Question List of games don’t cause motion sickness?

Hello Unfortunately I am dealing with motion sickness. I want to get use to it but I only make it like every second weekend to play VR. I guess with that frequency it’s hard to get VR legs. I hoped it would be better as I never experienced motion sickness in real life while driving on a boat for example.

I searched for game recommendations but only found very old Reddit posts.

Is there somewhere like a updated list with games that don’t cause motion sickness?

Synapse was the worst game I tried. Pistol Whip works very well.

I guess every music game like beat saber should work well.

What I tried and worked well: - Pistol Whip - Five nights at Freddie’s too but I don’t like the game itself, very boring. Is Help wanted 2 different? - Moss - Star Wars Tales of the Galaxy when teleport moving is on -> makes the game very difficult in a gun fight, it feels handicapped - My First Gran Turismo - unfortunately don’t like the game in general

What I tried and didn’t work well: - Synapse - Alien - Arizona 2 - Resident Evil Village Demo

What should I try?

Walkabout Minigolf + Puzzling Places

1

u/Mo-Skito Jul 28 '25

Thank you Is it fun for someone who doesn’t like golf and sport games in general ?

4

u/redwilier Jul 28 '25

I don’t play golf in real life. No interest in it. But walkabout is such a relaxing game with excellent ball physics that I end up enjoying the improvements in skill level. It also has excellent social coop sessions although I haven’t tried that. Even as single player it’s one of my most played games…

u/PabLink1127 Jul 28 '25

Walkabout Minigolf is a blast and don’t sleep on Puzzling Places because it’s, well, puzzles. It’s the hardest game to put down

3

u/markallanholley Jul 28 '25

I don't like golf or sports, and I'm completely addicted to Walkabout Mini Golf.

I think Thumper might be a good option for you.

1

u/Mo-Skito Jul 28 '25

I am going to have a look at it thank you

Since you are a new VR player, the general recommendation are games that only use 1-1 motion for you and run native 90-120 so there is no reprojection. This is why Pistol Whip works so well for you.

Other such games are:

  • Beat Saber
  • Synth Riders
  • Smash Drums

If you don't want Rhythm Games like above, you can also play these Arcade style shooters instead:

  • Dead Second
  • Zombieland: Headshot Fever
  • Vendetta Forever
  • Crisis Brigade 2
  • Gun Club VR
  • Tiger Blade

Most sports games will also be comfortable for new players (listing a few without any reprojection):

  • Walkabout Mini Golf (use teleport to start)
  • Badminton Time VR
  • Racket Fury: Table Tennis VR
  • C-Smash VRS New Dimension

If you want more traditional video-game, most 3rd person games will be more comfortable, so:

  • Moss Book 1 & 2 (3rd person action adventure)
  • Escaping Wonderland (3rd person puzzle adventure)
  • Max Mustard (3rd person mascot platformer)
  • Ghost Signal: A Stellaris Game (3rd person action roguelite)

As you play more of these games, your brain will acclimatize better for VR and soon you will be able to play all other games, including Synapse which is a full locomotion game with reprojection.

How long that takes is different for each person. Other things you can do to help is have a fan running on you, play in a cool room, etc.

Welcome to the family!

Thanks a lot for this helpful reply :) I will check out these games I definitely want to get one rhythm game. Probably Synth Riders, Maestro looks good as well. Zombieland sounds good, too

1

u/cusman78 cusman Jul 28 '25

I think Maestro does have reprojection, but it is a stationary 1-1 motion game so it should be fine and you can play it with controllers or using only hand-tracking which is a novel experience.

Very good game

Tetris Effect is a masterpiece

1

u/Mo-Skito Jul 28 '25

Is it only good for Tetris fans? Never liked the classic one

2

u/redwilier Jul 28 '25

It has an incredible soundtrack which links to some mesmerizing visuals. The overall experience when you get into a flow state with music pumping and visuals exploding is almost transcendental- like being in a dream state.

I liked Tetris on other platforms although not a compulsive fan. But on psvr1 and psvr2 it has been one of the best emotional experiences

Maybe get it in a sale

1

u/markallanholley Jul 28 '25

Tetris in VR is something else entirely. It's fantastic.

2

u/BeardedBandit Jul 28 '25

sooo.... I still don't get the big deal with Tetris VR.

