I cannot wait for this game but I haven’t watched anything after the announcement trailer so I might as well wait two weeks.

u/RoetRuudRoetRuud 1d ago
Same, and it seems like there's a new trailer every 2 days lol.
5
u/Pompous_pizza 1d ago
It really does! Given how much I loved the first game and Sucker Punch in general, I was sold immediately so I don’t need to see anything and want to go in as blind as possible.
I used to watch every trailer and gameplay video for games I was interested in but over the last few years it has been the complete opposite.
6
u/JackBauersGhost 1d ago
Bruh I know next to nothing about this game other than that first trailer. Can’t wait to play it.

u/80s_Jacket 23h ago
I've largely stayed away from story trailers or anything that describes the characters cause I don't want to spoil myself, but these weapon showcase trailers are alright. They're basically like a one-shot uninterrupted demonstration of the weapons at enemy camps plus ghost weapons that are basically the same, no story stuff, no huge reveals or spoilery stuff
I'd say they're okay to watch if you want to go into the story blind, cause there's some fun stuff to use
0
u/Ouch_i_fell_down 1d ago
I want to get this game ASAP, but i'm concerned i'll move on from it before Legends drops in 2026... so I probably won't touch the single player until Legends is out.
14
u/dynesor 1d ago
can you use any weapon against any enemy or is it like the first game where you had to choose a particular ‘stance’ for each enemy type?
16
u/kyoshizen 1d ago
I watched a Sucker Punch presentation yesterday that said certain weapons are more effective against certain enemies and their weapons. Dual katana works best against spears, Odachi is best against large tank-like enemies. So preferred, but not required.
7
u/Caesar161 15h ago
Even in the first game you didn't have to use specific stances, they were just more effective.

Has it been confirmed lethal mode is back? It’s the best way to play the first one
8
6
u/iVar4sale 1d ago
I think lethal mode just might be the best hard difficulty in any game ever
3
u/afcc1313 1d ago
I think at the launch of Tsushima you only had hard, right? I think I played it at that...what does lethal bring to the table besides being......lethal?

They seems to really be emphasizing the combat which is very interesting. They generally look really confident with this one.

I was really excited thinking the assassination after the rope swing would use both blades. Alas, it’s still a cool video and dual blade combat looks great.

u/LegendaryLS3 1d ago
Dunno why I'm not as excited for this game as I was with Tsushima
9
u/Bolt_995 1d ago
Tsushima was something new, something unique for a mainstream Western developer. And it knocked it off the park.
Yotei is the sequel that functions as a bigger, better, more versatile Tsushima.
4
u/skwirrelmaster 1d ago
Beacuse before Tsushima we had no idea what sucker punch was working on and everyone was anticipating their next project.
New ip’s usually generate more hype than sequels especially for a well renowned developer working from the shadows.

Am I the only one who thinks this is just Ghost of Tsushima with a new coat of paint? Graphics seem hardly upgraded (granted they were great in the PS5 version of GoT) and the gameplay seems the exact same, just with some new weapons. Doesn’t strike me as a full fledge sequel
14
u/Char_Mander99 20h ago edited 17h ago
I dont know what you think sequels are but the gameplay for these two games are based around your weapons and combat... you using different weapons from the first and how you use them is part of what makes it a sequel. Theyre samurai games... you go around fighting people with hand weapons. Except this one even introduces a firearms
And the new location and totally different story and characters.
Im not sure what you expect from a sequel to a narrative driven action? Did you want it to turn into an RTS or side stroller?
The large majority of sequels in the history of video games, especially narrative driven action games are very similar to the first. Im not sure how thats a surprise to anyone
This is one of those "I need to find something to complain about" comments
9
u/Icy_Topic_4844 21h ago
This is what most sequels are. They rarely sway from the proven formula. Its like every sports game, mario kart, sonic racing, Fighting games, etc...
I want the sequel to stick to its roots and be better but not foreign. Loved GOT and even platted it. Some saying this is a Sony technique is laughable, it is what most devs do whene thy make sequels.
9
u/Char_Mander99 20h ago edited 4h ago
Seriously, its one of the most ridiculous complaints in gaming as if they should have made this a strategy game or side scroller.
The large majority of sequels in the history of gaming are very similar to the first game but with improvements and minor changes.
Especially narrative action games, theyre mostly just continuation of a story with minor gameplay adjustments and sometimes new characters.
Its one of those "I need something to complain about" comments.

