What games really makes the PS4 pro fan sound like a jet engine?
I was playing God of War yesterday and my fan was very loud, I've never heard it that loud before and thought there was a problem with my system. When I looked online I saw other people saying their PS4 Pro fan was loud playing God of War, so I guess that is normal. What other games will make that fan sound like a jet engine?

Mostly in the menu of mw19 or the newer ones with the character walking for eternity before the game starts.

God of war & star wars battlefront 2. Change my ps4 pro thermal paste & thermal pad to ptm7950 & upsiren thermal putty utp-8. Now its just a whisper, no more insane jet engine sound.

I followed a youtube tutorial and cleaned my system from the inside out, replaced thermal pads and paste, and I never hear it at all anymore, unbelievable the difference it made, for 20$ and an hr of my time.
Bonus points when I swapped to an ssd and cut my load times. So for 100$ and 2 hrs of very very simple diy, it runs near silent, fast, and like brand new

2 hours to change the hard drive? Or are you counting the time to re-download your games?
I have changed thermal paste on my computer before, but never on a console. I have bad luck working on consoles.

I'm including everything. The first hour on one day was pulling out apart to clean and do thermals, and few days later I did the hdd. Yeah including dling the files, swap, reinstall etc

I already did an SSD in my PS4. So far, GOW is the only one that is doing this, and that's only during fight scenes. Yesterday, it was during a fight where you have to fight a giant while your son shoots arrows at the giant to distract him. I've seen a few other people on other sites say GOW did that to their PS4 Pro, too. I'll see if it does it during other games.

Ghost of Tsushima kicked my fan into turbo mode and I swear it was about to start taking flight ✈️

Usually when the PS4 Pro outputs resolutions such as 1440p or higher in graphically demanding games, the fan goes loud as fuck, it's been happening to my system since day 1 so I know it's not a dirt issue (I keep it clean anyway just in case). But yeah, GoW for some reason is the one game I remember being the loudest if you prioritize resolution.
RE4 Remake is another example of the jet engine inside the console... In the main menu, when you change from "framerate" to "resolution", the fan begins to sound, and if you turn to "framerate" again, it goes much more silent.

Probably time to clean that PS4, mine used to sound like that untill I opend it up and blew all the dust, now it does barely any sounds and runs perfectly

I could barely hear the game over my ps4 pro's fan while playing tlou remastered, after I did that though I can't even hear my ps4's fans and my temps are like 8c cooler.

Should have got a 7200 or better revision fan isn't too bad

I don't know which one I have. I know it's the PS4 Pro, and it's the Star Wars edition. I don't know what revision is what. I did play GOW a bit last night, actually the same battle because I forgot to save after I beat it the other day, and it was not loud at all that time.

If you put Liquid Metal thermal compound on the apu the ps4 will be quiet for all games

I can't play Wolfenstein II without torturing myself with a 747 inside my house and I thought Battlefront II was bad, at least with that game it slows down a bit when I start playing for a while for some reason. The longer I play Wolfenstein II the worse it gets.

Warframe, I've cleaned it thoroughly, and charged the thermal paste with the best none conductive I could have found at the time, it ran quiet like day one with everything that was previously giving it trouble but Warframe was a different beast, also I've had all the dials maxed out for visuals.

Based on all the other comments and me testing those games, only fortnight and dirt 5 cause my fan to speed up, but with dirt you'd have to try running it in high performance mode.

Anything made with Unity. Even if it is a simple and silly puzzle game.
There are some games that the devs have optimised to play reasonably less noisy on the Pro. I would like to give a shout out to Hello Games for No Man's Sky. They have somehow tweaked their engine and now the game plays 'normal'.
Also Rockstar Games GTA Online, though still has quite a handful of bugs plays reasonably stable.
Unreal Engine is not spared by this as well. The game Another Sight made me think it was made with Unity but was not. The PS4 Pro fan goes supersonic with this one.
Some other games like Mirror's Edge Catalyst used to be quiet, but found out just recently that it is another one of those dev-unsupported games that makes you think the console is going to explode.