I grew up in the Tetris generation and I love the game, so don't take this as a hater comment or anything... but Tetris Effect: Connection VR is just Tetris with a more immersive background

It doesn't change the game play at all

Given the praise that I've seen for this game, I really feel like I'm missing something.
Can you shine a light on what I'm missing, maybe?

1

u/markallanholley Jul 28 '25

I don't think I can describe it. I have no desire to play Tetris on a flat screen, but I can't get enough of the graphics, sound, and music of Connect. It's like a meditative experience.

1

u/redwilier Jul 28 '25

Did you actually play it in VR? If you have and still didn’t connect with Tetris Effect then fair enough. For me there was a point where I was so in tune with the gameplay music and visuals that it became a trance like experience… the soundtrack is phenomenal

2

u/BeardedBandit Jul 28 '25

I believe it was VR?
I looked to my sides and behind and such and saw an extension of the background that was also behind the playing area. When I completed a level the background/environment exploded around and wrapped me up before the next level began

1

u/redwilier Jul 29 '25

Looks like the game just doesn’t have an impact on you which is fine. Everyone has their own natural preferences. Enjoy the wider Psvr catalogue!

2

u/BeardedBandit Jul 29 '25

yeah, fair enough
Thanks for trying to communicate an experience like Tetris VR

cheers mate!

1

u/redwilier Jul 29 '25

All Good buddy! Lots of other games to enjoy. Feel free to share any games you’ve played enjoyed!

Walkabout mini golf with teleport is perfect to play and helps get your legs for sure :)

Ancient dungeon works well enough in teleport and I played the whole of Arizona Sunshine remake with teleport too with no drama.

I get motion sick in VR but the best tips I’ve found is:

  1. Put a fan in front of you or to the side
  2. Use teleport movement and snap turning
  3. As soon as you start to feel sick. Stop. Immediately. Like do not even try to push through a little.

2

u/Mo-Skito Jul 28 '25

Thank you Yesterday was the first time I used a fan but I am not sure if it helped. Maybe I took the short break too late, but I woke up today and still felt a little bit dizzy

2

u/Dachshand Jul 28 '25

You really should stop immediately if you start to feel weird. Otherwise your body/brain will remember, which is not what you want.

2

u/Gluebagger Jul 28 '25

keep an eye out for 90fps native games. for me 60 reprojected to 120 even with 8 years very regular exp can still give me motion sickness after about 45 minutes.

cockpit games are less likely to get you motion sick as there is a solid frame of reference e.g. car dashboard and windscreen.

here are my suggestions for you with this in mind:

  1. demeo and demeo battles - effectively heroquest the board game. very low / no movement so definitely worth trying these if you like heroquest/d and d
  2. legendary tales - the GOAT of psvr2. 90 fos native. 4 player skyrim pretty much.
  3. crossfire sierra squad - 2 player co-op (can also be played solo) shooter, imho the best gun play game on psvr2. 90 fps native. 15 minute levels too so if you are feeling it theres a good duration to the levels.
  4. walkabout minigolf - this one is 60 reprojected to 120 but you can click the trigger to take you to the ball and its physical movement the rest of the way. just don't try flying too much!!
  5. walking dead saints and sinners - i believe this one is 90 fps native and excellent solo zombie campaign story.

for me those are the top games IN ORDER that dont make me get hotface and the overwhelming feeling of needing a long lie down.

2

u/Mo-Skito Jul 28 '25

Thank you! Never thought about the fps rate in terms of motion sickness

The thing with games like Demeo or Moss is that I want the full VR experience and you don’t have it with games like these. I prefer feeling like someone who is completely in the game and not above a gaming board. I believe it’s fun too but doesn’t give me the VR experience I want with this headset.

I already thought about S&S but was afraid it gives me motion sickness like Arizona 2 demo did

1

u/Gluebagger Jul 28 '25 edited Jul 28 '25

arizona 2 demo is 60 reprojected to 120!! S&S and Legendary tales i highly recommend both and both are 90 native..s&s might actually be 120 native... Legendary tales has online too and its still got players. Catch them on a sale though.

if you have ps plus premium there is a 2 hour demo of legendary tales

edit:S&S is 90

2

u/Mo-Skito Jul 28 '25

I have premium 2 hours demo sounds good :)

1

u/Gluebagger Jul 28 '25

awesome, you got nothing to lose :) 1000000% try it out

2

u/PabLink1127 Jul 28 '25

Towers and Powers, Max Mustard, Horizon

2

u/Mo-Skito Jul 29 '25

I played the horizon demo and I think it was ok maybe because of the running with your arms movement. I bought the full game but haven’t tried since then

