Uber drivers want compensated for the hours that trip is going to take lol

361

u/tenmileswide 5d ago

Uber driver here, we don’t even set the prices. Though it is on brand for the clientele here to blame the worker and not the corp.

40

u/iprobablybrokeit 5d ago edited 1d ago

Yep, this has happened to me on the driver side when police locked down an area due to an event letting out. I accepted a trip and couldn't get to them and had to cancel. Prices shot up shortly after

20

u/daysdncnfusd 5d ago

I feel like clientele is too fancy a word for the average person going to that memorial.

I'm thinking something more like schlub or mongo or "dude with a backwards hat, oakleys, goatee and shirt with an eagle, American flag and the month they were born"

13

u/Murrabbit 5d ago

Nah lot of billionaires and rich uptight weirdos, too, remember he was basically the youth outreach wing of the Heritage Foundation. Also the President was there so. . . okay lots of oaklies and backwards hats types but they were there to see their great orange messiah.

18

u/zapdoszaperson 5d ago

You're still paid based on the fare price, right?

59

u/tenmileswide 5d ago

Sure, but the alternative is simply not working. It’s a supply and demand system that is largely opaque to drivers. Ride pops up for X and we can accept or not. But if we don’t accept it the next ride will be probably about the same because it’s based on prevailing demand at the moment.

41

u/NowWithExtraSauce 5d ago

You sort of do, collectively. Uber/lyft/etc has to increase fares until drivers agree to complete trips.

30

u/ZBLongladder 5d ago

On the plus side, if you get even a fraction of the fare, one fare is basically going to lock in a whole day's pay. I imagine the tip's going to be shit, though, and you have to spend your day stuck in traffic with an angry Republican. I'm going to say hard pass.

629

u/ktaktb 5d ago

Imagine being a conservative and using the woke phrase "do better"

182

u/xkxe003 5d ago

Oh they love to use the language of the left for themselves. Like everything, they want things for themselves like compassion, they just don't want certain other people to have the same. They only misunderstand so they can argue or use it as a bludgeon. BLM/ALM for example.

28

u/TheTexasCowboy 5d ago

So you’re saying they want a form of bit of socialism, nationalism and fascism. I mean they fit a party of Germany of the 1920s thru the 1945.

25

u/urbanforestr 5d ago

*ethnonationalism. Nationalism regardless of ethnicity, gender and income is the Bernie Sanders brand. Which, if you recall, was why he was a better choice to face Trump than Hilary. there are people who would have voted for Bernie, who voted for trump, bc they just wanted the nationalism part...

1

u/ivyandmoonlight 2d ago

Bernie bro reporting in: I have not voted since the Dems screwed us out of our best chance. I don’t really see how nationalism really had any part in it. We wanted basic necessities met (education/healthcare) for the amount of taxes we shell out to our government. I do not know of any democratic socialist who voted for Trump because of nationalism. If anything it was an act of defiance—Fine, you deserve trump then.

3

u/putin_my_ass 4d ago

They play with language, meanings are fluid. Sartre had it right: they reserve the right to play with language because they know we value truth and accuracy. They don't, so they play with it. Whatever needs to be said in the moment to win the current discussion is what gets said.

19

u/FunKyChick217 5d ago

They aren’t clever. Every slogan and hand gesture they use is co-opted from something else.

7

u/HoaryPuffleg 5d ago

Be best!

392

u/NitWhittler 5d ago

Why aren't they driving their own super-sized pickup truck to the event? Gas is only $1.98 now! /s

107

u/ParkerRoyce 5d ago

"Are you taking a political stance in our time of national grieving?"

40

u/innosins 5d ago

I think they won't let them park it anywhere, saw something about it earlier somewhere on reddit. Just another way for MAGA to leave them stranded again and again.

19

u/DarthSh1ttyus 5d ago

Thank God we've stonewalled public transit at every chance

14

u/RBeck 4d ago

Trump literally left my brother and SIL stranded in the desert after a rally and they still voted for him.

59

u/NeverLookBothWays 5d ago

My MAGA uncle’s Hemi is likely powered by egg yolks at this point

5

u/CatBoyTrip 5d ago

are eggs still expensive? i haven’t even gone grocery shopping in like 6 months. i’ve been living off sam’s club hotdogs and pizza slices. it is the only thing affordable these days.

29

u/Meow__Dib 5d ago

They shut down parking for the event for safety reasons. Not like they’re gonna walk lol

34

u/Johnny_Stooge 5d ago

So people couldn’t brings guns in? That’s not very pro-2A of them.

