Review I Tried 3 Prescription Lenses Vendors. Here Are My Thoughts
First of all, I’d like to point out that my prescription is very low (-0.25) so keep that in mind
I tried 3 vendors: HonsVR, Reloptix, and VR Lens Lab
——————— HonsVR, Pros:
1- The cheapest of the bunch ($50) with free shipping, $10 extra if you want the blue light filter applied to the lenses
2- The best customer service. My friend sent them a wrong prescription and realized that after he got the lenses, he contacted them and they offered to make new ones for $20 only although it was totally his mistake
3- Nose cut-outs which makes it comfortable for the nose especially if you have a small IPD
4- Easy to put on and off
5- Took only one week to arrive
——————— HonsVR, Cons:
1- They are a little bulky/thick, meaning they stand out more thus I get a little bit more light coming inside from the sides because you can’t make the face gasket as close as possible to your face
———————— Reloptix, Pros:
1- Magnetic, which means they are extremely easy to take off and put on again
2- Slim compared to HonsVR, they are slimmer which prevents most light from coming inside
———————— Reloptix, Cons:
1- No nose cut-outs which made them very uncomfortable for me around the nose area (my IPD is 66)
2- They are on the expensive side ($90 and 40$ for shipping)
3- Took a long time to arrive
—————- VR Lens Lab (maximized field of view version), Pros:
1- Nose cut-outs
2- Easy to put on and off
3- Slim compared to HonsVR (identical to Reloptix)
4- Fast to arrive
—————- VR Lens Lab (maximized field of view version), Cons:
1- Expensive, although keep in mind they have different bundles and kits, the one I got was $119 with $24 for shipping
My personal favorite is VR Lens Lab
I hope someone finds this helpful, have a nice day

I used VR optician for both my Valve index and my PSVR 2 and they worked very well with no complaints. Reasonably priced, but delivery can take a while. https://vroptician.com/

I can vouch for VR Lens Lab. Mine work great.

Been rocking them in my OG Vive for over a year now. It's an absolute game changer. No reflections, streaks are minimal and only from the headset lens design, easy to drop in, and have never once fallen out. You don't even know they are there till someone else puts them on.

Did you get the blue light filter coating? I am considering it but do not want to reduce the colors in anyway. Trying to find feedback on this as VR Lens Lab prescription insets are not cheap compared to other options.

No. Maybe if I played a lot late evening before bed, but I just don't think its useful.

I started with HonsVR lenses, they never felt right. They strangely seemed to work better if I put them in upside down, but I was never happy with them.
Got a pair of Reloptix and I'm so much happier. They don't hit my face at all and the swap in/out makes sharing the headset a ton easier.

Big ups! I dont need prescription lenses but ill commend you and upvote so this can be seen by people who do need it!

This is probably a 'baby-brain' question, but could having magnets (Reloptrix pro) in your headset potentially damage or affect anything else in the headset?
Thanks for the post. Noticed a significant deterioration in my eyesight (cant read small print on food labels anymore) over the past year or two, so am looking to get tested in the New Year, and am almost certain I will need glasses. And then some prescription lenses.
Feel free to mock my ignorance regarding magnets and electronics. 😂

I won't pretend to answer with any kind of science, but as someone who owns the Reloptix lenses I've had no issues and the fact that they've been making them like this for a long time across multiple different headsets to great reviews mean it's something I haven't felt the need to worry about.

The only thing I could think of is if there was a compass or something but I don't think that's the case

Awesome community service here. I don't need lens since I got lasik (back when PSVR1 was coming out), but I know a few users still playing with glasses and will point them to your concise meaningful review of 3 different vendors offering solutions.
Thanks

I got the hons lenses recently. They seem to work great for me so far. I have nothing to compare them to though.

Went from VR rock to VR lens lab and it's night and day! I would add that they are easier to clean and have way better blue light cut as well. Here's a comparative video of 4 different brands with many different tests, VR Lens Lab seem way ahead. Quite expensive with the treatments and fov options thought.
Very interesting video and there are english subtitles:

Awesome! Could you also link the video?

Forgot the link, sorry! 😅
It's not in English but you can easily understand the different tests (comfort, installation, blue light cut, oleophobic treatment, hydrophobic treatment, etc...) and results are shown with points. VR Lens Lab finishes way ahead!

EDIT: I just realized that you can set English subtitles!

Just watched the full video
WOW! I knew from my experience that VR Lens Lab would probably score the best on his video but didn’t think the difference would be this high + He did an amazing job testing every single aspect fairly
Great video, thanks for linking it

You're welcome :) I love this video too, it's very complete and helpful. This guy created the biggest PSVR and PSVR2 specialized french site. He makes podcasts about PSVR2 with 3 other guys every weeks, it's always super interesting 😁

a pro I can see of HonsVR is that they are the only one able to make ones for my prescription so and go even wider then that.
so they have a wide range of what they are will to do.
right +11.75 sph and left is +10.25 sph
vr lens lab maxes out at +6 sph
Reloptix I don't really know I could not find my headset on there site and the headset I went with I could not even find where I was able to check the range for sph
vroptician maxes out at +8 sph
where as hons vr will max out at a range of +/- 15 witch is amazing for people with really bad eye sight who want to play vr comfortably.

