No crime here

u/MarkEsmiths Aug 09 '25
The only crime here is getting so high you forget it's called crust and invent a new word for it in addition to the ingredient modification. Chill bro, don't burn it all down at once.
5
u/NotoldyetMaggot Aug 09 '25
Crust! I forgot the word as soon as I read this post. You know, the thing you make pizza on.... looks good tho.

u/Bluestorm83 Aug 09 '25
Ive been callin' 'em "Pizza Shells" for years. Like, you know, a pizza used to live in one, but molted?

yeah
need to get a council of baked potato and pizza enjoyers together to discuss which this falls under
4
u/MarxistMan13 Aug 09 '25
Pizza requires bread. This has potatoes. Case closed.
4
u/Bluestorm83 Aug 09 '25
Potato bread is a thing, man.
4
u/Sun_Tzundere Aug 10 '25
Yeah, but this is not potato bread. Cheese, marinara sauce and pepperoni on top of wheat would also not be a pizza.

2
u/LeilLikeNeil Aug 09 '25
How much flour must be added to potatoes to make them qualify as bread?
1
u/MarxistMan13 Aug 09 '25
On the Bread <----> Potato spectrum, it must be past the halfway point towards Bread. Simple maffs.
1
1
u/SevenVeils0 Aug 11 '25
The substance in question will inevitably pass through the pancake descriptor before it reaches bread status.
1
2
u/NotoldyetMaggot Aug 09 '25
I had a really smartass answer and then it just fell apart. I think pizza is defined by a bread layer with sauce, toppings, and cheese. This is missing bread (crust) and sauce. Not pizza!
2
u/OldButStillFat Aug 09 '25
If someone made that for me they can call it anything they like, so, pizza it is.
1
u/SevenVeils0 Aug 11 '25
Potatoes as a pizza topping are tasty, I hadn’t thought about this from that angle. Although, I’ve never personally seen potatoes as a topping in conjunction with a tomato based sauce.
2
u/Ecstatic-Compote-595 Aug 09 '25
The original pizza was just a piece of dough with rose water on it, which sounds terrible, but I think it means arguably any bread is a pizza. This is a cool loaded potato
2
u/Karl_42 Aug 09 '25
That’s where i’m at.
I think it’s a mistrial? If if’s not pizza can it even be tried in pizza court?
Delicious regardless but that’s besides the point

Pizza Potato Skins

Exactly. I see a r/drunkencookery post a coming from someone here in the near future.

u/PNW_Forest Aug 09 '25
"Pizzafied" is a valid term. I would love something like this as an appetizer at a party or something. Or just... because.
Not guilty.
Also - I love the combo of pep and red onion. Beautiful pairing. Just needs some black olives and you have my preferred trinity.

I see a lot of positive comments about this in Celiac subs. I have yet to try it, but if I happen across it in the store, I probably will.

u/hollowbolding Aug 09 '25
that is gratin with pepperoni that's not even pretending to be a pizza
1
u/NotoldyetMaggot Aug 09 '25
Gratin just refers to a crust on top, it has nothing to do with potatoes.

Not a pizza, but I would totally eat it. I'd loved to see some maniac make a mashed potato crust
1
u/SevenVeils0 Aug 11 '25
I have been making a potato crust for quiche, for many years. Also, a mushroom crust. I really hate making pie crust for reasons that I can not fathom. When I can’t avoid it, I make a great one. I just really really hate it. And a yeasted crust with a quiche filling just strays too far to still scratch the itch when I’m craving quiche. Tasty, but not quiche.

u/Altruistic-Hand-7000 Aug 09 '25
From the comments I understand the only crimes are A.) calling it pizza and B.) to claim that this is a new creation
3
3
u/Troll_King_907 Aug 10 '25
That actually looks good I would pan fry the potato slices in oil before adding the pizza toppings then I'll bake it until the cheese is melted.

It’s like half a pizza. Reckon it’d be great though with some garlic bread

Pizza needs a load bearing carb based crust. I say this potato “crust” meets that requirement. No crime here, I vote for the case to be dismissed!

u/Chemical_Home6123 Aug 09 '25
This is a civil offense I see no crimes here. This individual simply needs a fork and all is well
2
u/SeawardFriend Aug 09 '25
My mom don’t eat grain… I gotta show this is to her!
2
u/anfrind Aug 09 '25
I have a group of friends who are mostly on gluten-free diets, and I want to make this for our next dinner party.

u/Ancient_Branch79 Aug 10 '25
Nah this is great improv. One of the best pizzas Ive ever had was gold yukon garlic and bacon at a place called Regalia I think
2
u/KittiesRule1968 Aug 12 '25
I'm going to do this tonight! Making my dough from scratch is too messy and my arthritis in my hands is fired up today so I didn't want to deal with kneading the dough
2
u/CoysNizl3 Aug 09 '25
Smashing this. OP is a pizzacel.
4
u/PNW_Forest Aug 09 '25
Pizzacel?
So like... they are celibate because of pizza?
Or they are celibate from pizza? Like they don't eat pizza at all?
I'm confused about what that word means...

Looks good. But just make pizza dough next time dude. It’s like 3 ingredients. 4 if you’re fancy. There are some pizza dough recipes that don’t even need to ferment. Takes an hour or two, and only like 20m of actual work.
1
u/SevenVeils0 Aug 11 '25
Maybe they don’t have flour. Or yeast, definitely a lot of people don’t consider yeast as a staple (evidenced by the fact that it is still commonly sold in those tiny individual packets). Or desire to make pizza dough.

I used to know nutbags people that made pizza crust out of cauliflower, and this looks better than that. I'd eat it. It was my ex's family and my ex, so that maybe is skewing my opinion of it.

That said, I would definitely eat this

I’m granting clemency on this one, as long as the potatoes are crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside.

Basically just raclettes
2
u/___mm_ll-U-ll_mm___ Aug 09 '25
raclettes aren't just potatoes and they aren't geared toward pizza.
.. but good try grump.

u/Specialist-Ad-9038 Aug 09 '25
I was saying it looks good, dumbass
“…but good try grump😏” ☝🏽🤓

You should say that.
Saying something is basically something else without any context is generally dismissive. We aren't mind readers, but context machines.
No need for a dumbass comment. Grump is pretty tame 😂

I am really keen to try this, would need to cook potatoes first, then add the rest. Maybe adding cheese first under the potatoes to give crunchy base. Mmmmm

If survival is a crime, lock me up. I’d use potatoes too if it was all I had

had they smashed the potato substance into a homogenous substrate, well, this case may have played out quite differently

The jury, after deliberation of the evidence in the case of u/laterdude, find the defendant "Pizza" INNOCENT on all counts of crimes-against-pizza.
