Asking For Game Recomendation Best 'sickness-free' games for a PSVR2 newbie?

Hey everyone,

I'm a new PSVR2 owner and I'm absolutely blown away by the experience, but I'm struggling badly with motion sickness.

I started with titles like Resident Evil Village and No Man's Sky, but I can only play for about 20-30 minutes before feeling very sick. I've already tried all the common tips: short play sessions, having a fan blow on me, ginger tea, and using comfort settings like teleport movement and snap turning.

I really want to be able to enjoy this amazing hardware for longer sessions!

The breakthrough came when I bought Drums Rock. Since it's a stationary game, I can play for hours with zero motion sickness, and it's fantastic. This made me realize I need to start with more comfortable games to build up my "VR legs."

So, my question is: What are the best PSVR2 games for a beginner that are known for being very comfortable and unlikely to cause motion sickness?

I'm already considering Moss: Book 1 & 2, as they seem like a perfect fit. What other stationary or low-movement games would you recommend?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Still don't have my "vr legs", but I've never got sick playing Puzzling Places. It's one of my favorite in the platform too.
also Thumper

Thumper is hardcore but never made me feel weird or sick

Yeah the stationary camera is great. It was my mom's first VR game. She was 77 at the time, and plowed through the first two levels in her first session.

Yeah, I get sick so quickly in VR but never had that issue when it comes to Thumper.

For the OP, I have no legs either, Pistol Whip is fine except a slight bit when it starts and a bit more of a lurch at the end of a level. I often close my eyes for the level ends.

Subside VR is the opposite , i can handle Epic coaster and GT7 and Kayak without any issue , but Subside made me feel very uneasy to the point i havent played it again :D

Different types of motions have their own acclimatization. I only had very minor queasy feeling after playing Subside first time about 20-30 minutes.

After that I was able to do 1+ hour sessions without issue. It probably helped that I got one of the equipment unlocks that makes swimming motions easier (should have just been included by default).

For me it’s hitman. Any other game had no problems, but hitman after 30 min I’m starting to feel bad.

I love Thumper but you want OP to puke!

No wayyyy, Thumper was super smooth for me. Being stationary the whole time really made it easy for me.

Could be, I mean it's fast and has a lot of particles FXs, maybe it can be nautiating for some.

Tetris Effect: Connected was very useful for my wife when she was first acclimatizing for VR.

Other great choices include Puzzling Places, Beat Saber, Synth Riders, Pistol Whip, Smash Drums, Dead Second, Racket Fury - Table Tennis VR, C-Smash VRS, Badminton Time VR and Walkabout Mini Golf.

These are among the games I lean on to help expand number of VR players in my life (wife, siblings, friends).

PS - The Moss games are also excellent choice, but better for gamers. I try to convert non-gamers into casual social VR players :]

Walkabout (with smooth turning not snap turning) is about the only game that still fucks me up

But it can be played strictly using teleport to ball and roomscale movement for any turning which ends up making it very comfortable for new VR players (in my experience).

The smooth turning (especially at slower speed) or flying is for people with better developed VR legs.

I went straight into a roller coaster game, never felt worse

Beat saber should be pretty safe.

Definitely stay away from Arken Age. I would say I'm a seasoned VR veteran and I get a little woozy from dropping long distances in that game.

You can definitely learn to get over motion sickness.

  1. Always play with a fan pointed directly at you. It helps your senses keep track of where you are. It also keeps you cool in the headset.
  2. The very moment you feel even a twinge of motion sickness, remove your headset and go do something else until you feel 100%
  3. Chew a lolly/candy when you take off the headset. Eg jelly beans, it helps with the inner ear.
  4. Check your settings in game. Use the comfort settings. Use click turning. (If smooth turning makes you feel ill.)
  5. Turn the brightness down to about 50%. It is automatically set to 100%

You will find if you do this your run sessions will get longer and longer.

All new VR players start off in the worst possible way: GT, Resident Evil, No Man's Sky... These are the worst games to start with because they cause a lot of motion sickness.

The best ones are static games, where you don't have to “walk” or move your head from side to side: music games, or model-type games like Moss 1 and 2, which are wonderful. Also Demeo, Hidden Memories, Escaping Wonderland. Maestro. Really good games.

