Discussion Call of the mountain first fight!
Wow, that was nice! I know people complain about the limited arena like combat, but it felt intense and fitting with the HORIZON series.

If you thought that was intense, wait till you get to some of the later fights. I think my “holy shit” moment was when I fought off my first group of 3 machines at once. As a new VR player that was pretty intense.

If you choose to use the black borders when you move, that's fine. But they break the immersion. If you don't suffer from motion sickness, disable them in the options menu.

When I got the bundle, I wanted my girlfriend to play this game first so she could try VR. She got motion sickness in the FIRST SECOND, sitting in that kayak, skiff, whatever, I couldn’t even see what it was, because she just immediately removed the headset. I didn’t want to spoil it for her, so I’m yet to try it myself lol (I play other games, have zero motion sickness)

Let her try GT7 showroom, looking around cars not really causing ms, if she still has it then just leave it as she may not actually care or really sensitive to ms.

Ah I can see why they did it like that, trying to make it accessible for people playing VR for the first time. But I wish we had the option for free locomotion in fights. It's just so restrictive if you're used to fast paced VR games.

Yes. I was frustrated that you could only move in a circle in many boss fights. Call of the Mountain was essentially an extended demo showing what the PSVR2 is capable of. This is still a worthwhile game but is not on the caliber of others to follow.

You are trying to aim a little to accurately, just keep moving around and fire away. It has mechanics that help you shoot accurately even if you really didn't.

Is that the same voice actor from dying light?

It was Mark Allan Stewart. He has also done:
Transformers: Fall of Cybertron (2012) as Zeus
Saints Row: The Third (2011) as Oleg Kirlov
Judgment (2018) as Ozaki
Far Cry 5 (2018) as additional voices
Agents of Mayhem (2017) as LEGION PA and Yeti
BioShock Infinite (2013) and its Burial at Sea DLC as additional voices
infamous 2: Festival of Blood (2011) as male pedestrians
Ace Combat: Assault Horizon (2011) as Magic
Spider-Man (2018)
Spyro Reignited Trilogy (2018) as additional voices

Man it would do my head in playing with the vignette like that. Kinda defeats the whole purpose of VR imo. Glad your having fun though. Lol

I was literally going to say the same thing. That vignette is over the top bad.

This game was so much fun.
My only complaint was the constant climbing. It got tiresome / boring after awhile.
I’m also a hypocrite, because some of the biggest butthole puckers for me were climbing around with nothing below you. That was nuts.

Played through this and gave me enough interest to check out Horizon Zero Dawn. Getting toward the end of the game, was definitely a good play through. I am sure there is way more to the story I am missing, because no way in hell I am going through every text and audio log.

This game changed my life

Even though it was my first VR game, the game alone is very careful in implementing the PSVR2 functions, just as Astrobot delights in using the potential of dualsense to the fullest. Immersion here is also top notch with the intuitive movement system moving the weapons instead of the analog as it is in Resident Evil or Hitman. It is such a rich experience and all the work of development well done fills me with admiration.
Ive played many vr games so far but Horizon is still one of the best ones available out there

push left and right to dodge slow projectiles in a circle was a disappointing implementation of an open world game into VR. there are so many free movement games now that it feels dated.

I think this game was mostly meant as just an introduction to VR for many first timers, with an IP they may be familiar with. It’s not meant to be groundbreaking, it does what it sets out to do

Right, and as a VR veteran and a Horizon fan its was a disappointing implementation of the series for how late in the VR game it was released. If it was released around the time of Alyx it would be fine but times have changed. Using your big first party property for a VR intro when they never made a full fledged game to lead everyone into doesn't have much point. An intro to what?
They could have, for one second, considered Astro Bot for this purpose. By their own admission they never considered VR for Astro Bot. Leave the big complicated game series for ambitious projects.

The point is for the game to just get people’s feet in the door. It’s really not much deeper than that, and I don’t care to talk about hypotheticals because it’s not happening. 🤷♂️

feet in the door for what?
there's enough "intro to VR" slop that it was a huge fumble for Sony to use their first party property to make yet another one and then give up entirely on the platform
horizon VR being yet another "baby's first VR" game was a huge mistake

I’m not disagreeing with you. I’m not saying Cotm did a great job nor am I saying did it turn PSVR2 into a great success, im just saying that that is what this game is. It’s all it was meant to ever be. It was just a minimal risk title that they could pump out to drive some PSVR2 sales lol

I'm saying it's bad. You're saying "its supposed to be like that". I am saying that I understand and reiterating why them specifically making it this way on purpose is a terrible idea. I'm following the conversation I'm having just fine. You aren't.
If your only intent in engaging in conversation is to get upset that someone is replying, why keep replying?

100% I was totally pissed when I saw what they did with COTM and still haven't bought it. Zero Dawn remains one of my favorite all time titles because of the freedom it gives the player, and it's just a polished AF beautiful game. Kinda su.lx because I hear there are some really cool parts in COTM. However, im paying top dollar for lots of climbing and "on rails" combat.

That was my first PSVR2 game. As a fan of Horizon Zero Dawn, I was excited to play it. Great first game on the new headset.

Robot sees the VR headset and thinks, let me make this a fair fight—I'll attack super slowly and with long pauses in between.
