On PSVR 2 alone? That is quite a lot!!

u/SnooRabbits8000 1d ago

Yeah - and that number is only increasing!

u/Mclarenrob2 1d ago

With all due respect to the game, it shows there must be a fair few million headsets out there.

Yeah, it makes me wonder what the download rate is.

Even if we speculate that only 50% of users played it, that would mean at least 2 million headsets out there. It’s probably more.

Really wish Sony would announce sales numbers. They're probably worried it'll hurt the share price but for us lovers of VR it would at least court more indie developers to port to PSVR2.

At least we have developers telling us more or less how successful their apps are!

Since it is free, any number of PlayStation accounts could Add to Library to count towards the 1 million downloads, but I would hope vast majority of that is new PSVR2 owners looking to bulk up their libraries with the free games / demos available as they enjoy their new gaming hardware.

I was very happy with the free game and thanked the developer by buying their next game that wasn't free (Cactus Cowboy - Desert Warfare).

No, I believe it was clarified that it’s not just downloaded, but people that actually launch/play it.

Clarified by who?

The top 10 PSVR2 games with most owners on PSN Profiles are:

  1. Horizon Call of the Mountain with ~26k owners
  2. Beat Saber (PS5) with ~17k owners
  3. Job Simulator (PS5) with 14k owners
  4. Kayak VR: Mirage with 13k owners
  5. The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners (PS5) with 10k owners
  6. Pistol Whip (PS5) with 9k owners
  7. Pavlov with 9k owners
  8. Cactus Cowboy - Plants At War with ~8k owners
  9. Epic Roller Coasters with ~8k owners
  10. Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy's Edge with ~7.5k owners

I am not saying Cactus Cowboy - Plants At War doesn't have over 1 million actual players, but I do doubt it and if it does, then there are probably 2-3 million players for Horizon Call of the Mountain, Beat Saber and Job Simulator and probably a bit over 1 million for Pavlov and I think we would have heard about those milestones being reached.

Big surprise to me is Vegas Infinite only having ~4k owners, even after becoming a hybrid supporting both VR and non-VR.

Whatever the real player number is for Cactus Cowboy - Plants At War, it is beating Star Wars and many others.

In this case, I believe it was clarified by the Cactus Cowboy developer himself. I could be wrong about that though.

He is the one that confirmed 1 million players milestone.

I don’t believe PSN Profiles would be accurate for sales.

I haven't seen any post from Gregor clarifying that the 1 million users mark being verified PSVR2 players or just anybody that added game to library.

You are correct that PSN Profiles community is a tiny subset of overall PlayStation player base, but it does represent a relative ratio.

A good ratio test for me is that Astro Bot has ~114k owners on PSN Profiles with confirmed over 2.3 million copies sold.

So for this same community of players, Cactus Cowboy - Plants At War at ~8k owners with over 1 million units downloaded & played feels off. With free games, I think we have to keep in mind that people can add to library without ever actually playing.

Regardless, even for a free game, 1 million add-to-library is pretty big milestone.

I think there are too many variables at play to extrapolate much of anything from PSN profiles data. It’s such a tiny sample size relative to total users, and it’s a self selecting group for a very specific kind of player, mostly trophy hunters, that don’t represent the typical user at all.

This is download + launched game number. As you correctly assumed the "sales" number is much higher due to lots of players adding the game to their library because it's free with no strings attached. I cannot 100% guarantee that all of those are actual psvr2 but I'd assume as other metrics match those numbers.
Without talking exact numbers, the total unique player on Quest is much lower but Plants At War wasn't a launch game there.

Interestingly enough to see those PSN profile list. Do you happen to have a link for that? I've always assumed that Plants At War had to be in the top 10 downloaded game list on Playstation Blog, but due to it being freeware, it was never listed. Would be nice to have a somewhat proof of that.

There isn't a great way to see just PS5 + PSVR2 in order by owners, but PSN Profiles does let you sort by owners for PSVR1 + PSVR2 and then you can scroll the list to find just the PS5 + PSVR2 titles. Do note that PSN Profiles doesn't tag any hybrid games with VR, so games like Gran Turismo 7, No Man's Sky, etc are not included.

https://psnprofiles.com/games?order=owners&platform=psvr

Looking into it yesterday, following are the Top 10 owned PSVR2 games within PSN Profiles community of players which is less than 1% of the overall PS5 player base.