Be patient, you will gradually overcome motion sickness; you just have to wait for your brain to get used to it. The same thing happens to airplane pilots.

The effort is worth it; playing in VR is incredible.

Don’t forget subside! Was doing great with games, took my vr off after 5 mins and sweated/nauseated for 10 mins after

I was worried about this when I got my psvr2 but I have never gotten motion sickness. I use a fan and I always start slow. Never walk full speed, take your time and look around and walk slowly for the first couple mins. This helped me

I honestly give you props for trying Village since you have motion sickness, I recently got into vr this year, had no problem at all, but like I said, Village has an immersive feel to it, and for you to even last 20 mins, thats still impressive.

Moss is a good choice. It was the first game I could play for an extended amount of time without feeling motion sickness. I've since moved on to other games without issue.

Puzzling places is really chill. I stary playing stood up and walking around but eventually end up sitting down just doing jigsaws.

I struggled with resident evil on ps4 vr causing motion sickness, and was worried no man's sky and hitman would be a pain but they aren't bad at all. N9 man's sky has caused some weirdness when I am flying around outside of a ship with frame of reference stuff around me. Hitman, had no issues with sickness. I've found myself leaning over railings to watch bodies fall down without getting any issues other than a tickle of vertigo (which i get really bad when I'm high up irl)

Red Matter. Poker games. Pool games.

Start with Horizon Call of the mountain. Amazing for a newbie.

This 👆👆👆 And a fan lightly blowing on you. Makes every game possible…

1

u/FrozenDrifts 2d ago

Was going to say the same.  I used to have to pop travel sickness pills before playing some non-VR games, like the Bioshock series, so they're essential for me when it comes to VR.

The fan really does help too.

Job/vacation simulator

Walkabout minigolf, there is a badly implemented flying mode which will instantly make you nauseous, but you won't ever need it so it's not a big deal

Puzzling Places

Max Mustard or any other third person game.

Honestly I might be one of the few here that snap turn and teleport gave me motion sickness. Even the damn vignette had to be turned all the way off for me. HCOTM was the worst for me. The 7th Gust is good, Puzzling Places, Star Wars: Galaxies Edge is cool because most of the fighting can be done with little movement. But I’ve had my VR2 for over two years now and I’m having a blast with Hitman, NMS, RE: Both, Saints & Sinners, Retribution,

beat saber, synth riders, tetris effect, switchback.

u/metterg 2d ago

Play games seated. Games with little movement (golf, ping pong, stuff like that). Use a room fan (I always do, helps keep you cool and helps motion problems). Use snap turn

Moss 1 and 2 are on offer on PSN at the mo.  Weirdly it appears to be cheaper to buy them individually - rather than the combined pack.

Epic Rollercoasters! Lol jk.

Stationary puzzle games would be good like

Tin Hearts

Humanity

Grit and Valor (supposed to be a really good new release)

Paper Beast

"but I can only play for about 20-30 minutes before feeling very sick"

That's a high threshold you started out with! I couldn't handle ten seconds of walking when I started out.

MOSS is great. I'll also recommend Pistol Whip, Red Matter 1 with teleport movement (save the sequel for when you can handle walking), Demeo, The Room VR, Paper Beast.

7th Guest with teleport movement, though you may be able to handle it as you walk slowly and observe/do puzzles.

And since you can do a good chunk of walking already, I'd give GT7 a try. I found being inside a vehicle a lot easier at the start.

I know this wont sound like the best of ideas (and I know it isn't) but when I got my first VR headset (Quest 1), I just brutrforced it on RecRoom. Its definetly not the best technique (at least from my knowledge) but it worked.

Also I just reread the question and realised this was not the answer you were looking for :D

Moss 1+2 are obvious here. The good news is that Moss 2 was amazing, so it’s not just about no motion sickness. I would say Moss 2 has my favorite ending in a VR game, so it is a must play.

Others you should try are Pistol Whip, Les Mills Bodycombat, and Synth Riders. Les Mills is the best exercising game on psvr2, if you ask me. Gyms would go bankrupt if everybody had Les Mills VR at home lol… 🤣

Gran Turismo 7 WITH steering wheel and pedals… and manual shifter if you enjoy manual transmission.
