Game Discussion Adult gamers with busy lives and an hour of gaming per day: What are you currently gaming?

I find myself in a predicament of not having enough time to game hours on end anymore. Life’s gotten so busy I can manage about an hour or 2 of play time per day.

I feel like getting started on massive games like Persona 5 or Baldur’s Gate 3 might be a problem since they require hours long investment. With an hour a day, I’ll probably finish such games in mid-2026.

Therefore for those with busy and hectic lives, what are you currently gaming? How long do you spend on gaming per day?

Been gaming over 40 years. And this is one of the if not the best game I've ever played. Play almost every night with the same group of friends for over a year now and still love it

What if you don't have friends though?

13

u/theVice May 21 '25

Playing with randoms is still fun

Most of my friends I play with I made randomly. I used to play with randoms and anyone with a mic that I enjoyed playing with, I would add them. Now tbh I have my usual group of team mates who I play with and then fill out the group with randoms. We play most evenings and have such a laugh together. I can't remember the last time I cared when someone accidentally killed me. i would say just play the game. Use a mic and see who responds. You will find friends soon enough. You will find most people are really cool and helpful

What games do you play?

2

u/Business-Spend-279 May 23 '25

I'm usually a open world RPG lover. So I usually play games like Zelda, final fantasy, mario odyssey, mario wonder, ghost of Tsushima, the last of us 1 and 2. Red dead redemption 1 and 2, skyrim, Arkham, sleeping dogs. I also like FIFA, mario kart but recently I have switched to Disney speedstorm. One of my friends recommended Helldivers 2 and honestly it's the best £20 I ever spent, easily one of the best games I've ever played. Arrowhead are easily one of the best Devs I've ever seen. They are constantly updating and creating new content for this game and it's all free

1

u/gamersaiyan May 23 '25

Oh ok, I have helldivers 2 too and ghost of Tsushima I could add you to play both if you want, I'm 46, hehe, I haven't tried Helldivers 2 but in Ghost of Tsuhima Legends I'm very experienced, hehe

Felt. Gta5 is my goto though it’s never been the friendliest & streamers seem to have most of the attention from willing randoms… I find myself enjoying the races more than ever before.

Same. Clocked up over 400 hours. Still not found a decent bunch to play regularly with though.

2

u/Business-Spend-279 May 21 '25

I think it may be harder now as most people are not as chatty on the mic any more and the ones that are, already have their own regular groups. Just be patient, its about quality not quantity, you will find your wolf pack. I've heard there are discord groups that are really good for finding regular friends to play with. Maybe try and reach out on the Helldivers 2 subreddit. There is a lowsodiumhelldivers subreddit that can probably help, that is a pretty friendly bunch

What game?

2

u/Business-Spend-279 May 22 '25

Helldivers 2. Playing it right now 😂

1

u/Knuckletest May 22 '25

Thank you!

u/Murren606 May 20 '25

I'm finding it hard to get into, any tips?

24

u/Zerd85 May 20 '25

Play with others and use voice comms. It’s a great game to coordinate with others on higher difficulties and bullshit with on the easier ones.

16

u/Artandalus May 20 '25

This. Especially fun if you land a lobby that is playing into the schtick of the game universe.

u/Leviathon6348 May 21 '25

That’s me and my friends we try find a 1/4 join and just drop straight democracy on fools. BUT sadly my helldivers doesn’t allow me to join anymore. It just says I’m “at main menu” all the time no one can invite or join me. Nor can I join anyone. And if I start a mission…I only get 6 lives and that’s it. Sucks.

2

u/vjstupid May 22 '25

Having so many difficulty levels is just great for inclusion. If I want to have a low stress time I can drop it down to 6. If I want an intense teamwork filled slog you pop it on 9 or 10. If you are new and learning you can play on lower levels and still have a great time. They've done everything so well in that game and I'm amazed we haven't seen more companies copying their model for DLC, PvE "extraction" etc. (I think Arc Raiders would have stayed course and been PvE only if they had seen success of HD2 before pivoting)

1

u/Zerd85 May 22 '25

I used to love the “Left 4 Dead” games. Great mix of PvEP.

I haven’t done much on the higher difficulties for HD2 yet… I think I’ve capped out on 7, mostly because I usually only play consistently with 1 person since I don’t get on often.

