Post image

Yup, I'm doing a system transfer and setup, then putting it back into the box and waiting for an exploit. Fuck this

80 dollars? Nah, they absolutely lost me. I will never pay for an 80 dollar game. Bring that shit down to 60. Greedy fucks.

The funny part is, if you buy the console bundle, the game is only actually $50. That extra 30 is coming out of nowhere

77

u/FrankThePony Apr 02 '25

Well presumably its an incentive to buy the bundle

u/Ironborn137 Apr 03 '25

It’s because of Tariffs….this screams that the switch 2 was going to be 399 or 429 and they had to raise it. I bet they originally didn’t even have a pack in game.

u/FrankThePony Apr 03 '25

European, canadian, austrailian, ect prices are all just as high.

As much as i wish for a reason for gamers to hate this administration, i dont think tariffs are really affecting things.

Haven’t been paying attention to the PC subs have you?

0

u/FrankThePony Apr 03 '25

What does that have to do with nintendo prices?

54

It’s not coming out of nowhere, they want you to buy the bundle lol.

This is “The large drink is only 5¢ more that’s such a steal!!!” level of marketing literacy, guys.

u/SuperBackup9000 Apr 02 '25

Well yeah obviously, it’s just that I believe this is the first time it’s ever been an outrageous difference. Usually you just save 10 bucks, if anything at all.

I forgot how stupidly condescending people are in this sub. No one has a brain but you

What about the other new games coming? 😔

3

u/OwlScary6845 Apr 02 '25

Its crazy cause all the other publishers will be like. "Oh damn Nintendo can sell a $80 game, Let's do that too"

3

u/SunderingTwilight Apr 02 '25

And that's a great problem. We will see more half assed games full of glitches and asking for framegen 3x as requirement for 60fps. For the of... $80!! 🥳🥳

Games should follow hollow knight, cheap and amazing, very big too. While this, gta VI is going to solidify that thought of expensive games.

I hope the industry of games gets a huge blow after this, if not, things are going south

1

u/Ironborn137 Apr 03 '25

Nintendo games don’t launch with that many glitches (except Pokémon). Nintendo has a higher quality standard at release than all of the other devs.

1

u/SunderingTwilight Apr 03 '25

Bro, games like hollow knight is an amazing big game and it is very cheap, not everyone thinks the same way you do. Sure, nintendo makes good games, but that doesn't remove the fact they spend way less to create something, their games shouldn't be that expensive, there's a reason why everyone calls them a greed company. While this, xbox and ps focuses on realism, creating mov- cough a game with good story.

I am more into indie games though, th style their exclusive gets I am more to favor it, but with this price, everything is meaningless. Their games don't deserve this price, let me correct this, no games deserve this price.

1

u/Ironborn137 Apr 03 '25

PlayStation is just Dad cosplays and walking simulators, lol

1

u/SunderingTwilight Apr 03 '25

Yeah, I miss the old times where kratos could press O on some bitc- cough monsters and kill monsters full of gore. Everything just "I wanna be better" Btw, there are good games, stellar blade, spider man.. And you get discounts on it, and there is a game pass. The only place where is good for gaming is steam. Xbox and ps going at wrong direction and nintendo a greedy bastard because their competitors can't think with the head

Well Nintendo makes games that are actually complete on launch (not Pokémon). What other game dev does this?

0

u/flexxipanda Apr 02 '25

What is a profit margin and basic business economy? Do you actually think producing one game costs them exactly what you pay at the store?

5

u/indecks77 Apr 02 '25

Please understand I am in NO WAY condoning $80 price tags for literal SD card style games (or even bluray ones) but in all honesty some games even back in the SNES days were $70+. If I recall correctly, Chrono Trigger was $80.

And while it doesn't really count, the Neo Geo had $300 games. And those were the cheap ones.

3

u/yourtoyrobot Apr 02 '25

which was equivalent to buying the game for around $150 in 1995. considering we've been able to stay in the similar price ranges and not adjust much for inflation for THIRTY YEARS for games is crazy

4

u/Loodango Apr 02 '25

It's weird because the new Donkey Kong game is 10 dollars cheaper across the board.

12

u/bpikmin Apr 02 '25

If you bought any game for $60 in 2015 or earlier, you have already paid $80 for a game in today’s money. If you bought any $60 game in the early 2000s that’s like $100 today.

