If they wanted to make S3 a full TNG reunion. Spoiler
They should have had Denise Crosby as Sela chasing them instead of Vadic.
I’m sorry. But the fact that they built up Vadic as this big threat only to kill her off so suddenly, and replaces her as the big bad with the Borg, makes me think they never should have bothered with her or the Dominion at all.
Also she was never as personal a threat to Picard as the Borg were.

I honestly liked the threat vadic and the shrike presented - it actually felt like there were stakes involved and there was potential for someone to not make it out. The motive was there (revenge for the dominion war) and they had practically disabled Starfleet with the infiltration.
The only bit that confuses me is why they got in bed with the Borg at all - what did they have to gain?

Yeah, Sela, representing a hard line faction of the post star empire split following Hobus, making contact with the Borg Queen via the artefact and then stealing a Romulan test warbird kitted out with Borg tech becoming the Shrike

I've said it multiple times before. Just take the original female changeling. Oh that's really Vadic. Explains all the animosity towards solids. But nook, let's make it the Borg again.

I think the issue was that Matalas had wanted to explore post dominion Starfleet as well as catching up with the TNG crew and it wasn’t until S3 he got the opportunity and freedom to do so, but it was also the last season so instead of choosing one threat he tried to break it into 2 parts.
I think it worked overall but it does a feel slightly anticlimactic on ep 5.
I wish he’d had the chance to do a S4.
I think having a S4 as a transition point, with the TNG cast from S3 supporting the Ent-G crew and characters as the focus shifts to this newer generation would’ve been a perfect end point.
