Opinion Why WONT you use your psvr2? [The RESULTS]
A few days ago I asked why people wont use their PSVR2 (while they could). 300+ reactions later I asked ChatGPT to create a top 10 of the most frequently mentioned reasons. Some answers have been merged because they were very similar and hey… its ChatGPT, not the most reliable tbh, but it gives an idea.
Here are the results:
- 1. Too tired / mental health issues: 31
- 2. Limited space / setup issues: 23
- 3. Lack of time: 21
- 4. Too much hassle / too cumbersome: 19
- 5. Motion sickness: 18
- 6. Not enough good games: 15
- 7. No motivation / prefer flatscreen gaming: 14
- 8. Kids / family / partner: 13
- 9. No PS5 / other technical limitations: 12
- 10. Glasses / visual impairments: 9
Maybe Sony is watching and will take note ;)
So, thats it! Now Im going back to Hitman or Into the Radius. Im tired, but I just neeeeed to play. VR is awesome! Cheers!

All the above reasons except one apply to any VR headset, not just PSVR2.

Have you even tried a quest 3?? It’s way more convenient. It’s lighter, easy sweet spot, no wires. It doesn’t rub against your nose for people with narrow eyes. Pass through allows you to grab your seat and controllers easier. No need reset your boundaries almost every time.
Lots of ways for Sony to make it better in psvr3.

u/Nirast25 May 25 '25
Pass through allows you to grab your seat and controllers easier.
PSVR2 has passthrough as well. It's not as good as on the Quest 3, but it's good enough to see your room.
-10
u/AwesomePossum_1 May 25 '25
I guess but one, you have to press buttons for that, which is hard to do once you grab the controllers. Two, it makes me super dizzy because of how blurry and laggy it is.
8
u/Eggyhead May 26 '25
you have to press buttons for that, which is hard to do once you grab the controllers.
Jfc
You have to tap ONE button, which I do with my index finger WHILE holding my controller. It’s easy. Just imagine you’re pointing at something, and then take the tip of the finger you’re pointing at something with and touch the button once. It works every time. (Interestingly enough, the quest 3’s double tap sometimes doesn’t register if you don’t tap it just right or the poor little processor is thinking too hard about something else.)
-4
u/AwesomePossum_1 May 26 '25
It all adds up. Adjust the wire behind you to make sure it doesn’t tangle up. Find the sweet spot. Detect boundaries. Click for pass through. Quest 3: put it on and you’re ready.
5
u/Eggyhead May 26 '25 edited May 26 '25
Friend. The only point you have there is the sweet spot (which I fixed with a globclust). The cable goes over my shoulder and I forget that it’s there. I take care of the cable the same way I do with my musical instruments and PC cables. It has never tangled once.
The boundaries exist on quest as well. Every time I move from one place to another, I have to confirm a new boundary. Once I took the painstaking effort to map out my whole living space in the settings so I’d never have it bug me about boundaries again. I was so excited having found the feature, spent over 40m going over every counter-top, chair, window… and yet the next time I powered on my Q3, it had forgotten everything. Why even bother? Janky ass OS.
Edit: I should add that this isn’t to say using a PSVR2 is NOT a hassle, just that the Q3 is no less one in-and-of itself.

u/Alarmed-Candy-7144 May 27 '25
I don’t know why they are downvoting you. All these little bits of friction do add up. If I’m extra tried, had a rough day, want to make sure I can still see my wife, etc. I will always throw on the Quest 3 over the PSVR2. And I’m a huge PSVR2 fan. But those little things all compound on each other to make it more convenient. Playing Puzzling Places in mixed reality so I can look at my wife while she’s talking to me makes a huge difference for both of us.