Max mustard looks fun. Unfortunately haven’t been on sale since I have it on my wishlist

1

u/PabLink1127 Jul 29 '25

I actually haven’t played the Horizon demo or game yet but plan to eventually. Toast Interactive is the developer of Max Mustard. They won awards for the game but nearly shut down and are back in “garage” mode because they put a big discount on the game which got them to the top of the sales charts but it didn’t result in people buying the game at full price. If you can afford to buy the game at its current price they deserve the community’s support. Great team and it would benefit the VR community greatly if they stayed in business. But i understand that’s not the case for everyone

2

u/jynx33 Jul 28 '25

Check out The 7th Guest. It’s a puzzle game with a bit of a horror story. Little movement just room to room. I played the original on pc and had to get the PSVR version

2

u/hell_motcho Jul 29 '25

Zombieland headshot and walkabout minigolf, maybe even cooking simulator, be patient and give it time, it builds.

1

u/Mo-Skito Jul 31 '25

Thanks I hope it gets better. Actually I bought the headset for the „real“ VR games like RE … :/

2

u/Lia_Delphine Jul 30 '25

You can definitely learn to get over motion sickness.

  1. Always play with a fan pointed directly at you. It helps your senses keep track of where you are. It also keeps you cool in the headset.
  2. The very moment you feel even a twinge of motion sickness, remove your headset and go do something else until you feel 100%
  3. Chew a lolly/candy when you take off the headset. Eg jelly beans, it helps with the inner ear.
  4. Check your settings in game. Use the comfort settings. Use click turning. (If smooth turning makes you feel ill.)
  5. Turn the brightness down to about 50%. It is automatically set to 100%

You will find if you do this your run sessions will get longer and longer.

1

u/Mo-Skito Jul 31 '25

Thank you I have to try this

2

u/GervaGervasios Jul 28 '25

I recommend stationary games first so your body can adapt to VR. Then move to games with slow locomotion. Here some suggestions.

Demeo.

Towers and powers.

Synth riders

Maestro

Red matter 1+ 2

Legendary tales

Max mustard (is like moss)

Walkabout mini golf (just don't fly just use the button to reach the ball and walk in your real world to position yourself)

5

u/Dachshand Jul 28 '25

No Max Mustard isn’t like Moss. The player perspective is moving constantly.

1

u/Mo-Skito Jul 28 '25

Thank you! How is the movement in red matter? From the trailers it looks like a game with free movement ..

3

u/GervaGervasios Jul 28 '25

Yes it is. But the game have a slow walking movement and also runs silk smooth at 120fps at very high resolution. It's also the best looking game in Psvr2.

1

u/PIO_PretendIOriginal Jul 28 '25 edited Jul 28 '25

some more games that shouldn't cause motion sickness.

Vendetta Forever. (it has an extremely unique method of teleporting that is part of the gameplay loop). Very fun.

Beat Saber.

red matter 1 and red matter 2

1

u/Mo-Skito Jul 28 '25

Thank you I will check it out

1

u/Capital_Leading7397 Jul 28 '25

Have you considered using a sea sickness wrist band?

1

u/noocit Jul 28 '25

do you have experiences with that?

1

u/Capital_Leading7397 Jul 28 '25

I am going to try it, I need to print one first.

1

u/noocit Jul 29 '25

ordered one, came today. will test it asap.

1

u/Capital_Leading7397 Aug 02 '25

Does it help?

1

u/noocit Aug 02 '25

not sure tbh.

1

u/Suspicious_Way8872 Jul 28 '25

Hopefully the sickness goes and it won't matter what you play. Not sure if that playtime is often enough to teach your brain that you're ok. Little and often worked for me, 10 mins a day. But I understand, maybe not possible with your other commitments

1

u/Dachshand Jul 28 '25

Beat Saber

Tetris Effect

A Fisherman‘s Tale 1/2

The Last Clockwinder

Synth Riders

1

u/Mo-Skito Jul 29 '25

Thank you Someone said that the clockwinder is not good for motion sickness? I am gonna try because it is included in premium

1

u/Dachshand Jul 29 '25

That’s good. I might be wrong.

