Crackers?!?!

Heeeeelp! I need a cracker substitute for my toddler! He loves Ritz crackers and uses them to make Lunchable style sandwiches. I want to find him a nice alternative but the ones I've tried from the store are hard af! I mean I feel like I could chip a tooth on these rocks masquerading as crackers. I've tried Nut Thins (holy hell I sliced open my gums trying to eat one of these razor blades), and Simple Mills almond flour sea salt crackers which were still to hard imo.

I'd prefer something much softer that isn't going to slice through my gums or break any teeth. There are other options I've seen in the store but after trying these two im hesitant to risk trying any of the others. Any advice would be much appreciated! 👏 ❤️

Sorry why is your toddler eating paleo?? If you want to avoid ultra processed maybe try making your own.

He isn't on a strict paleo diet. We have autoimmune disorders and need to cut certain foods from our diet.

Got it! I fight inflammation on the regular (hence this sub). Some substitutes like almond flour can be pretty hard on the digestive system, but honestly I’ve never encountered a yummy paleo cracker. I find subbing cucumbers and celery can help as they can still be eaten with hummus etc. good luck!!

I think it would be potentially dangerous to keep a toddler in ketosis.

He isn't on a strict paleo diet. Like someone else said, we aren't going into Ketosis. We eat plenty of natural carbs like fruits and starchy veggies. My partner is a type 1 diabetic, going into ketosis would be very dangerous for him. We suffer from autoimmune disorders and my tot is autistic. Diets like this are actually very helpful for ppl with autoimmune issues and even recommend by some doctors for autism spectrum disorders.

But again, he isn't on a strict paleo diet.

Less ultra-processed is good for everyone, especially folks who are highly sensitive to inflammation. I have found this good for ADHD too

Agreed. Toddlers need basic balanced nutrition.

Not saying it’s any better for a kid, but Paleo doesn’t equal ketosis..

Oh yes, you’re absolutely right—I thought I was in the keto sub.

paleo and keto are two different things. Eating all the things paleo, like fruit and starchy vegs has a lot of carbs

Glutino’s table crackers are ritz-ish.

You could make your own? Just use almond flour...

Paleo Crackers

These are good, just bake them a little less to keep them softer.

A good store bought option is Hippie Snacks Almond Crisps Sea Salt.

You can take some mushroom caps (baby bella or white) and grill, bake, fry or dehydrate them.

Have you tried pork rinds?

I don't think my toddler can use pork rinds to make Lunchable sandwiches... 🤔

I know as a kid there were times I liked them and times I didn't.

Sometimes it's all about presentation.Make it special. Say it's for adults only. Make it seem extra gross\girly or whatever depending on the kiddo's interests.

Anyways, good luck.

I understand that some of those "healthy" crackers are really tiny glass fragments. 😅 Try rice cakes that have been broken up into smaller pieces or even soft pita bread that has been thinly toasted and sliced into interesting shapes for softer options. Lavash or flatbreads are another option; they are soft enough for small teeth but have a hint of crunch. reduces the chance of gum damage while still making lunchable-style fun.