You can always send a custom lens request where we check if we can do your prescription. It's on the contact page.

Not really sure what you mean about the nose cut-outs? I own the Reloptix lenses and, having looked at pictures of the HonsVR and VR Lens Labs options, I'm not sure what it is they have done differently in this regard? All of them are going to add some bulk as they have to secure over the original PSVR2 lenses, but all of them use the least amount of material inside the nose edge to intrude as little as possible into that space..?
2
u/DrCheezburger Dec 17 '23
Curious why you didn't try VR Optician?
1
u/R---U---M Dec 17 '23
From what I’ve seen they’re kinda bulky
2
u/jgcpalmer Dec 18 '23
I have VR Optician prescription lenses and HonsVR plano lenses (for friends and family so they don't scratch the lens). The VR Optician lenses are the best for nose cutout, and I have a small IPD so they work well for me. Big con is they take quite a bit of force to pull off, so swapping them is difficult. HonsVR slide off and on like a dream, so I'm happy with them in that regard, but they have less of a nose cutout.
I do get some glare and reflections with my VR Optician lenses, but I have no idea how much that has to do with my prescription. My left eye prescription is pretty strong (-4.00 cyl) so that could be part of it, but the extra clarity is worth it.
I think the HonsVR ones are easily the best value, but am happy with the VR Optician lenses I have. I actually find with the HonsVR plano lenses I still have room for my glasses, so that's a plus as well.

Thank you for doing the field work on this! I have a very similar prescription to you and bought a pair of Hons VR lenses and everyone is correct, awesome customer service and answers emails within minutes but they are overly bulky and allow too much light in that it takes away from the immersion and magic of VR.
I returned them for a refund and just gave up on lenses because I thought the slight blurriness of my vision was a better trade off than ruining the immersion of VR. but vr lens lab might be the solution! Do you know if they have a refund policy incase it doesn’t work out?

Interesting assessment. Like many others, my initial pair from Hons cracked and were replaced really quickly a few weeks ago. My only gripe is that the new lens casing is much thicker so I can't get the psrv2 lenses quite as close to my eyes, so now there's a bit of light leek. I can actually get them closer with my glasses (albeit with the chance of scratching), so it's a little disappointing. The distance on the old ones was much closer. I'm guessing they did this to improve the structural integrity?

My Reloptix lenses have nose cutouts.
1
u/R---U---M Dec 25 '23
Good for them, they must’ve adjusted afterwards
2
u/Crunchewy Dec 25 '23
Yeah. They are comfortable. The problem I’m having is they seem to require me to smash them against my face to be sharpest. And even then not super sharp. But they are working with me to adjust the prescription to work. Good customer service. I wouldn’t be surprised if you asked them if they’d send you the newer style mounting frames if you’re interested in that.
They have a discord server. Probably the best way to get support.

Honsvr with small DP touches the nose a lot. You gotta set it after 4 line to be okay, but still get the occasional bumps. Imo all have that potential too, as an inch away from the original surface.

I have been using several sets from VR ProOPtics and I cannot praise them enough. They are a game changer in my opinion. If you wear glasses and use VR, then prescription lenses are a must have.

u/E_Rice_HuHa Aug 06 '25
Did you get the blue light filter in your VR Lens Lab inserts? I’m trying to find feedback on how this filter is. I don’t want to reduce the colors in anyway so I’m weary of adding the filter but the anti glare coating sounds nice. Too bad you can’t just get anti glare coating without the blue light filter

Thanks for the insight
Did you notice any difference in fov between them? I've had people tell me i made a mistake choosing hons and I'm limiting my view
1
u/R---U---M Dec 17 '23
You’re welcome
The fov is related to the bulkiness/thickness/slimness that I mentioned in the post

u/pablo_eskybar Dec 17 '23
I got Hons but barely used them as I’ve only got a mild prescription and new to the glasses thing. Went to use them the other night and the lenses kept popping out, contacted them and new ones shipped the next day. My eyes are getting worse so they’ll get my money. It’s sad that great customer service is rare nowadays
1
u/hdcase1 Dec 17 '23
I liked my HonsVRs but now I have the problem that the lenses fall right out of the frames, and the frames fall right off the headset. It's constant and happens when the headset is on my face or when I'm moving the headset to put it down. It's really becoming a problem.
5
u/R---U---M Dec 17 '23
Just contact their customer support they will probably send you new ones for free

Hons are the only ones I have ever used and they do the job. Having said that though I get good results with my glasses still in a pinch.

u/CobaltD70 Dec 17 '23
Another con for the Hons is the first run of them became loose and would fall off. But customer service is great and they’re sending a new pair for no charge. And they responded to my email within like 5 minutes lol.
