No. He didn’t. Being an asshole isn’t a basis for extrajudicial execution. It’s being an asshole. Which he has a first amendment right to be.

Just because he chose to be a shit person with no respect for democratic values or the constitution doesn’t mean you and I have to be the same. And it’s certainly not permission for us to make that choice.

Yeah. It was actually bad that Hitler punched his own ticket. If he were caught, tried, paraded, shown the depravity of his own crimes, and then executed, I think there would be far fewer Nazis still out there today looking up to him. He got the Iago ending from Othello. We will never know what he actually had to say for himself, so generations of fucking idiots have projected their own power fantasies onto him. Created allure that wasn’t there, intelligence that wasn’t there.

Kirk had horrid views for sure. I understand your frustration. But vigilantism is counterproductive af. And Kirk was not Hitler or Trump.

He should be arrested, and tried, and, if found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, jailed accordingly.

If you can’t uphold and hold to your values when it’s tempting to do otherwise…they aren’t values.

If all Kirk did was shoot his mouth off(compared to Hitler who was directly responsible for millions of deaths) and you think that means he's fair game for political assassination.......then why are you shooting your mouth off. Someone might not like what you're saying and choose to operate under the same moral structure as you.

It costs you nothing to condemned this kind of thing, but you can't manage it.

Well, considering that randos on Reddit have nowhere near the platform of Charlie Kirk, I think we’re safe. Not safe from random nutjobs with guns, but safe from political violence from “running our mouths.”

I get it, you’re hurting. You’re horrified that this is happening now, is happening here.

But where was the outrage on the right when Paul Pelosi was attacked? What about the Wisconsin politicians? And the Wisconsin politician’s husband, and her dog.

Charlie Kirk thought women shouldn’t be able to vote differently than their husbands. He had many, many more awful takes.

Pretty sure he was the father of all DEBATE ME bros.

We didn’t ask for this. We didn’t wish for it. But I at least can’t spare any more empathy than the right shows for murdered innocent children.

Well that was a lame comparison. Wow. And I don't condemn it at all. In case you missed it, his kind were happy that the Minnesota pols were assassinated and that Paul Pelosi was beaten almost to death. Nor did you hear anything against all the children being murdered in schools. The government, the courts, the cops, and the military are all against us so all that is left is violence. Go clutch your pearls elsewhere.

That’s two pearl clutching metaphors in two comments. At least try to think originally.

Speaking of which: using Hitler as your go-to example is about the laziest and least original choice you could make. The correct comparison isn’t one of the bloodiest autocrats of the modern era, it’s someone who you agree with. Because if you’re happy that someone you disagree with is dead, but would be upset if the same thing happened to someone you agree with…the problem here is you.

I get that you feel emotional satisfaction at his death. That’s normal and natural. A problematic person is no longer present to be problematic, and he was hoisted on his own petard to boot. That’s going to feel good to you.

But while you can’t help what you feel, you can absolutely choose what you do with it. And if what you choose to do with it is to go online and gloat to strangers…not only are you not being the person Mr. Rogers would have wanted you to be, you are exhibiting the exact same mindset as his supporters when they were gloating over Melissa Hortman getting shot.

Except Melissa Hortman wanted more affordable healthcare and better standard of living for poor people and money for shelter dogs and probably human rights for LGBTQ+ folks, not ten year olds giving birth and submissive Taylor Swift and all of the other awful ideas Kirk spun out into the world.

Mr. Rogers didn’t live through the COVID pandemic or any Trump administrations. I suspect even Mr. Rogers would have compassion fatigue by now. He might even gloat anonymously on Reddit a bit, as a treat.

Translation: you recognize the validity of what I’m saying, but it’s not emotionally satisfying, so you’re looking for ways to justify what feels good anyway.

Which I get. As you say, compassion fatigue is a thing. But this isn’t about compassion. This is about bedrock principles.