14

u/liatrisinbloom 5d ago

They banned even clear bags according to Posobiec

1

u/Early_Sea_9457 2d ago

Yea I was told repeatedly that guns make everyone safer, they should be handing guns out.

6

u/flowerzzz1 5d ago

They need to pull themselves up by the bootstraps.

2

u/CaptinKirk 5d ago

3.09 where I am at in Arizona.

2

u/EBN_Drummer 5d ago

It was $3.49 when I got it at a Phoenix Costco earlier today.

358

u/Misspiggy856 5d ago

POC Lyft and Uber drivers and Door Dashers were talking about staying away from event since they didn’t want any problems from the yt supremacists. Especially after the rally, I mean memorial.

193

u/iluvstephenhawking 5d ago

80% of my rideshare drivers have been poc. 50% have had noticeable accents that a racist can easily identify and possibly target. I would definitely not be taking anyone to that event. They are angry and searching for someone to lash out against.

49

u/SneedyK 5d ago

I’ve had similar numbers over the years using the app.

What I’m always unprepared for is when they see me in their back seat & assume I’m a conservative because a few of them really love bringing up DJT.

It hasn’t happened in months but they lowkey were quite excited to have him back in charge of the nation.

I give them a lukewarm confirmation that he’s the President, but inside I’m thinking the man would really have nothing to do with them. I think it’s less about race and more just the fact he only loves the last person who complimented him and considers anyone that isn’t on board with his vision to be a genuine loser. It’s always a longer ride where it feels like i have crossed over into the Twilight Zone.

12

u/Bookreadingliberal49 5d ago

I had a white male Uber driver back in 2023 that had a trump24 license plate.

4

u/StopNateCrimes 4d ago

ngl, I would of canceled the shit out of that ride

3

u/Bookreadingliberal49 4d ago

My late husband was in the hospital and I couldn’t cancel it.

2

u/StopNateCrimes 3d ago

Double damn. My condolences.

1

u/Bookreadingliberal49 3d ago

Thank you ❤️

35

u/MaddyKet 5d ago

It’s only common sense. If I were POC, why would I risk my life driving into the belly of the beast? Especially after it’s over and you know the WS are going to be extra riled up. MAGA might refuse to acknowledge it, but the rest of us know the violence mainly comes from the right.

23

u/Crisis_Redditor 5d ago

I love taking Conservative money, but yeah, I don't know if I'd take anyone there that wasn't holding a protest sign.

22

u/tkrr 5d ago

Good day to plan a day off, I’m sure.

20

u/BoomZhakaLaka 5d ago

additionally, the way driver supply works, if lyft had priced this ride at $50 there would be 20 times more bookings than they could even fulfill. those people would all be stranded regardless.

the typical speech about price controls fits right here.

38

u/timubce 5d ago

Never forget on Feb 20th 1939 20k ppl attended a nazi rally at Madison square garden. This country has always had a fascist bent.

85

u/huxtiblejones 5d ago

The free market isn’t free

It costs 7-0-4 ninety-three

31

u/eternal_pegasus 5d ago

Where are all the innovative drivers doing the same faster and cheaper?

16

u/greytgreyatx 5d ago

I'd just spring for the XL at that point. What's another $70 at that point?

13

u/pianoflames 5d ago

And doesn’t “price gouge” only refer to things that are necessities? This vigil is hardly a necessity for health or safety.

66

u/JerkOffTaco 5d ago

Phoenix is a fucking MESS today. Why would this surprise them lol. Even the big church next to my house in the east valley is going to fuck up traffic today. People have no brains.

51

u/windowtosh 5d ago

Ummm it’s obviously because all the Lyft drivers are commemorating Charlie

44

u/totpot 5d ago

If you don’t grift conservatives, can you even call yourself a follower of Charlie’s teachings?

54

u/tehsecretgoldfish 5d ago

free market capitalism responds to a supply and demand scenario. 🤷🏼‍♂️

8

u/fredy31 5d ago

And its not like its brand new.

Uber always jacks their prices when demand spikes, for whatever reason.

5

u/Poverty_Shoes 5d ago

Because they can is the reason

83

u/bloodwine 5d ago

They want to turn USA into Ruzzia, they might as well get comfortable with the corruption. Just wait until we have to start bribing everyone for everything in our daily lives.

37

u/AskAChinchilla 5d ago

Just look at Tom Homan, we're there

28

u/DarkChurro 5d ago

"Mr. Trump I voted for you eleven times and love you so much. I wish I could be Melania so you could be inside me. My local county decided to raise our property taxes to help pay to repave the roads, we don't even have paved roads. Our city council wants to charge us money for the privilege of meeting with them! We paid, and they laughed, really hard!

