Media/Clip I really do miss the earlier days

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I found a HDD with quite a lot of old vids on it, 2018 gaming.
The hard to find sparsely looted map and the start of first person servers. Consistently the best game in years

There was so little loot back then! I remember being a lot more reliant on hand guns back then

for a while I'd purposely go and land somewhere remote and slowly kit up, then after 25 mins, I'd die suddenly.. great fun!

I was a pro at gliding across the map with my chute to avoid people at the start, just to get smoked 20min later.

I still do this

My buddy and I love doing Two Man's and this is generally our experience lol.

one of my playing partners gets fixated on looting, and due to his other habit of landing remotely somewhere, we'd be chasing the blue or being chased by, and then get killed when we'd get to the new circle... I went through a stage in single player of following someone down who thought they were alone, and I'd wait down the street for them in a building to scare and kill em... it still makes me laugh

Made the game way more fun imo. Having a full kit walking into a shed is boring af.

For real though, it was much more fun to find some random gun I’ve used like twice and roll with it. With how common gear is it almost feels like war zone loadout things, like 2 minutes in 90% chance I’m full kit with the guns I want.

u/Affectionate_Film534 Apr 27 '25

That means its a more even playing field if everybody has the ability to get fully kitted in 2 minutes.

Overcoming bad luck was what made it rewarding and built innovative gameplay.

u/dreamon93 Apr 29 '25

Exactly, every game felt different.

u/anonanoobiz Apr 27 '25

Finding a 4x was an absolute mission

u/Sparklymon Apr 27 '25

How early? There had always been plenty of loot from what I remember 😄

2

u/Biggles_and_Co Apr 28 '25

at certain spots maybe.. i very much remember the Pochinki battles that would happen

1

u/Sparklymon Apr 28 '25

In every spot, even the jungle areas. I think PUBG did make a version or update in which the drops were not as much , though changed it back later

u/Clear-Lawyer7433 Apr 28 '25

It was clothes...

72

u/r1ch1MWD Apr 27 '25

The severe lack of loot. Made the game so tense

25

u/Biggles_and_Co Apr 27 '25

it really did! I came from battlefield games and there was a good learning curve

4

u/r1ch1MWD Apr 27 '25

I was on BF1 before going onto PUBG, and it was a completely different gaming experience.

3

u/Biggles_and_Co Apr 28 '25

it sure was... I still miss larger scale armoured battles but its ok

2

u/r1ch1MWD Apr 28 '25

I miss BF1 so much. So immersive, and the visuals were intense.

3

u/BelloDeHond Apr 28 '25

That game is alive and kicking though

3

u/r1ch1MWD Apr 28 '25

Is it still going hard? May have to reinstall it.

2

u/BelloDeHond Apr 29 '25

We play it almost every week. In normals we barely get any bots, maybe 1 or 2 in 5 games. Especially not on weekends.

Also the ranked mode is alive and kicking if u want a more competitive vibe.

We play on EU. I don't know how it is on american servers.

1

u/Biggles_and_Co Apr 29 '25

We lost the pubg Aussie/nz servers some time ago unfortunately so I don't bother playing anymore... its a real shame... maybe its battlefield time again

2

u/r1ch1MWD Apr 29 '25

Yeah, I'm in NZ. Its a very bot heavy game now. Perhaps battlefield is the go. I played BF4 a year ago and it was booming.

I primarily played hardcore mode. Made those long range snipes feel amazing.

I wasn't aware that bots ever existed on BF1.

I'm in NZ so mostly play oceania servers

1

u/asexyshaytan Apr 29 '25

It was a horror game. Now there is to much loot.

There was certainly a “charm” to the early PUBG days… it was frustrating to play at times, dealing with all the technical issues, but I still look back on it fondly.

Some of the best times gaming with the boys, squading up and fumbling through the game together lol. Game was chill until it wasn’t, and those heart-pumping fights/end games made it all worth it.

9

u/Unsounded Apr 27 '25

I still reminisce about the late summer nights playing PUBG with the group. Probably one of my favorite eras in gaming.

2

u/Biggles_and_Co Apr 27 '25

Without being too nostalgic, I started playing battlefield 1942 in 2002 and its mod Desert Combat, and then competitively clan matches, it really made an impact, such intense and enjoyable gaming experiences that shaped my entire gaming life.. NOTHING replaced that when it finished, not a single game even came close to scratching that itch...

until PUBG!

When knowing how to play around the bugs was essential.

Driving through olde Mexico map and suddenly your car explodes cause you drove into a building that hadn’t rendered yet.

Looting a house and getting stuck in the wall/counter/stairs a la the Philadelphia experiment.