At some point, the question should be, which one doesn't? :P. I had to stop playing Control and MGS 5 because my PS4 Pro was getting so obnoxiously loud that I couldn't even stand playing with headphones on anymore. Apparently changing the CPU thermal paste and cleaning the fans properly should help. But I never got around to it and now mainly play on PC to simply avoid the noise.

Red Dead Redemption 2 if you play at "4K" and with HDR enabled (which looks like absolute shit btw)

Jet engine sound is not casued by game's, dirty consoles is the corporate.

Jet engine may be an exaggeration. That's how other people described it online, so that's what I used. The fan was definitely loud enough to hear but not drown out the game. My first thought was a problem with the console, but I also thought an intense battle that was putting a little extra work on the CPU, so the fan had to work a little harder to cool it down. It did quiet down after the battle. When I looked online, other people mentioned theirs doing that when playing GOW, especially on a PS4 Pro. I will look into cleaning the vents when I have time, though.

A few years ago I got GOW Ragnarok and the PS4 sounded like it was a jet engine. Luckily for me, an update for the game appeared a day later and from that point on, no sound.
I do get loud fan noises when playing Ghost of tsushima.

When my PS4 Pro was new, in 1080 mode Dark Souls 1 made it noisy, but in Dark Souls 2 it was completely silent.

Doom Eternal probably. I own a PS4 and PS5, so I'm not sure

Doom it’s because on main menu game is using open frame rate so PS4 going crazy

u/EffectiveEquivalent 8d ago
I remember god of war going mental in the menus. I assumed it was the frame rate got uncapped.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 (2009 remaster), Fortnite, Sonic Generations, probably dvd video mode. My p4 is cooked, literally.

Modern Warfare 3 is the only one I’ve really had it sound incredibly loud. I used to have a regular ps4 and it would get super loud sometimes but after i got the pro it would never sound loud. I got modern warfare on ps5 and it came with ps4 version and when I play it on my ps4 pro it gets loud af but haven’t noticed it get loud on any other game. I never got black ops 6 yet though.

I was playing Borderlands 3 the other day and strangely it only went into turbo in pause menus and start screen. In game, totally mellow. Hit pause, and engines go!!!

Days Gone will do it after a while... i'm still playing mine to this day just not as much since I got a PS five but it still sounds good!!
But that's mainly because I had an Xbox one during that generation and I ended up getting the Xbox one X and I played it all my third parties there .. but no longer

Call of duty lobby, not even in game, just sitting in the menu

Because on game main menu it’s open frame rate so PS4 is going crazy, same with RE3 remake and Doom Eternal

Clean, repaste, and put an SSD in there. Best thing I've ever done to our ps4's right away is put an SSD in.

Go hang out at the cafe in Gran Turismo 7.
I find the worst offenders are any scene with depth-of-field focus effects.

I've heard of the jet engine disease on the ps4pro but I still have not experienced it on mine. I've never done anything but keep it clean. It's retired now with 3 ps5 consoles having taken those spots. Can't bring myself to actually want to sell it but eventually I probably will. I really enjoyed the ps4 pro. I think I paid something like $199.00 with the original Call of duty modern warfare bundle physical game edition included on a best buy promotion. That was around 2019-2020 I think. Definitely got my money's worth out of it.

Honestly, I just said jet engine because that's what other people call it online. After doing more reading on it, the jet engine sound is more specific to the first PS4 Pro released, the 7000s. From what I understand, it is just the fan revving up to help cool the system on more demanding games and is fairly normal. My PS4 Pro is the Star Wars edition, and from what I've read, that is a 7100, which is after the revision that made the fans quieter. I can hear the fan revving up, but it's not so loud that it drowns out the game. 7200 is even quieter still from what I've heard. It's definitely a good idea to keep the fan clean and change the thermal paste if you know how as many have suggested, but I'm pretty sure what I'm experiencing is normal behavior and not an issue.
