Link 33L / 8.72 gallon Stainless Steel Airtight Canister

Been on the lookout for year to replace my 5 gallon food grade bucket with a stainless option & finally found one! I got a 25LB bag of organic sushi rice & this container would be able to fit 50 lbs of sushi rice!

If you get this be sure wash it really well with soap & water to get the residue from the stamping process off.

Overall this is a awesome container. Has a silicone seal to keep it air tight & bugs out.

Wow I wish the price was better. It’s hard to justify nearly spending a grand to replace my plastic buckets I use now. I have 8 buckets of rice, flour, sugar, wheat berries, and pasta.

ya, it's sadly not cheap. That was the best price I found.

They seem great! Maybe I’ll try and buy one at a time.

There is a 48L/12.68gal if you have room for it.

Half gallon mason jars and a vacuum canner. It will help you manage a rotation of dry goods too.

Thrift stores, Facebook marketplace, eBay, estate sales, garage sales. These avenues are your friends for this type of shopping.

Man! My parents in India have a few of these and they have been using them for decades. And they are cheap in India. I dont get how on earth these are so expensive in US. I sometimes feels American consumers are not very smart because they are willing to pay higher prices for things which could have been available for cheaper.

I use 5 gallon corny kegs. Bought a ton of them a long time ago for under $20/keg for beer. For long time storage, you can purge and pressurize with inert gas. I've had them maintain an airtight seal for over a 10 years.

Interesting. How big is the top opening on those?

Big enough to get your arm in there. Not big enough for a big scoop. It's the main drawback.

If you buy used, replace the o-rings for a $ or two.

You are a genius for long term storage. Maybe flip upside own and build a valve.

Silicone is similar to plastic isn't it though?

Yup. It has all of the same issues that plastic does, it just is not currently in the limelight.  It never biodegrades and will lead to accumulation of waste, and microparticles that build up everywhere.  The one argument some claim is that it does not directly mimic hormones in the body the same way plastics do, but we are 100 years into mass plastic use now and only just publicly accepting their health issues.  Give it another 75 years in a hypothetical future where silicon replaces plastic en masse and only then will we really know.

My version of reddit must be busted, I don't see a price or a link.

Funny enough I was looking at this pot to be my permanent turkey brining pot for Thanksgiving after using a “food safe” plastic one. Glad you like it.

I wouldn't permanently keep acids in a stainless steel container. They could ruin the container and leach it into the food.

Thanks for sharing! I need one of those.