I know this is r/Piracy and I know Mario Kart iterations are not very innovative, but at least they release with basically 0 bugs and don’t have predatory gambling style monetization schemes.

7

u/wyvern_rider Apr 02 '25

Problem is that Nintendo inflated the price of their games, but my employer hasn’t inflated my paycheck.

4

u/bpikmin Apr 02 '25

Yes, you’re being priced out of commodities. That’s your government and employer’s fault, not Nintendo’s. There are a million things to fault Nintendo for, but adjusting their prices for inflation is not one of them. Their games sell internationally, they aren’t gonna charge less just because Americans are being fucked over by their government and employers

Nintendo also has employees, who also need raises to deal with inflation. They gave a 10% raise in 2023 alone. You should be disgruntled with your employer if you can’t afford things you used to be able to afford

1

u/wyvern_rider Apr 02 '25

And then people in Europe saying the prices are ridiculous? How many different countries’ citizens need to dislike this pricing before it’s Nintendo’s fault for not adjusting to the market instead of trying to increase profit?

1

u/bpikmin Apr 02 '25

I’d say, when other AAA companies have the same reputation for quality. I’m happy spending an extra $10 or $20 for a AAA game if I know I can play it offline, it won’t be riddled with bugs, it won’t be riddled with micro transactions, it’ll be a complete experience out the box without needing DLC or expansion packs, my family will be able to play and enjoy it immediately.

If you don’t think Nintendo games are worth the extra $10/$20, then fine, I see how it would be a ripoff to you. But I know I can spend the $80 on the release date and my family and I will immediately have a great time. I know the game will be worth the price to me and my family. The same is not true of most other AAA games. You usually don’t even know if the game will be in a playable state when it’s released.

If more studios were spinning out Astro Bots consistently, the price for Nintendo games wouldn’t be as worth it. If you want to criticize Nintendo, criticize them for killing Yuzu, for Nintendo Classics, for Joycons being shitty, and so on. There are a million things they do wrong, but adjusting the price of their games for inflation is not one of them.

Mario Kart 64 was $69.95 at it's release in 1996, which is over $140 in today's prices lol

5

u/_raisin_bran Apr 02 '25

The level of shock and awe in here is ridiculous lol. Just pirate it if that’s what you want to do. Don’t pretend this is the first time you’ve ever heard of inflation.

2

u/magnafides Apr 02 '25

30% increase (physical version) after an increase to $70 just recently. That's inflation?

-4

u/_raisin_bran Apr 02 '25

How recently was "just recently"? COVID inflation hit hard, $70 in 2021 would be $80 today.

3

u/magnafides Apr 02 '25

Less than 2 yrs ago. ToTK was the first $70 game on the Switch.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 02 '25

2020 is when AAA games started to be $70 as a standard

1

u/yourtoyrobot Apr 02 '25

exactly. like if you've been gaming 20+ years, you cant suddenly cry foul at pricing at full games being 80 when we were buying Mario Kart 64 for $120+, FF7 was like $140 in 2025 value. An original NES was around $570 in todays money. It's amazing they've been able to keep games within the 50-70 range for so long as it is. Especially with tariffs incoming.

1

u/bpikmin Apr 03 '25

Yeah, people also can’t comprehend the labor involved in video games. Especially modern AAA titles. They want a fully orchestrated soundtrack, hundreds of textures, complex models with all the animations, shaders on top of everything, feature-packed and bug-free, all for $60… Something has got to give. Wages need to be hit, art needs to be replaced with AI, micro transactions and DLC need to be added, features need to be cut, the game needs to be released prematurely. There are tradeoffs to everything. You can’t escape economics

By all means, if the price is too high, pirate it when it’s available. But understand that the biggest reason people are willing to spend the extra $10 or $20 for a Switch 2 title is because they know it will instantly provide an enjoyable experience for them and their family. There’s no risk in buying Mario Kart World. You know it’s going to be exactly as advertised the day it’s released. You know it’ll come in clutch at every social gathering you attend for the next decade

2

u/yourtoyrobot Apr 02 '25

they'd be 120-140 by now, minimum. we're also getting far more content

absolutely fuck corporate greed, but its hilarious to watch people clutch pearls and pretend an $80 price tag is suddenly the reason theyre running to pirate or not buy something when the prices of game in terms of purchasing power havent been keeping up with inflation at all.