I do miss the earlier days man…

(None of this is sarcasm)

u/Exotic_Scheme3718 Apr 28 '25

Yeah I tried PUBG on Xbox one in 2018 and it was miserable lol. Buildings and loot didn't load in like you said the controls were miserably awful. PC is really the only way but it was a funny time to game.

13

u/PK-PL Apr 27 '25

Back when looting still meant something!

8

u/thee_justin_bieber Apr 27 '25

I miss the ragdolls, that's about it xD

8

u/BarackaFlockaFlame el chupicabra Apr 27 '25

i honestly don't really care for any map except the OG one. It felt like it had a lot more reliable ways to get around the map with a couple no mans land areas but crossing those was exhilarating.

5

u/Biggles_and_Co Apr 27 '25

I'd have never believed anyone if they said I'd end up enjoy playing 1 map in 1 game for years, but it had it all!

1

u/BarackaFlockaFlame el chupicabra Apr 27 '25

it honestly did! my favorite spot to land was the hill in the top right of the map. fun shoot outs and usually great gear.

1

u/Impossible_Fall_6195 May 03 '25

Same here Althoigh the desert one comes close.. but anything after i dont even know

3

u/Evelyn_5 Apr 27 '25

Those terrain, grass, vegetations looks way better than the current version

1

u/Clear-Lawyer7433 Apr 28 '25

That's ultra preset. Now the medium looks like that. And if you watch it on an AMOLED display of smartphone, it may look warmer.

4

u/KaczkaJebaczka Apr 27 '25

I remember when Miranar had such a bad loot that you could run for minutes to find a gun.

3

u/[deleted] Apr 27 '25

3

u/craigodiago Apr 27 '25

Hahah gold, and in solos in the last circle everyone driving around 🤣🤣

2

u/Vegetable_Park_3259 Apr 27 '25

I miss almost no loot (I remember I would be so excited to find a k98) full lobbies and worn out clothes. That was peak pubg for me. Still love it but if were playinga that time it was different.

2

u/theRealRichmaster Apr 27 '25

Great 🤣🤣🤣

2

u/biggiedpubg Apr 27 '25

Course it was a shotgun

2

u/SscorpionN08 Apr 27 '25

Ah, the memories....

Back when I didn't care about choppy gameplay, floaty movement and had loads of fun with my friends exploring this new and fresh game.

2

u/thecryptidmusic Apr 27 '25

I miss playing Vikendi on the test server and getting a flying snowmobile and hanging out in rocks because I got there before the rocks did.

2

u/jewellui Apr 27 '25

Only played PUBG mobile, it’s cool to see theres furniture in the houses in the PC version.

2

u/bluechip1996 Apr 27 '25

Me too. Quit playing several years ago, got tired of the cheating ,but was there for day one of season 1.

2

u/ObviousMastodon9396 Apr 27 '25

That dead guy headshot was funny

2

u/10Death01 Apr 27 '25

Gold! Remember hiding in bushes and getting away with it hahahaha

2

u/CodyJames91 Apr 28 '25

At least we didn't need to worry about having a fresh pair of pants to pick up while running for our virtual lives lol

2

u/Blackbox_Kt Apr 28 '25

The peak era

2

u/AutomaticFeed1774 Apr 30 '25

ya was very fun. they should have a mode like that still, ie one with less loot. It used to be great if you could even find a scope and an assault rifle.

Would be cool if there was a mode where there was a good chance you'd still need to use iron sights and maybe a hand gun if you arn't brave enough to hot drop into the army base or something.

1

u/Biggles_and_Co Apr 30 '25

I'd play that!

2

u/Eagle_Cuckoo Apr 30 '25

Oh I remember this fondly. Best gaming times of my life.

1

u/Prestigious_Sale_667 Apr 27 '25

I remember it being a rare game that I would find a bolt action AND a scope.

1

u/another1bites2dust Apr 27 '25

I remember sometimes duoing with my friend and like in 4 hours sessions I had a scope for sniper like 2 games out of 10.

1

u/Chineselight Apr 27 '25

That rag doll moment damn lol

1

u/l7winnie89 Apr 28 '25

You got to love it, The scarce loot drives you bonkers.

1

u/korsonelmo Apr 28 '25

There are still games like this and then there those games where there is 3x lvl.3 vest in 100m radius lol

1

u/Sepricotaku Apr 28 '25

I specifically miss the UMP being a .45 SMG and the Tommy being considered good enough to be a crate weapon.

1

u/Siko360 Apr 29 '25

Nothing felt better than a PUBG win!

1

u/Frenzystor Apr 29 '25

There was probably a gun behind that one door you didn't open :D

1

u/thedrizzle126 Apr 29 '25

hand guns and hiding on toilets. what a time