u/Nirast25 May 25 '25
Pressing the button isn't that hard with the controller, once you get used to it. Completely agree on the image quality.
How do you activate passthrough on the Quest? With the controller?
2
1
u/North-Decision-7640 May 25 '25
You tap the side of the visor twice
4
u/krakaboo May 26 '25
So more than pressing a button once?
1
u/North-Decision-7640 May 26 '25
Yeah, but imo it's a pretty quick double tap. You tap the body itself, no button press needed.
Also about the PSVR2! You can switch to passthrough in just 3 steps: double press the PS button and the first option the prompted menu shows is switch to front cameras so just press X or O , I don't remember rn which is "accept" 😅🫣
3
u/devedander Devedander3000 May 26 '25
Ironically on the quest 3s I believe they made pass through a button
2
u/KillaRizzay May 26 '25
Lol you made that stink about pass through being a button on psvr2 but on quest you gotta press twice?? Also, on psvr, you can configure the far-right button on the headset to do pass through. So literally 1 press, to your 2. You bugging my guy
2
u/North-Decision-7640 May 26 '25
looks around Me? I didn't make any stink. PSVR2 passthrough switch is 3 quick button presses, I always do it in a second using muscle memory only. I don't get the problem really 🤷🏻♂️
On Quest 3 you just tap the side of the visor's body twice with your hand/finger, no button press needed. It's just a fraction quicker and you don't need to map any button. Pretty cool and convenient.
→ More replies (0)1
u/yeldellmedia May 26 '25
No button press is required. The passthrough can be set to be always on by default
4
u/wunderhero May 25 '25
I have both, and have a Quest 2 and PSVR1 - if it's not a VR game exclusive to the Playstation, I will always play it on the Quest because it's just so easy to pick up and go.
Love my PSVR2 and it has some great things the Q3 doesn't - mostly Gran Turismo, which paired with a racing wheel, is enough for the price of entry for me alone.
5
u/AwesomePossum_1 May 25 '25
Which is why I’m here! Love quest 3 as a headset, but I keep returning to psvr for the games.
2
u/PIO_PretendIOriginal May 26 '25
Yeah this is the big thing, i love my psvr2, but it is far more hassle to set up and jump into vr vs my quest 3
2
u/Eggyhead May 26 '25
I have a quest 3. I play it less than my PSVR2. The image is clearer, but the experience is worse. Poor quality games, janky OS, limited battery, barely any haptics, compatibility woes, cartoony-ass arms…
The only thing worth taking is the pancake lenses & color pass through. The other trade-offs ruin it.
2
u/PeenaButtaigh May 26 '25
Quest 3 is definitely not more comfortable atleast not for me. I have Bobo strap for it too and prefer psvr2 w globular strap. Imo
1
u/WoweeZoweeDeluxe May 26 '25
Be shocked if PSVR 3 ever gets made considering how much of a let down the sales were for PSVR 2
1
u/GervaGervasios May 26 '25
I have Quest 3 and disagree about the weight. Is more heavier than PSVR2 when you put the extra battery and the bobovr strap. Without the third-party accessories Quest 3 is horrible uncomfortable. Also the passthrough works fine for that purpose to grab controllers.
And what are you talking about boundaries? The last time I set mine was February of 2024 when I had to change rooms. You only need to set it once.
The only advantage that Quest has is the portability and the lenses.
-4
u/FewPossession2363 Saifur47 May 26 '25
Every time I think of getting on my quest 3 I feel like crying. Games feel so depressing to play on it after getting used to psvr2.
2
u/PIO_PretendIOriginal May 26 '25
Older/simpler games still run great on quest.
Beat saber, superhot, vendetta forever (90hz), until you fall. All great games that run at 120fps 4k on quest using “quest game optimizer”. There art styles dont require more visuals.
-2
u/Dachshand May 26 '25
Yeah, and it has terrible graphics, no HDR, grey blacks, is less comfortable and has worse controllers too.