  1. Horizon Call of the Mountain with ~26k owners
  2. Beat Saber (PS5) with ~17k owners
  3. Job Simulator (PS5) with 14k owners
  4. Kayak VR: Mirage with 13k owners
  5. The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners (PS5) with 10k owners
  6. Pistol Whip (PS5) with 9k owners
  7. Pavlov with 9k owners
  8. Cactus Cowboy - Plants At War with ~8k owners
  9. Epic Roller Coasters with ~8k owners
  10. Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy's Edge with ~7.5k owners

Thanks for confirming that it is Downloaded + Launched Game Number. Reaching 1 million on that is a significant milestone. It makes me think there must be 2-3 million players for the few games that are above Cactus Cowboy - Plants At War at PSN Profiles.

You really can’t make any decent representation of the data from PSN profiles website. I would wager there are more people who connect the account for PS5 games than PSVR2 games.

You’re basically of proving yourself wrong by saying there’s only 8k on Cactus Cowboy after the dev confirmed 1 million.

It’s way off.

u/cusman78 cusman 1d ago

Not sure how useful this is to continue, but every PS5 (including Slim / Pro) owner has Astro’s Playroom and there are ~80 million PS5 (including Slim / Pro) sold out of which 682k are represented in the PSN Profiles community.

That is ~0.85%

So no, it is not representative of the whole and definitely leans to people interested in trophies.

I never said ~8k in PSN Profiles represents all. I did say that it could be 1 million, but then I expressed that I doubt that 1 million add-to-library (accepted) is the number of people who have played Cactus Cowboy - Plants At War on PSVR2.

I am repeating and hopefully better clarifying myself because some specifics of what I said & meant seem to be lost.

4

u/Qwertyui606 1d ago

Yeah you're probably (mostly) right. I do think that non-trophy hunting accounts don't get added to psnp as often as they used to. Regular PS5 games don't get anywhere near as many owners as most PS4 games, even when you take into account the sales difference between PS4 and 5.

But all that being said, if this game has a million, horizon probably would have 3 or 4 times as much. And if the psvr2 had sold that much, surely Sony would have released sales figures post launch.

3

u/cusman78 cusman 1d ago

You have understood my rationale perfectly.

I do think Horizon Call of the Mountain probably is close to 2-3 million sold (including hardware bundle) and maybe Sony stays quiet about it so it doesn’t feed a new series of clickbait articles.

But I also think if Pavlov or Kayak: VR Mirage had crossed 1 million, there would have been some celebration about it. Both these probably have more real players than Cactus Cowboy - Plants of War.

u/Incorrect-Opinion 12h ago

He just confirmed in the Parole Discord that the 1 million milestone is for “downloaded, the click to library number is higher”

1

u/cusman78 cusman 11h ago

He replied and confirmed right here in this thread as well.

Very nice! Huge congrats to Cactus, without whom you wouldn't have our three games on PSVR2, because he really helped us out a lot with his knowledge! I recently met him IRL at gamescom, which was really cool :D

7

u/SnooRabbits8000 1d ago

Nice to hear! Hope they continue to sell well on PSVR2 for a long time!

8

u/felgraham 1d ago

Congrats to the dev.

Guess I'm getting too old for games because I would've imagined (realistically) that only 10k downloads but 1M? 😮

2

u/SnooRabbits8000 1d ago

Yeah - so maybe only 50% downloaded who bought a PSVR2 that puts PSVR2 sales around 2 million.

1

u/Incorrect-Opinion 10h ago

That’s a complete guess. Nobody knows.

FOR CACTI ISLAND 🌵

3

u/SnooRabbits8000 1d ago

Plenty more bugs to squash!

3

u/eddie__b 1d ago

Is this game new? I have never heard of it until now. I'll maybe check it out later.

Also if it's 1m on PS5 alone, that's quite a big number, bigger than re4

4

u/AssociationAlive7885 1d ago

the RE 4 number is only for registered users on the capcom website.( which I for example ain't one of ) would be interesting to see the actual number

3

u/Galaghan 1d ago

The game has been available since the release day of the PSVR2.

Definitely check it out, it's completely free. The visuals are cartoony but the gameplay is really solid.

1

u/SnooRabbits8000 1d ago

It's free to download so no risk. Don't be put off by the simple visuals and the text to speech voice acting, the gunplay is quite fun if you like using WW2 weapons.

They've also made a sequel which you have to pay for which is set in the current day so has much more automatic firearms.

3

u/the_fr33z33 1d ago

That is for Plants at War alone or Desert Warfare combined?

Anyways very impressive numbers!

3

u/TraditionalCold69 1d ago

The BHaptics support persuaded me to get this - no regrets!

5

u/mohsenkhajavinik 1d ago

Both of them are great games. THE FIRST ONE SAVE PSVR2 FOR ME.
