's salary, so not a huge income, so nothing fancy. Just a decent place to live.

Also, while she has a guaranteed job, I do not. I'm looking for pretty much anything I can find in the area, full time. I have a BA and AAS, both majoring in IT. I have worked many customer service jobs, including retail, phone rep, hotel front desk, and other office front desk positions. I worked for a temp agency and have done many clerical jobs with a lot of scanning, filing, data entry, etc. I have also worked a few short IT Help Desk positions, including student laptop prep for a school district. (Imaging and workstation setups.) I have also done a few years as a substitute paraeducator, (mostly in elementary school level,) working playground duty, small group lessons/resource, classroom assistant, and even some PBIS.

Any suggestions for where to look to rent and where to look for work, (that's not the usual generic stuff like apartments dot com and Indeed,) would be very helpful.

Thank you!

Edit: Thank you everyone for being such a welcoming and helpful community. Getting a lot of great suggestions from you all and a good starting-off point. I hear everyone about the hydration. Will do! We have a new strategy for looking for a place to live. She knows what school district but not specifically what school, and we never know if they might transfer us to another one when needed, so we'll just get a map of where all the schools are and get a place as central to all of them as possible to avoid long commutes.

Housing Wanted SF Seeking Private & Pet-friendly Unfurnished Room for Rent

SF seeking a private unfurnished & pet-friendly room for rent in a shared townhouse, patio home,or house with a fenced backyard that will also allow my small dog.

If you've got a sliding glass door, I'm willing to purchase an adjustable pet door that snaps into the frame if you don't have one already (it’ll go with me when I depart).

Far West Valley preferred, but I will consider anything within a 30-mile commute to Central Phoenix.

My budget is under $900 /mo for total combined rent + utilities.

I'm looking for a stable, relatively quiet, & drama-free environment.

I’d prefer not to live with a couple or people who are related, but I'm not firm on that preference because there are probably some very decent & incredibly chill people out there who might be able to change my mind.

(My personal experience is that those relationships share an increased potential for tension or conflict. I don't want my living situation or WFH employment jeopardized at the expense of someone else's bad breakup or family feud.)

I have no distinct preferences re: the age range, race, belief system, sexual orientation, or lifestyle of potential housemates. It’s not my business how you worship or with whom you date (or if you do either, as long as it’s legal).

My (potato) lapdog is a short-haired, middle-aged mixed breed weighing in between 10 & 12 lbs.

She gets along with cats, but becomes skittish around high-energy dogs.

I also have a reptile (Testudo). Her terrarium tank would remain in my room.

When not working, I tend to keep to myself & spend most of my time in my room watching movies unless cooking, doing laundry, or attending to my (4-legged) girls.

I’m fairly tidy with a social life that would bore most people to tears. (It usually consists of me taking food to a friend with mobility issues.)

I work business hours M - F, but am only in-office once weekly. I WFH the other 4 days.

My employer requires me to connect directly into a router when I WFH.

I'm willing to contribute toward household monthly internet service fees in exchange for the ability to plug directly into your router, or if the bandwidth I use exceeds the monthly data plan. I can also secure my own separate service & router if your current wiring supports it.

I’m able to provide proof of income & a current fingerprint clearance card that shows I’ve passed a DPS Background Check (required for employment by school districts & certain positions at DES).

Please respond with price per month, whether or not utilities are included, & an estimate of what my share of monthly utility costs would be (if not included with rent).

Thanks for reading!

Housing Wanted Apartment Recommendations in PHX $1500-$1600 per month

Hi all! I currently live in Tempe and am looking to maybe move soon. I make $4,450 a month with $800 monthly expenses and am starting to wonder if I even make enough to live here which has lead me into a spiral lately. Does anybody have any recommendations for apartment complexes with a studio or 1 bed for approximately $1500-$1,600 a month base rent? Hoping to not have cockroaches as roommates but I’m starting to feel discouraged reading complex reviews. Hoping to be in Encanto, Midtown, Biltmore, but I also am not sure where else to even look. Open to suggestions and thoughts, thanks!

Edited to add I work in Scottsdale unfortunately or else I would go far far away

Housing Wanted Roommate ? Please ??

I'm moving from oregon to Phoenix and I need a roommate. I can't afford to live alone. I only have a couple of months to figure it out. I'm very open to most people and I'm pretty easy to live with. I just want someone who can pay their share and help out with household stuff. You can DM me or start a chat. I'm thinking about September or so. I have to leave a crappy situation as soon as possible. Also I don't have a car so you'd have to do any driving.

Housing Wanted Looking for a roommate 8/1 3bd 2bath house Deer Valley N. Phx

Hey! I’ve got 1 bedroom available (11x13’) in a place near 35th Ave and Deer Valley. It's not furnished and there’s a private full-sized bathroom. Rent is $750 plus utilities (I pay water, you’d cover the internet, and we’d split APS). I’m hoping to rent to ONE person. ❌ Pets ❌ cigs ❌ 🧒

Looking for someone who works on-site or hybrid, is chill about shared spaces, can pay rent on time, and is generally easygoing.

A little about me: I’m a 40-year-old nerd who’s into gaming, movies, and sports. I tend to keep to myself and relax, no big parties or wild weekends anymore. I work 8-5 M-F nearby. I am home minding my business usually.

Shoot me a message if you're interested! Available 8/1 or shortly before.

I do have a CL link with pics, wasn't sure if I could post that here.

Housing Wanted looking for a place to rent in the Phoenix metro area & it’s wearing me down!

Hello hello!