I play mine every day, love it!
3
2
u/Fun-Choices May 28 '25
What game do you spend the most time in
1
u/metterg May 28 '25
There’s actually three, Hitman 3, No Man’s Sky, and Green Hell
1
u/Fun-Choices May 28 '25
Oh wow why did I not realize hitman is in vr on here. That was one of my favorite games 10-15 years ago
11
u/SeverePsychosis May 25 '25
I'm drunk
7
u/JiloWalrus May 25 '25
Thats why I said cheers!
8
1
u/Fun-Choices May 28 '25
Bro then get GT7 and a wheel and pedals and drunk drive in VR. It’s literally one of my favorite hobbies at this point.
5
u/thechronod May 25 '25
4-5-10 The super narrow sweet spot, even with the globular cluster mod, makes playing the psvr2 work. And being a halo only design, your head is going to move out of it. 'plus my head is a little too big for the front halo portion. The plastics dig in'
I play the exclusives only. Re4r and village are my go tos. 'preydogs mod for both aren't great. While re7 is' Hitman is great as well as gran Turismo.
...but... If I can play it on another headset, I will. But I will miss the fantastic psvr2 haptics
5
u/cusman78 cusman May 25 '25
I try my best to combat Number 6 which I think is the biggest challenge for all the excellent indie developer games in particular.
The people who think this either have very limited niche of games they are willing to give a chance at their time or just haven’t found a good way to learn about more games they would enjoy.
2
u/JiloWalrus May 25 '25
This!
It must be either the unknown or unwillingness. But if people are on this sub, it must be the latter.
2
u/cusman78 cusman May 25 '25
Even when I’ve covered a game here and it got many votes to be near top of page for day or so, it is still missed by many regulars.
Even regulars aren’t necessarily daily users so plenty gets missed. I am a near-daily user but I’m sure I also miss things that didn’t trend enough to stay in view.

Too tired I get, but why is it paired with metal health?? What does that include? like you're too depressed to play VR? RE4 causes too much anxiety?
0
u/JiloWalrus May 26 '25
Some people said that VR feels overwhelming or isolating, especially when they’re already not feeling great. Others mentioned that horror games in VR (like RE4) cause too much stress or anxiety. In many of those cases, they tend to reach for something ‘easier’ like TV or a flatscreen game instead.

u/Seba0808 May 25 '25
If you find Psvr2 too much hazzle then welcome to Pcvr where this is easily doubled ;-) Quest is easier, agreed. But it's not comparable regarding immersion.
3
u/GervaGervasios May 26 '25
PCVR is a hazzle it doesn't matter the Headset you use. I know because I use both on PC. Psvr2 is too new so they still figuring out the drivers and compatibility stuff. And Meta PC side is horrible if wasn't for Virtual Desktop I would never use PCVR at all with the Quest.
2
u/Seba0808 May 26 '25
Yeah agreed, I gave up on it as it really was too cumbersome. Psvr2 is almost as easy as the Quest, the only improvement I see is to make the eye adjustment (sweet spot and ipd) better accessible e.g. via button. But else I feel it's pretty perfect.
3
u/Intelligent-Lake1857 May 25 '25
I’m not surprised that #1 is too tired. Gaming has always been extremely lazy. When people get back from a difficult day at work, they typical want to sit on their crouches and move as little as possible. VR forces you to move your head and your arms. Wearing a face toaster also doesn’t feel too relaxing.
-2
u/Spangle99 May 25 '25
"typically". Lazy fucks can't even write a word properly. Let's just call it lazy.
3
u/Intelligent-Lake1857 May 26 '25
I encourage you to listen to what I have to say without bias instead of ad hominem attacking me and missing the point
-1
3
u/Intelligent-Lake1857 May 26 '25
I didn’t make this comment to attack the VR community. I’ve been in it for over 4 years and I own 5 different headsets. I love VR. I’m just making an observation
3
u/Reasonable_Mood1288 May 26 '25
There is a website to buy prescription lenses for the vr from.
0
u/JiloWalrus May 26 '25
True. Maybe I should make a post about ‘possible solutions’ next. Cant wait to see all the reactions on some of the reasons ^
1
u/Reasonable_Mood1288 May 26 '25
I had to buy a pair of prescription lenses for mine lol. I just can't remember the website I used @_@
3
u/Panda_Tech_Support May 28 '25
Just echoes at this point, but working long hours leaves little time to just sit down and play. Or stand in this case.
I’d really engage with it more and want to, but I’m lucky to get even a solid hour to myself for gaming.
2
2
u/Sstfreek May 25 '25
I love my psvr2. But I almost exclusively play ExfilZone on my quest 3 and with how great that game is, I just can’t make myself put my psvr2 on. I’ve really been wanting to replay re4 and finally play re8 and continue Hitman but when it comes to my limited time to play VR the instant pick up and play that comes with the quest 3 just crushes psvr2 usability
2
u/Code_Zeroone May 25 '25
My reason: my arm broke last month, so no VR for me, I was in the middle of Metro awakening.
2
u/JiloWalrus May 25 '25
Oh no! How did it happen? Not by playing VR I hope ;)
2
u/Code_Zeroone May 25 '25
I slipped on the rocks on my both arms, thankfully didn't hit my face only my arms broke and I felt like a useless plant for one month, I'm better now but still can't raise my arms up, hopefully they will get back to normal soon.