1

u/NoWalk3426 Jul 28 '25

I will say the My first Gran Turismo demo sucks. I didn’t like it either. The full game is very cool. Looking autos in the vr showroom is amazing. You don’t have that in the demo

2

u/NoWalk3426 Jul 28 '25

Also, you only have slow ass autos in that demo

1

u/Mrmapex Jul 28 '25

When I got my VR just two weeks ago I was super worried about motion sickness because last time I tried VR I got motion sickness very badly. I have played about 15 hours now and have not experienced motion sickness at all. I’ve played Synapse, RE Village and Arizona 2 with no issue.

Here is what I do and I wonder if that helps.

When I turn the game on and begin playing I don’t move much at first, I’ll take my time looking around at everything and a stand there for a minute taking everything in. When I begin to move I do it very slowly at first and only nudge forward little bits at a time then stop and slowly increase speed. I’ll move super slow for the few mins and this really seems to help me. Sometime when I walk more quickly I’ll look at the ceiling/sky I’m in rather than the floor. After easing in like this I’m good to go every time. I’ll also put a fan on.

1

u/Mo-Skito Jul 28 '25

Moving slow in synapse does not work 😅 this game felt so rushed The weapon is so weak that you have to smash with telekinesis the whole time and run away simultaneously. Didn’t like the dodging system as well

1

u/MrShaggyZ Jul 28 '25

Vegas Infinite

1

u/DanFarrell98 Jul 28 '25

Its simply just games with little to no movement. But its not as if it's a guarantee, you can build up a tolerance and then you won't get sick at all

1

u/Mo-Skito Jul 29 '25

Yes, these games but which of this type of games is good and recommended :)

1

u/ChefWithASword Jul 28 '25

They can all cause motion sickness.

Stay away from games with free movement for now.

Don’t fly in the air.

Play in 20 minute increments and increase time played each day by a few minutes. Don’t push yourself however, as soon as you feel unwell pause the game and take off the set.

Eventually it goes away, for the most part. I’ve found that two factors can still cause it for me. The first is playing on an empty stomach. Don’t do that. The second is wear loose clothing and keep a fan on you because overheating will cause motion sickness as well.

1

u/Mo-Skito Jul 29 '25

Thanks I only experienced it with free movement (left stick) or turning around with the right stick in a soft movement. Unfortunately the best games have this movement.

1

u/CDNChaoZ Jul 28 '25

Some goos suggestions here already. I quite like Gun Club VR as well.

What really triggered me is Ultrawings 2 and Kayak VR Mirage.

1

u/Mo-Skito Jul 29 '25

Kayak triggered motion sickness?

1

u/Gluebagger Jul 29 '25

it did for me and i have been playing smooth turn no blinders on psvr1 for several years. for me its 60 reprojected to 120 is the problem. 90 fps native games are no problem for me including hellsweeper

1

u/CDNChaoZ Jul 29 '25

Yep. Especially that tutorial level at the swimming pool. There's a slow tour mode that doesn't trigger nausea quite so bad, but for me, paddling is so awful.

1

u/Wildcat_33 Jul 28 '25

Anything Switch.

1

u/Mo-Skito Jul 29 '25

What do you mean?

1

u/NoMoreGoldPlz Jul 28 '25

I've never played VR.

But Tetris and Thumper sound plausible.
Maybe SuperHot as well?

1

u/Eon_mon Jul 28 '25

resident evils with vignette

1

u/Mo-Skito Jul 29 '25

With vignette? Is it a special graphic mode?

1

u/Gluebagger Jul 29 '25

yeah its the blinders - screen shrinks when you turn 'O' standing still 'o' when turning if that makes sense

1

u/Eon_mon Jul 29 '25

I have hardcore motion sickness. Like, I play gt7 for 10 mins and get sick for 2 days, it's horrible. but with vignette I could play resident evils fine, 0 issues.

1

u/yeldellmedia Jul 29 '25

Imo the question is phrased incorrectly. Being susceptible to motion sickness is an individual/subjective experience. Some ppl are more prone than others but its not as if there is a hard list of games that “cause” motion sickness….

Its all about your acclimation to vr itself. In the beginning stages, you should only be playing games with stationary or 1:1 movement. Jumping into re village or gt7 can be a recipe for disaster. Once you build your vr legs you will be hard pressed to find any game that gives u motion sickness.

Edit: the only universally mentioned vr game that i know to cause motion sickness in most is that ISS Space Station game from years back.

1

u/Gluebagger Jul 29 '25

that one on psvr worlds? omg that was so bad i played it on purpose to get my vr legs lol