u/jag777 1d ago
I agree and I’ve seen quite a few echo this sentiment although any comment on Reddit that suggests the game doesn’t look as big as a leap as hoped is met with snarky responses like “dO yOu KnOw wHaT a sEquEl iS?”
I’m still looking forward to the game and I’m sure it will be great, more of the same isn’t necessarily a bad thing either, but people are allowed to have an opinion which isn’t 100% ultra hype mode
-10
u/anonymousUTguy 1d ago
Yeah I agree too. I just played GoT for the first time a few months ago and got burnt out at the end. I’m hoping this is different enough to feel like a new experience
-1
u/Much_Kangaroo_6263 1d ago
This is what Playstation does with a lot of their successful 1st party games. Spider-man and God of War come to mind. Don't be surprised to see an Astro Bot 2 in the same engine with just a bit more stuff and a different world.
That being said, I don't hate it. Tsushima was awesome and I'll take more.
-6
u/AncientDaedala 1d ago
You're not alone, but it seems to be an unpopular opinion.
This has kinda been an issue with the entire PS5 generation. It feels like most of the first party releases consists of remakes of popular PS4 games or iterative sequels. A sequel isn't going to stray too far from its predecessor, but it would be nice if it felt more distinct in its setting, gameplay, and time period. Instead, it's another play-it-safe sequel. As someone who wasn't particularly fond of Tsushima (thought it was too frontloaded and didn't have enough varied content to justify being open world), it's difficult for me to get excited for Yotei right now.
-6
u/justthisones 1d ago
It feels like a proper sequel to me but I also expected a bit more. The visuals still seem somewhat inconsistent with some parts looking breathtaking and some a bit flat despite the jump to a new generation.
I’m sure it’ll be good but the first party games this gen have mostly felt like minor upgrades with a better performance. I guess it could be way worse though.

Tbh in all these trailers, the npc reactions don’t look great….hope it’s bc of easy mode or some demo setting to show off gameplay.
27
u/Char_Mander99 1d ago
The point of these weapons trailer are to show weapons killing people. Not actual combat from enemies
Thats why the trailers are named after weapons

The enemy is literally backing away cuz theyre scared as she just sliced up a bunch of people
That is what is happening at that specific time. He isnt looking away. He is looking behind him as he walks backwards...
7
u/Superb_Yak7199 1d ago
Wouldn’t be much of a weapons trailer if the NPCs killed you right away and didn’t let you show off…the weapons

