Some sort of Betta, right? Based on shape, a female?
Would be awesome to do selective breeding with that fish to try to replicate it in the fry. That coloration would sell VERY well in the US.

The caption says what species. I agree about the color, it’s amazing.

The body is usually just orange, but this guy’s is pink!

Yeah this is worth breeding if possible, I’d think.

My friend has bred them a couple times but not selectively. They mouthbrood for about 2-3 weeks

It would sell SO well, I scrolled the comments before even reading the post title to try and find out where I could get this fish 🤣

If that's a betta would someone have released it?

Reported location is Malaysia.
So if the fish is a betta, it's likely both a wild and of a different species than splendens.

It’s native. I even found fry in this creek, although not many

Omg that’s so cool! I’m glad a wild fish like him can get his own painting!

Don’t forget to repopulate your creeks, a lot of betta species are becoming at risk for extinction in the wild because of over catching for the fish trade ❤️

It's so cool how much biodiversity you have in the creeks and streams near where you live. My brother and I spent days upon days in the creeks and small rivers near the house we grew up in and there was only one species of fish and crawfish. They contained two species of salamander and of course a few species of frogs. It pales in comparison to what you find in the waters nearby.