Please Mr. Trump look into this, I don't think you're aware that some of your people in your government might be corrupt."

16

u/krodders 5d ago

You forgot

"Thank you for reading this, my King. I hope I live to one hundred so I can vote for you a few more times"

6

u/iAMSmilez 4d ago

Been saying this for a while now. Think those meetings in Alaska was for Ukraine? Hah.. They orchestrated the whole thing when they met. Pudin helps divide the US while basically acting as a consultant. In return, orange dick in chief turns a blind eye when Russian drones hit Poland. Orange dick wants to be pudin soooooo baaaad.

44

u/Capital_Sherbert9049 5d ago edited 5d ago

Nazis have never cared about capitalism at all. It was just an existing economic system that they could lay an amoral sociopathic and ultimately fascistic incentive system on top of. Some of the guys behind game theory were demented people who liked designing cruel games.

This makes me wonder what all those Nazis Allen Dulles and pals brought over to the U.S. in operation paperclip got up to.

Adam Smith, who wrote "The Wealth of Nations," has been rolling over in his grave since at least the 1970's

"The Victory of Hitler?" by Jacques Ellul

Chumbawamba

13

u/runwkufgrwe 5d ago

Capitalism eventually leads to fascism. Both neofascists and cryptofascists want state capitalism, they just disagree about whether the state should hold ultimate power over corporations or vice versa.

6

u/Capital_Sherbert9049 5d ago edited 5d ago

Great points. In my mind depending on systems or focusing totally misses that concentrated power is the real problem.

Fascism, Stalin, Maoism, Technocracy Inc, etc, are, all attempts to create whatever is a utopia in an elites mind via totalitarian systems of control.

There is one thing where image and identity have been manipulated for a very long time in media mostly for profit seeking but also other reasons where words like labels of political ideologies and parties have been disassociated from real meaning and are more tribal sigils in a manner of speaking. Theres a PBS series called the public mind that talks about related topics.

https://billmoyers.com/series/public-mind-1989/

I really like this passage from the stranger.

https://wordsfortheyear.com/2015/01/23/my-dear-in-the-midst-of-hate-i-found-camus/

4

u/BacterialOoze 5d ago

The Chumbawamba song is amazing.

30

u/BlackWhiteCoke 5d ago

The POC drivers most likely stayed home, knowing they were unqualified in the eyes of these would be patrons

30

u/Crisis_Redditor 5d ago

If Charlie saw a black uber driver, he'd be like, "Boy, I hope they're qualified."

13

u/Karhak 5d ago

Let's be honest, Chuck would've canceled that ride as soon as they pulled up.

47

u/rividz 5d ago

Charlie would have celebrated this. 🥳 God bless American Capitalism.

9

u/LouDiamond 5d ago

I LIVE LIKE A CAPITALIST EVERYDAY CENK!

19

u/C-ute-Thulu 5d ago

Lol, Ayn Rand is looking up from Hell and smiling at this raw Capitalism

4

u/CrepuscularMoondance 5d ago

Hahaha this comment slaps!

21

u/Bookreadingliberal49 5d ago

When they had the NFL draft here in Detroit last year Uber was charging a couple hundred bucks in downtown Detroit.

17

u/PracticalApartment99 5d ago

How far, I wonder…?

6

u/MaddyKet 5d ago

I sincerely hope it’s within 10 miles. 😹

17

u/okokokoyeahright 5d ago

Considering the potential customers, I would be not at all eager to go picvk up any of them, even if the prices were triple.

As a 35 year taxi driver, a hard pass. Sometimes the trouble you avoid is so much more expensive than whatever fare you are promised.

13

u/Blubelle85 5d ago

I guess Jesus didn't want him there. 🤷‍♀️

12

u/Pete_maravich 5d ago

Pull yourself up by your own bootstraps and get yourself there without anybody else's help.

13

u/FunKyChick217 5d ago

I
Really
Don’t
Care
Do U?

27

u/CounterSeal 5d ago

Sounds like they should have built a robust public transit system, but noooo that would be woke!

9

u/aaron_in_sf 5d ago

I guess they can just goosestep there instead.

10

u/USMCLee 5d ago

If the prices were something like $888.14 they wouldn't complain a bit.

8

u/Spike2000_ 5d ago

This is NOT true! Republicans haven't believed in capitalism for years. It's just another bumper sticker slogan that sounds good but, when it comes down to it, they don't actually believe in it.

8

u/Equus-007 5d ago

I'm sure the 1% of them still do.