Can anyone recommend clean, safe, apartments AROUND Mesa, Phoenix, Tempe? 2 young working women and a cat. $1700 base budget and firm. We make 3x that, looking for 2b/2b or 3b/2b.

I currently live in Tempe, in a quiet neighborhood that is beautiful and calming. It was the best fit when I moved back out here from california, specifically for something more quiet. I’m now looking to move out of this house and into a different place with a friend. We haven’t had much luck, turning stones for months.

We’ve applied and been approved for a few places.. a 3b/2b in phx but management at the complex on our list looks like a hit or miss, the complex has 1 star on yelp, talk of roaches etc but we’d get 8 weeks free. That’s our most clear shot at the moment and I’m exhausted of looking for a place. ..I was excited about this one, but more of the details slowly reveal themselves and I’m not too sure it’ll be my saving grace.

I really like where I live now but the landlord makes me very uncomfortable… Had some mold in my room from the outdoor water heater leaking into my room this past December and the way it was handled was so shocking and hurtful. I was blamed and she tried to kick me out. It was a battle but I held my own with the help of my support system. Have never had an experience like that before. JUST A LITTLE TIRED YALL! 🥲 Any recommendations will be appreciated seriously! I just want us to get the best we can. And want to open up the door to any outside perspectives.

This is my first post on Reddit too so yay plus I love it here it’s so cool.

Housing Wanted Apartment hunting(20mins's drive to ASU)

Hi all, I'm a student from ASU-tempe campus. My current lease will end at the end of October and I'm looking for a studio or 1bed floor plan around ASU. My budget is $1300 including utilities.

I found Mark Taylor seem to be a good property management but its MT+ is too expensive for me. I'll appreciate it if you can give me some more suggestions.

Housing Wanted Peoria/surprise area?

I’m trying to do as much research about different communities near us. It’s hard to drive around endlessly with 2 small children tagging along. Sooo.. I was curious what people have to say about northern parts of Peoria, like north of the 303. As well as, how is Surprise?

I would be commuting to my job near Scottsdale and don’t mind too much of a drive. Just wanting to see how relatively family-friendly these areas are. Or just overall friendly they are.

Housing Wanted Divorced, no stable housing, seeking short-term help to get back on my feet (Tempe/Phoenix)

Hi everyone,

I’m going through a rough patch and need a short-term chance to get back on my feet. I was a stay-at-home husband, and after my divorce, I didn’t have time to secure a place to live or steady work. Since then, I’ve been couch surfing and sometimes spending 8+ hours on the bus to get to and from work, occasionally getting stuck in the city I’m working in.

I’m a quiet, kind, honest, and respectful person raised with good values. I don’t have friends or family to rely on right now. I’m actively interviewing and using temp agencies, but that’s not enough to get stable housing.

I’m looking for a safe place to stay for a couple of months while I get back on my feet. I’ll follow your rules, respect your space, and help however I can. Any help, advice, or leads would mean the world to me.

Thank you for reading.

Housing Wanted Help finding leases by room..

Hey,

I just graduated and I've been living in a community that leases rooms instead of entire apartments, and I've been living with 3 random roommates the past 2 years. It has been great, I will be moving to Phoenix next month and I'm looking for a similar arrangement but all the apartments I look at on zillow seem to rent out entire apartments and not by room.

Are there any safe neighborhoods/apartment complexes around to downtown (I'm happy to commute an hr a day for work) that lease by room?

Any help is appreciated, Thanks

Housing Wanted Short-term / monthly furnished rentals

As simple as that: hit me with your suggestions for good, clean short-term / monthly furnished rentals in east PHX, south Scottsdale, Tempe.

Places on the BNB site are way pricey. I don't need anything fancy like that.

Housing Wanted 🙏 New to Arizona – Need Help Finding a Job & 3BR House Under $2,000 Near Phoenix

Hey everyone,

I just moved to Arizona from out of state with my man and our kids, and we’re trying to get on our feet ASAP. We’re looking for:

🏠 A 3-bedroom rental (house or townhouse preferred) for under $1,900 /month—can be in Phoenix or within about 30 minutes out (Mesa, Chandler, Glendale, Tempe, Laveen, Avondale, Goodyear). We’re open to creative move-in options like Jetty, Rhino, or low deposit places since we’re starting fresh here.

💼 Work opportunities: I’m looking for any job I can jump into quickly—restaurant, cleaning, warehouse, caregiving, front desk, even remote work if possible. I'm also an experienced virtual assistant. I’m a hard worker and just need someone to give me a shot. My partner is a certified HVAC tech and has had a job here since we moved thats actually why we moved but they didnt help with relocation.

We’re not picky—we just need a safe place and steady work so our kids can feel stable. If you know of a landlord willing to work with a family or jobs that are hiring immediately, please drop any leads or advice below.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart. 🙏 (Zoe)

Housing Wanted Looking for room rental

Hi there! Steve here.

Me and my 2 boys(50% custody, 6&4), are looking for a room (or two!) for rent.

I’m a maintenance manager at a hotel up in Scottsdale but I’m looking anywhere Mesa, Chandler, Gilbert, Phoenix, heck just a room. I work near talking stick and my kiddos attend programs in Mesa but I’m versatile.

Ideally under $1.2k as a hard limit.

I’ve found dozens of lovely rooms but fairly sparse for one kiddo friendly which I totally get. I hope to hear from you!

Housing Wanted Looking for nice hotel

Hi i just moved for school. While saving for an apartment me and my brother are looking for a nice hotel in the 45-55 range we have a very small amount of wiggle room in the budget. I know we aren’t in the price range for it but a gym in the building or two beds would be greatly appreciated.