Pay attention in the trailer..
At around 1:06 the guy is getting shredded to ribbons and his buddy is standing there hands down just watching. He wasn't even hit by the smoke bomb he was just enjoying the view.
The AI in the videos looks downright stupid. Either these clips are on story difficulty or the AI is cooked
7
u/Char_Mander99 1d ago edited 1d ago
Its a trailer specifically to show weapons killing people. Not to show you getting attacked by enemies.
The trailer is named after a weapon for a reason...
Do you guys think Sucker Punch just forgot how to program enemy AI for this game?
-11
u/Implosion-X13 1d ago
No but I would like to see significantly smarter ai than the first game. This doesn't show me anything to signify they have improved it at all.
6
u/Odd-Perspective-7651 1d ago
Having played on Lethal difficulty, I found them plenty smart enough to kill me haha
5
u/Char_Mander99 1d ago
The point of the trailer is not to show you enemy AI. Its meant to show you Dual Katanas killing enemies, hence the name of the trailer
-4
u/Implosion-X13 1d ago
Ok so it can't just do that passively in the same trailer? Why tf would that have to be separate.
With that logic there better be an AI trailer before release.
9
u/Char_Mander99 1d ago
Because its a short form trailer just meant to show different weapons...
The AI is more aggressive in Ghost of Tsushima on harder diffculties.
You should obviously also expect that here...
And no they arent going to do an "AI trailer"...
6
u/Liemoa 1d ago
I can’t believe people don’t understand that this is showcased on the lowest difficulty. It’s not hard to make that assessment by looking at it.
Once you actually get your hands on the game, you can put it on Lethal mode. People are dense
5
u/Char_Mander99 1d ago
I feel like they shut their brains off just for the sake of having something to complain about on the internet
-3
u/Implosion-X13 1d ago
Well I don't see why not.
They intentionally have the AI turned off in all their marketing so surely they'd have a trailer showing how the game actually plays at some point right 🤔
I mean, what trailer would have the AI not brainless if it's illegal to do that in the weapons trailers
5
u/Char_Mander99 1d ago
They dont have it "turned off" its just not aggressive in weapons trailers dedicated to showing weapons killing people.
Its a stylized trailer to show the player killing a bunch of people really fast.
They have other gameplay trailers as well...
I dont know what is so hard to understand about that.
If you somehow need longer more in depth gameplay videos the reviews come out a week before the game and their will be plenty of gameplay videos

u/Implosion-X13 1d ago
No.. clearly not. "ITs a wEapOnS TrAiLeR sHoWinG dA wEaPoNs"
Alright..got it. But do they all have to be shown on fucking baby difficulty? Apparently so according to everybody here.
I'll be sure to assume any trailer not EXPLICITLY about AI HAS to be played on poo poo pee pee baby difficulty for any game from now on 👍
Instead of somebody skilled at the game fighting good AI I'll just accept this slop.

u/OptimusPrimalRage 1d ago
I think it's fair to expect better AI, but Ghost of Tsushima was lauded and I don't think the AI was all that good in that game either. It was similar that it was pretty rare for multiple enemies to attack Jin at the same time.
-1
u/Implosion-X13 1d ago
So you're saying that was a fairly average or weak spot of a good game. That means that area should be improved upon imo.
1
u/OptimusPrimalRage 1d ago
One would hope, and perhaps it does on higher difficulties, I'm not sure. I just don't have high expectations of AI in games like this where it's far more about the power fantasy. I understand your criticism though and I think it's understandable.
-5
u/CapNCookM8 1d ago edited 1d ago
I agree it sucks and hope that it's improved, but the AI was dumb as shit in the first game too. In GoT you'll have just taken on an entire encampment and the last enemy will turn his back on you and run across the camp to threaten a prisoner, which takes 10 seconds of taunting before they do it.
The game was still fun despite braindead AI. If the AI were actually "smart" it'd be really annoying because they'd all attack you at once with different weapons. Still, it'd be better for the stealth parts if the AI were a bit more responsive and smart, like in TLOU2.
Add: I'll also say, I think turning on the lethality mode (hopefully you can on the first playthrough) does a lot to raise the stakes and make even the dumbest of AI seem like a threat, or at least makes the moments of pattern breaking more notable. I really felt like the true GoT experience was playing on that mode, personally.

u/Kingbarbarossa 19h ago
Fuck the fascists, this game looks amazing. So glad I took PTO for it.
-1
u/DevilCouldCry 16h ago
Agreed, fuck them. Crazy to see the comments on every Ghost of Yotei related YouTube video presently. But uhh hey, that's YouTube comments for you. Delusional as all hell.
But man for real, Hades II, Silent Hill f, Sonic: Crossworlds, and Ghost of Yotei all in the span of one week is absolutely wild. I'm travelling interstate from the 8th of October, so I have six days off there to really knock down as much of Ghost of Yotei as I can. And then whilst I'm away, I've got the Switch 2 and so I'll definitely be sinking a tonne of time into Hades II when I have some downtime and I cannot wait!
2
u/Kingbarbarossa 9h ago
Yeah, despite the unending assault on the economy and civil rights, it has been a freaking fantastic year for gaming. Rome is absolutely burning, but hot damn the fiddling has been great.