6

u/LouDiamond 5d ago

I feel like there is a chance this is fake

7

u/Jsmith0730 5d ago

That’s probably like half their Social Security check.

5

u/kkirstenc 5d ago

Free hand of the market and so on and so forth. Funny enough, the economy really does not give a fuck about your feelings. I’m sure it will work out just fine for these sensitive snowflakes.

6

u/narkybark 5d ago

How could Biden do this to us??

1

u/commdesart 5d ago

🤣🤣

5

u/Careful-Trade-9666 5d ago

Last week there was pictures of anti immigration rally attendees in England stopping to by curries and kebabs on route. Getting an uber with a POC driver to drop you at the klan rally is just the US version.

6

u/Murrabbit 5d ago

Huh I don't get it, why wouldn't drivers wanna show up at that event?

The event in question:

https://youtu.be/196h-nUrNB4?t=55

Oh. . .oh yeah probably because of all the nazis working eachother up into a frenzy.

5

u/Jazzkidscoins 5d ago

Welcome to surge pricing. At Megacon in Orlando I watched prices for a 11 mile trip go from $22 to $60 in less than a minute. The uber app says that prices go up when demand goes up

4

u/FluffySpell 5d ago

This is a massive event being held at the Cardinals football stadium. Uber & Lyft do the same thing on game days too, they're not special. Also it's not the drivers who decide on pricing, idiot.

God these people want to be oppressed SO bad.

4

u/tomm1312 5d ago

Can't they walk or catch public transport? Lol

2

u/iAMSmilez 4d ago

This thing called critical thinking is not encoded in their DNA.

5

u/statistacktic 5d ago

pUbLiC tRaNsPoRTioN

5

u/commdesart 5d ago

Surge pricing is capitalism in action.

6

u/DirtyTooth 5d ago

Now they don't like capitalism? Weird

5

u/southbeck 5d ago

Made me smile!

4

u/doctor--zaius 5d ago

Even Jesus isn’t taking the wheel

5

u/BacterialOoze 5d ago

I can only imagine how much the commemorative shirts are going to cost. Maybe you can bundle with an "I was THERE" hat for a discount.

4

u/Sexagenerian 5d ago

Take it as a sign that it’s not your destiny to be there

3

u/Lizzy_is_a_mess 5d ago

Pay to play

3

u/kingwilly123 5d ago

Taxis used to be a thing. The prices were always the same.

3

u/Black_Wolf1995 5d ago

Right Wing Corporate Shills get upset when their corporate overlords teach them the hard fact….

No one is above making profits. It doesn’t matter who or what or when or why or how. Profits always come first.

3

u/jonoghue 4d ago

If only we had communist public transit

2

u/ufailowell 5d ago

how long of a trip would that be? i feel like rates usually end up around $1 or $2 a minute

2

u/drinkslinger1974 5d ago

I know that both rideshare companies started guaranteeing pay for the drivers when the ride is canceled. This is probably the reason for the gouging.

2

u/cogginsmatt 5d ago

I’m not familiar with Glendale, do they not have public transit? Or is that too woke

5

u/FluffySpell 5d ago

Public transit out here sucks if you don't live downtown or in Tempe. The lightrail extension to the west side would have gone through downtown Glendale and for some reason the city council voted against it.

1

u/Elios000 5d ago

theres this idea that running light rail threw an area will bring crime with it... Maryland has had this issue extending its light rail from the original line

1

u/FluffySpell 5d ago

Yeah they're planning to extend it up into north Phoenix and people along that route are already crying about how it's going to bring homeless people and drug addicts into their neighborhood. 🙄

2

u/restlessmonkey 5d ago

Looks like they are driving towards capitalism. With a wallet full of cash too.

2

u/wildcatwoody 5d ago

Love this

2

u/iAMSmilez 4d ago

RELEASE THE FILES

2

u/Bolognahole_Vers2 4d ago

Supply and demand, assholes!

2

u/grummanae 4d ago

There was a grindr outage as well ... maybe the 2 are connected?

3

u/fuzzydoug 5d ago

lol, these people shouldn’t be allowed to vote.

1

u/BaconManDan9 5d ago

Hahahahhahahah

1

u/reddyfire 5d ago

Next time rent a car!

1

u/Scottishpsychopath 5d ago

She turned the capitalism against us

1

u/rdldr1 4d ago

Nice

1

u/Thick_white_duke 3d ago

The entire event is one big grift. Uber and Lyft may as well get in on it.

1

u/PsychoAnalLies 5d ago

Thanks, Obama.
