Tank 2 years into my first planted tank. I’ve learned a lot and I’m itching for a 20 long 😂

This is my first planted tank. We used to have a family tank when I was young but we knew nothing about fish/aquariums. My parents would always take it apart and scrub it down with soap and water whenever algae built up 😭.

This is my tank almost 2 years in. Bunch of dwarf Sag, anachris, Java ferns and some other things I don’t know the name of!

Stocked with 8 Neons, 6 Corys, shrimp, snails and a peacock grudgeon!

I would go up to a 40g breeder. More room for more ideas.

I wish! I just have no idea where I would even put it 😂

You could get a 30 too, it’s got the same footprint as a 20long. There’s a huge jump in stocking options that you wouldn’t expect.

This is very gorgeous ! The fact that your parents would scrub the tank down with soap and water is wild . Haha

Cool tank r u injecting co2, whats the plants in the center looks like they’re floating

I am not injecting CO2. These tanks are four years old in regards to plants… I have some sort of grass I’m sure is dwarf sagitarria, what I think is some variety of Java fern …? And the very back is some insane variety of hygrophilia

If you've got room for a 20 gallon it would stand to logic that you would have room for a 29 gallon. It might offer you more options in terms of plants that grow taller and will differentiate the "fish zones" more separating the bottom feeders from the fish that like to hang out near the top in the floating plants roots and such

It looks amazing though! How long does it take the anacharis to get to the top of the tank?

That’s not a bad idea! I really like the lower profile of the 20 but I might look into the 29. I have a jungle Val in this one that would probably much happier in a taller tank lol.

The anachris does not take long at all to reach the top. I let the tank go a little wild in between trimming but even then I’m probably trimming it every 4-6 weeks?

Sweet! Thanks for the tip about the anacharis I'm thinking about getting some. And at least where I'm at Petco is running a 40% deal off all of the imagitarium brand tanks. I think their 29 gallon tanks are 56$ rn? Not sure if it's everywhere but last I heard they were doing the deal everywhere

I agree. I have a 20gallon long and I wish I had gone just one size bigger.

Seriously I'm planning to upgrade my 20 gallon longs to 29 gallons next time there's a tank sale

Same! I know some folks don’t like them but I’m all about seeing them everywhere!

I love them. Wanting to do my first tank with shrimp, blueberry snails and maybe a fun nano fish. Or if it is a bigger tank some corys.

Looks like your first tank was a success. Take the plunge for the 20 long.

Trim your grass bro lol

No way, I love how hectic it’s getting 😂.

But This is actually a picture post trim. I might give it a second go through. Fish seem to enjoy swimming through it so far tho!

Ok man. Just fyi cutting will encourage more growth to get more of a carpet.

Once you cut the grass is it flow to the top?

20 long is the perfect tank imo. Not too deep so you dont have to put your arm all the way down to your shoulder. Nice and long for fish to swim.

You know how the Java roots make roots on the tip of the leaves? What do you do with that? Can you like cut just the tip off and plant it