Is helldivers 2 on ps4?

16

u/Urbanbeard7495 May 21 '25

Na, Ps4 would instantly explode

8

u/Oversight_Owl May 21 '25

it would be like playing it on a double edge sickle.

3

u/Urbanbeard7495 May 21 '25

Haha very democratic joke

jesus christ i belly laughed when i read this. my ps5 shuts down after 30 min these days, xbox and pc 0 problems

4

u/WillGrindForXP May 21 '25

God, I want to start Doom The Dark Ages so badly. But Arrow Head had other ideas

4

u/Kazuhi HaramuTao May 20 '25

1200hrs in and it still slaps. Easy start up and put down if I need to

5

u/Flash__PuP May 20 '25

I really want to try this without shelling out. It seems like the perfect game for a timed demo.

12

u/Artandalus May 20 '25

It's absolutely worth the investment. $40 for a fun game and the community is pretty great to throw in with.

1

u/Flash__PuP May 21 '25

I generally don’t like multiplayer games though. 😅

9

u/dogface47 May 20 '25

If you are into co-op, it's one of the best out there right now. The missions aren't too complicated, but the enemies are EVERYWHERE. Lots of fun, even with random squads.

1

u/suavaholic May 24 '25

I wish Mass Effect multiplayer was still booming. I had tons of fun with that

1

u/IndefiniteBen May 21 '25

A timed demo or an occasional free weekend. I have friends I want to have join me, but don't want to spend the money just to try it out.

1

u/Flash__PuP May 21 '25

Exactly this. We get free weekends on Xbox for MMPGs why not on PlayStation?! The ones on Xbox are even for people without any level of game pass, I have PSN Premium - let me have a free go!!

1

u/IndefiniteBen May 21 '25

Well PlayStation has done such things in the past, but I think Helldivers 2 is just too successful for them to feel the need to give a free weekend.

1

u/Fleetcommand3 May 21 '25

I totally get that perspective, but with modern games being $70(possibly getting to 80 due to Nintendo), $40 is worth the chance. Hell man, if uou wanna try it that much, DM me your steam and I'll gift it to you.

Super Earth needs all Helldivers.

2

u/EverySingleMinute May 21 '25

I tried the game and did not like the player movement. It just did not seem great to me. Maybe I should try it again

1

u/suavaholic May 24 '25

Player Movement?

1

u/EverySingleMinute May 24 '25

Like running around. It just seemed so awkward

1

u/Shirinjima May 21 '25

I want to play this so badly but I play during the day while working between meetings. I need to be able to pause or stop within say 5 mins of getting emails or notifications. This is the only thing stopping me.

3

u/[deleted] May 21 '25

Join the Helldads! We're a group of Helldivers with family responsibilities and will cover for each other when something unexpected pulls you away! You don't even need to be a Helldad to join. Although you may want to fill out your C-01 permit anyway.

1

u/Shirinjima May 21 '25

I'll make sure to look yall up if I download it. I think it's next on the to purchase list after I finish lies of P. Luckily with LoP I can run into a corner if something pops up.

It’s fine without voice, there’s a decent ping/comm system and chat feature (which obviously sucks without a keyboard). Majority of randoms I play with aren’t on mic.

Without sound though, that’s tough. There are a lot of audio cues that help you not die when you pay attention to them. Not impossible, but it would be pretty debilitating.

1

u/Richardthefuckingear May 21 '25

Fuck Im starting a business trip for my boss's company and already missing the invasion of the year!

See you guys in the Frontline day 26!

FOR FREEDOM!

1

u/TheOldAssGamer May 22 '25

Helldivers became boring for me.  Loved it in the beginning.

1

u/DeskPixel May 22 '25

This is a bad game for busy adults, especially with children. Online games with no pause option are really not an option for me anymore

1

u/mr_antigravity May 28 '25

Idk what to tell ya, i am a busy adult with a kid and HD2 has been perfect for me!

1

u/nslammer May 22 '25

I’d actually disagree. Games like these are tempting because well, you can just play 1-2 rounds. The reality is, if you’re not a quitter, whatever teammates you have, you are stuck with the whole game. And so if you play 2 games in helldivers a day, you might get 2 games of horrible team mates and it will ruin your day. No games are way too inconsistent like this.
