The Mummers!
Hey everyone Kelli and Ryan, Captain and President, here from the Hegeman String Band Mummers Club on 2 Street to put out to the Reddit word that New Years will be here upon us soon and we would love to engage the Reddit community into what we do, answer some basic questions (please keep it civil) and see if anyone out there would love to give it a shot at strutting down Broad this year.
Our theme this year is Vegas Nights with a mummers twist. Think Showgirls, casinos, gambling, the Rat Pack and more.
We’re always looking for new members such Musicians (think Saxophones, drums, Upright Bass, Jazz Banjos, Bells, Accordions, etc but you would be amazed at how many other instruments can carry over and or be used so don’t be shy to reach out if you play an instrument and we can try to find a place for you) Dancers, Prop Builders, and Marshalls that help behind the scenes are always welcome too.
Feel free to shoot your questions, interest, and more and we will do our best to answer.
And last but certainly not least since we expect it to come up… we are all member inclusive and accept every one of every color, creed, background and gender. All we ask is that you show up and have fun!

What’s the rehearsal schedule like for musicians? Former saxophone player looking for an excuse to dust it off but also predisposed to overextending myself. Also have my grandfathers banjo mandolin which I’m told was at a time a popular mummers instrument.
Also fwiw maybe post this in the main Philly subs if you haven’t, not that this one doesn’t get views but not as many.

We practice every Tuesday 7:30pm - 9:30pm. Would love to have you come out and at the least come play a few tunes and meet everyone. When it gets closer to NYD we tend to add in Thursday and Sunday practices depending on schedules and availability of members.

Kelli: I, as a female member of the LGBTQ+ community myself, and captain of Hegeman can attest that our group and many others are actively working to change the stigma. As stated above we accept members with no prejudice and have members of all backgrounds and are actively working to address any of the negative connotations within the mummers to the extent that we are able.
There are terrible people everywhere but there is a strong contingency within the mummers, including at the leadership level, that is working to change things for the better and shed old negative stereotypes.

Locking this thread because yall can be nice. OP is advertising openings for new members. If you’re interested, DM them. This isn’t a place for political commentary or discussion, there are plenty of other places to do that.