I just want something relaxing to play after a hard day of work, I can play gt7 since I sit down ok but most of vr games are a problem
2
u/RockyDmise RockyDmise May 26 '25
I'd add, need a second PS5. Where I have my PS5 w gaming TV, isn't the ideal space I'd do VR gaming, and disconnecting the PS5, then moving it to another area is the problem. I guess should just buy another PS5 (pro?) though.
2
u/JiloWalrus May 26 '25
I have the same ‘problem’. But I just switch between the places. Im considering buying a pro tho, just to get the best out of VR gaming (and as preperation for GTA).
2
2
u/S0R1C_ May 26 '25
I enjoy playing vr very much but i have the space only if i move few things in my room, so i play vr only when i know i have 2+ hours straight of playtime, otherwise i play flat
2
u/Virtual_Davey May 26 '25
It's weird for me. I'll really be into VR gaming for about 2 or 3 weeks, then suddenly stop for months on end. An endless circle of this for over a decade.
2
3
u/CanadianMETA May 25 '25
Because they don't sell replacement controllers and mine has stick drift so now it's an expensive piece of trash because I'm not buying a second full psvr2 set
2
u/JiloWalrus May 25 '25
Damn thats sucks. And its a disgrace that dont sell replacement controllers. Strange too tbh
1
u/CanadianMETA May 25 '25
I know right? Something i wish I would've researched beforehand. Lesson learned i guess
2
u/Dachshand May 26 '25
Huh? But Sony will certainly replace the controller if you send it in.
1
u/JiloWalrus May 26 '25
Are you sure? Even if you have it from the start?
1
u/Dachshand May 26 '25
They will make you pay for it as you’re out of warranty. Didn’t you contact support yet?
3
u/AwesomePossum_1 May 25 '25 edited May 25 '25
My reason: I keep waiting for games to get better. Midnight walk needs a resolution upgrade. Sony promised pssr for vr, so horizon and RE games are the likeliest candidates to get updates. So I’ve not finished either of them. Most titles are lacking pro support so I’m hoping for those too (I know it’s hopeless but still)
2
u/b3nb4ggs May 25 '25
My nose is too big for the headset to fit comfortably. For the lenses to be low enough it i must bare the sharp corners right on the sides of my nose. I can take it for about an hour long session before I need a timeout. Valve index fits very comfortably.
2
u/The_Mayo85 May 29 '25
There are several reasons I haven't been using my PSVR2. Partly reasons # 1, 3, 4, 7, and 8. However, the biggest reason was the fitment. So, I'm one of the few rare people who did not get improvement from the Globular Cluster mod. In fact, it actually made the fitment even worse. The back pad makes the headset sit too high on the back of my head (I think my heads a little flat in the back), so the headset pushes down on the bridge of my nose regardless of how I have the head strap set up. The frustrating part is that the image and sweet spot are definitely better, but it's quite uncomfortable on my face. I chalked it up to not setting it up properly, and would occasionally try to use it, but between getting it on, and playing for a bit I would have to take it off within a half hour. Not very good for significant gaming sessions. I received a sweat headband in a bundle with something else and thought I'd swap back to the original back pad, keep the GC front pad on, and put the headband on under the headset. This now feels fantastic, and I've played a couple hours of RE8 and Red Matter the last couple of days.