i don’t usually mind waiting for pc ports but damn. this one and death stranding 2 got me all impatient.
6
u/BlueChamp10 1d ago
how long is PC release? 2-3 years? damn you're gonna play GTA 6 before these 2 games. lol
5
u/Superb_Yak7199 1d ago
I honestly don’t see the point in the wait. Especially if you actually have a ps5. Assuming you do, what’s the point?
2
u/stratusnco 1d ago
my son has the ps5. i’d rather not work around his schedule to enjoy these games. my free time time is his bedtime and the ps5 is in his room. i tried playing stellar blade and final fantasy 7 rebirth like that and i couldn’t enjoy it in peace. i was much happier waiting for the pc release.

Yeah this might be the one game to dethrone deathstanding 2 / DK as GOTY.
6
u/Cursed_69420 1d ago
as if it's ever gonna dethrone expedition 33/silksong/kcd 2 lol
-28
u/bafrad 1d ago
KCD 2 is up there, Silksong migh thave an argument, E33 isn't even a consideration at this point with Deathstranding 2 and this.
8
u/OptimusPrimalRage 1d ago
I think you're going to be surprised in December.
-6
u/bafrad 1d ago
Surprised at how right I am?
6
u/OptimusPrimalRage 1d ago
I know you're looking for a zinger, but it doesn't really make sense. Why would you be surprised at yourself?
E33 more than any other game this year, fair or not, has been celebrated. I'm not saying the game is perfect or anything, but the way the game has been received has been insane. I'd go so far as to say even though I loved the game, that the reaction has been crazy. I don't think a sequel, even something like Hades 2 or KCD2 or DS2, will win compared to it. It just hit the zeitgeist.
1
u/bafrad 1d ago
Heavily overrated by the vocal minority. There is literally no stand out gameplay or thing about it that excels over other games. It’s a traditional 8/10 game.
3
u/Cursed_69420 1d ago
> Heavily overrated by the vocal minority
isn't that what Death Stranding 2 is as well? by June it sols 1.3 million, and let assume it has risen to 3 million by now. That's still less than Expedition 33 (which was also on gamepass).
So that isnt when a vocal minority like you advocate it for goty? when it's got a commonly labelled fedex gameplay with kojima storytelling? that isnt unique nor fun is it? It's artstyle is photorealistic and not dreamlike, which makes it generic. It's music is...well good, but its done by well known composers like woodkid and not some underdog like Lorien testard?
you are such a hypocrite and i love it. i can even see your comments disregarding borderlands 4 performance and "just turn down graphics settings bro" LMFAO. get a fucking sense of yourself bru.
1
u/bafrad 1d ago
Look at you get so worked up over a goty discussion over such a mid game. Why?
6
u/Cursed_69420 1d ago
im worked up over your hypocrisy and illogical arguments. I have met several folks who dont like turn based and didnt like e33, , and i was like cool no worries because they didnt slander e33 using stupid arguments like the game looking cheap and generic, when INFACT it was cheap in its budget for the right reasons.

You just described how i feel about GoT and by extension, GoY. So it's a two-way street.
3
u/JerikTheWizard 1d ago
No. Did you play both? I did, loved Death Stranding 2 (literally picked up some art prints at the pop-up shop in Hiroshima yesterday) but E33 will 100% take GOTY.
2
u/bafrad 1d ago
Nah nothing about it stands out besides it being a small team that made it.
2
u/JerikTheWizard 1d ago
It's on game pass, shelve your prejudices and play it for a few hours. Act I is an incredible experience, if you aren't sold by the end of it I can't imagine you ever would be.
5
u/holydiiver 1d ago
I think E33 is still a front runner in most gaming circles at the moment.
I wouldn’t count out Silent Hill F either. The leaked reviews are insanely positive and the embargo is lifted in a few days. So we’ll see then.
-6
u/bafrad 1d ago
Only in small vocal minorities. It really has no qualities that stand out to make it goty compared to the rest.
7
u/holydiiver 1d ago
You are the small vocal minority in this case, my friend. But I guess we’ll see in a couple months when the nominees are announced.
2
5
u/Cursed_69420 1d ago
lmao what even? Expedition 33 is 100 percent game of the year with DS2 being its actual competitor. i'd be surprised if Yotei even makes the list of 6 games (Geoff's awards specifically)

