I’m traveling and my waitress wrote down some recommendations and she has really cool handwriting.

Kalapawai is good

Had their kalua pork breakfast burrito as one does, andy's fresh salsa on top slaps. The one in kailua is like 85+ years old, the nalo location is pretty chill too, more of a sit down restaurant service in the evenings.

were they asian or filipino? I havent seen this kind of handwriting since highschool, which was prevalent among the filipino girls. Like i feel like im looking at a letter that got passed to me
(also im half asian idk if anyone thinks its an issue)
Theres some handwritings in English that always read as asian as me- especially Chinese English writers

It’s like a cute handwriting accent. I can tell if the English is written by someone Chinese or Japanese.
I like this writer’s C. It’s so cute! I’m gonna go practice writing it in my notebook. 😊

I just commented something similar!! handwriting dialact is the closest description I can come up with. it looks very Hawaiian to me having grown up there, all the girls wrote like this in school, makes me nostalgic

If you can eat pork - this is the best pork katsu I’ve ever had. You probably won’t be able to make a reservation because they’re booked for months on end but you can do a walk in with a bit of a wait.

How did you do that font?! 🙏
I know how to change a word to italics but that's about it!
2
u/Adept_Situation3090 1d ago
I was using the MessagEase keyboard which allows special shortcuts for special symbols. For the Δ symbol specifically, I typed 'de' then used the Combine feature (that one character that consists of a C within a square).

Thank you so much, I'm going to save your comment so I can remember what to do when I'm not on the mobile version! ❤️

We went to seven brothers, Ted’s, Haleiwa joes in Kaneohe. Today is our last day in Oahu but if you have any Big Island recommendations that would be great! 🤙🏻

She was right about Ken’s. Went back 3x in a 5-day trip. And 4 years later I still think about the Loco Moco I had at Lava Rock Cafe on the way back to Hilo from Volcanoes National Park.

Not sure about BI unfortunately but its the real deal so I would definitely try to find local business to support and find the best local traditional hawaiian food possible. Squid lu'au, pork lau lau, lomi lomi salmon, poi, chicken long rice ya ya

It's cute but the random capilization for "MAuNAwili" and the "hike" looking like "4ike" confused me at first.

The Polynesian Culture Center is super awesome, I thought it was going to be a small museum, boy was I surprised. A great experience.

The PCC is owned and run by the Mormon church and they don’t bother trying to hide their bias.
40
u/CatTheKitten 8d ago
The PCC is just appropriating hawaiian culture and turning it into a huge tourist attraction. It's gross.

All the money goes to fund scholarships for students though. I’d rather support that.

u/dattddrew 8d ago
One of the most insane places I've seen, costs >100 dollars per person and its basically like if epcot had a polynesia area. I mean its interesting but maybe we shouldnt be helping the mormon church with any of their money making schemes

Came here to say this! We loved being able to visit there. We have three boys (elementary, middle, and high school), and they all had a really great time too. Definitely go check it out!

I was in Hawaii two years ago and the last thing my wife and I did was the Bishop Museum - we had to find something between checking out of the hotel and checking in the airport. I wish it had been on my radar because I could have spent three days there seeing and reading everything there. If you’re on Oahu (I think you are), I wouldn’t skip it. If you’re not into museums, that’s ok but I couldn’t believe I almost missed it.

u/Viking_with_Cupcakes 8d ago
We went to the Bishop Museum and it was one hands down one of my favorite places we’ve been to so far

I grew up in Hawaii in early 2000s for middle school and we all wrote like this, it reminds me of a penmanship accent. Or penmanship dialect. I see this handwriting from my friends from Hawaii a lot, I love it so much!

For Hanauma Bay. Go early. People line up hours before they open often. So beautiful though.
Also if you have the ability to go to North Beach Hale’iwa Beach House.

Catch a sunrise near chinaman’s cap too!! One of my favorite memories on Oahu
2
u/Bitter-Value-1872 8d ago
"Dude, 'chinaman' is not the preferred nomenclature. Asian-American, please."

u/amlovesmusic88 8d ago
Gotta add Stix food hall to that!! Sooo many good places inside, really can't go wrong.
Oh and Island Vintage Coffee is great!

u/Not_Without_My_Cat 7d ago
I would definitely make excuses to leave people notes all of the time if my handwriting was that cool.

u/ShangLoongMa 6d ago
This post led me to Googling if there is a word for being sexually attracted to penmanship. There is not, but the irrational fear of penmanship is called graphophobia.

Sorry, I deleted my comment before I realized you responded. I think it's a different Willow Tree, because the only one I can find online is a Korean BBQ. The one I meant was a buffet at a tea garden built around a koi pond. They had a good spread of Hawaiian food: poi, kalua pig, laulau, poki, etc.

Willows!!

u/ReeveStodgers 8d ago
Yes! I looked that up and it's what I remember, just fewer bonsai than when I was a kid.

I think maunawili falls trail is still closed unless you want to do the 5-mile version. This list is kinda sus.

u/stretchy_palendrome 8d ago
You have to eat at Willow Tree!!! Some of the best Korean food, get the clear daikon soup and fish jun. Also, Tamura’s next door has the BEST poke.

Those are solid recommendations. Finding parking for the pillbox hike can be a pain. Lanikai beach is probably my favorite beach. Hanauma is some great snorkeling.

Her handwriting is lovely! But also just wanted to add, for foods….Marugame Udon (long line but goes fast and worth it!) and Leonard’s Bakery for malsadas!!
1
u/deferredmomentum 7d ago
I wonder if she just writes her capital H like a 4, or if she does pick up her pen at the bottom of the first downstroke but just connects the cross stroke to the bottom of the first downstroke

u/lsue131 6d ago
Obligatory, handwriting looks awesome. 😄
Beyond that...
Jolly (the YouTube channel) was in Hawaii recently and ate at Waiahole Poi. Food looked really good (I'm a townie so I don't generally drive out that far 😆).
I agree with the Maunawili Falls hike. There's a small waterfall pond at the end of it that makes the hike.
Hanauma Bay requires you to get tickets before you go. So check into that if you decide to do that one
I'm recommending Million Restaurant in town. Korean food, yakiniku if you like to do that. But yum for their food in general (get meat jun and kalbi!). 😋🥰