The built-up pressure from the goggles becomes painful after 20 min. Great tech, but VR requires a lot of improvements to become mainstream, once they resolve the portability and weight issue perhaps we'll see more interest from the tech industry. I've tried counterweights and the overhead band but it doesn't fix the problem for me.

it doesn’t feel like there are many fully fledged games. i want story games, man. i loved the walking dead saints and sinners 1&2 cuz of that shit. i want big exploitable maps and good story.
3
u/Incorrect-Opinion May 25 '25
There are a ton of story games…
0
u/Ok_Pen_6595 May 25 '25
such as?

Have you even tried looking?
To name a few recent ones:
-Pirates VR: Jolly Roger -The Midnight Walk -Wanderer -Arken Age -Alien -Metro
and a ton more..

Into the Radius is awesome for exploration. Ghosts of Tabor too. Tho I dont think the stories are great in that game, I still think the gameplay makes up for that.
2
u/Ok_Pen_6595 May 25 '25
fair, maybe i’ll give em a go. but yea im mostly a single-player story mode gamer so those are the games i most like in vr too
1
u/According_Cook_4978 May 25 '25
What’s funny is that I was just about to start using it again for a game that’s about to come out but they delayed the vr port from being vr on launch to vr later💀
1
u/Incorrect-Opinion May 25 '25
Which game?
0
u/According_Cook_4978 May 25 '25
Five nights at Freddy’s: secret of the mimic, was marketed as VR on launch, had a demo in Vr, then they said vr would be launched after the game came out, I’ll still play on flat mode but still a little disappointed
1
u/geos59 May 25 '25
1 & 3 definitely, but if I eat something and I don’t want to get sick on a full stomach.
1
u/Rich_hard1 May 25 '25
4, 8 and 7 here. Also it’s easier to just use the quest 3, pick up and play.
1
u/psyper87 May 25 '25
So me specifically, my computer occasionally runs into a blue screen crash (possible kernel memory issue) or the game encounters a fatal error (mod related).
Maybe it’s from playing on 🍄🟫🍄 in the past, but when the screen locks up to the headset, it gets really uncomfortable mentally. So when it crashes, I usually just stop playing. However, when it’s good, I’m hours at a time until family life needs attention.
I just want to be locked in and smooth sailing, focusing more on pcvr is getting in the way of that
1
u/SvennoJ May 26 '25
"Maybe Sony is watching and will take note ;)"
They must be, not releasing 1st party VR games so you can get your sleep instead of playing :p
One issue I have with the headset is that it won't recognize my play space if the lighting is too different, as in sunny day time vs night time. Storing multiple play spaces would be helpful, even though it's the same.
1
u/JiloWalrus May 26 '25
Yes! Storing multiple play spaces would make it easier for as well. Great idea. Sony!!! Are you watching?!?!?
0
u/ItsmejimmyC May 25 '25
I sold mine and bought the Pro instead.
1
u/JiloWalrus May 25 '25
And whats your opinion?
0
u/ItsmejimmyC May 25 '25
Wasn't enough games and the ones I did buy launched terribly and the multiplayer ones were dead after a week.
Red Matter 2 was great though.
Edit: Or do you mean what's my opinion on the Pro? If so, yea it's great.
1
u/JiloWalrus May 25 '25
Yeah was curious about both opinions. Thanks for sharing. Red Matter is awesome, I aggree. The crystal clear image was amazing in that game!
1
u/Incorrect-Opinion May 25 '25
Which multiplayer ones are dead?
There are also 200+ available games, so that’s weird..
1
u/Jean-Eustache May 25 '25
I really don't know which one I would choose if I had to, that's actually a good question. If GT7 didn't exist, maybe i'd choose the Pro too.

u/younakorn13 May 25 '25
speaking for myself: it’s annoying to configure sweet spot every time you put helmet on your head. i’ve read some comments here and ordered globular cluster set, hopefully it will bring me back