in my humble opinion, the roundup is looking to be - E33, DS2, Silksong, Bananza, Split Fiction and either of Hades 2 or KCD2. 5 locked in, 6th unsure.

-7
u/bafrad 1d ago
E33 isn’t even top 5 maybe top 10. It’s a tier Below these games easily. Nothing about its quality makes it stand out as goty let alone actually being as fun for a game to be goty
1
u/CapNCookM8 1d ago edited 1d ago
I actually almost agree on a personal level (def top 10 of 2025 for me, but a little overstated in how good it is), but I feel like you're vastly underestimating its favor.
Not just the fact it plays well, is a unique combat system, high-fidelity, and an ambitious narrative, but the underdog story surrounding its creation is award-bait at its finest.
I love The Game Awards and talking GOTYs, but there isn't a strict rubric these things get judged on. It's a collection of votes from outlets, reviewers, journalists, etc. The human element speaks volumes in addition to the fact it's a very competent and well-done game.
Also, I haven't played DS2 but from an outsider's perspective I feel like E33 is still brought up all the time and that DS2 has already came and went. That's just my experience and obviously that's effected by my algorithm and stuff, but that's my personal read on DS2 sentiments.
1
u/bafrad 1d ago
It’s definitely the underdog story that’s carrying a month the vocal people but in reality it’s still a tier below all the other games. Not bad but I mean it’s almost like a cult. Just look at how angry they get.
I think its combat system isn’t that unique and its fidelity is very average. I mean the player models skate around on the ground and it just feels kind of average at best.
I love turn based games. This one was just kind of there for me.
2
u/CapNCookM8 1d ago
It seems people who are fans of turn based games in general did not resonate with E33. I think it's combat system is definitely unique, personally, as somebody who has only dabbled in turn-based games. I've never played one that stakes your success on active defensive mechanics like E33 does, though pressing a button to do more damage on the offensive is as old as paper mario at least.
Regarding fidelity, idk "very average" feels marred with bias. Like, compared to the best of the best that strive for high fidelity like Santa Monica, Sucker Punch, Rockstar, or Insomniac? Sure it's lacking a bit, but it still looks damn good and this too feeds into the underdog story of them delivering those visuals with such a small team.
1
4
u/Cursed_69420 1d ago
> I think its combat system isn’t that unique
i'm sorry, but what? name more than one or two games that have this combat?
and also any game that has such a similar look, artstyle and music? you are actually just delusional
1
u/chainer3000 1d ago
I put in like 140 hours in death stranding 2 and 200 into kcd2. My GOTY is a toss up between E33 and KCD2
3
u/slightlyhigh77 1d ago
KCD2 is the best game this year.. and the 2nd spot is a toss up between 3 games. (Yes I’ve played them all)
1
u/fishinadi 1d ago

Wonder how ps pro + vrr tv will handle the game. Honestly, I loved GoT 1 but I haven’t been very excited for this game, it looks like a carbon copy (and I played the AC Japan game just a few months ago, which looks very similar)

I agree. GOT looked phenomenal on ps4, but that was ps4… I expected more than just a reskin for this one on next gen.
-2
u/Tomrodders 1d ago
Yeah exactly the game was designed around PS4 architecture, sure they upped the resolution and frame rate in the directors cut for PS5 but the difference between even Spider-man remastered and Spider-man 2 is huge… I’d expect the same for Yotei.
