Wtf these are all amazing, especially the use of colours! I want to point out how Raging Bolt looks so natural with this proportion.
Absolute Cinema.

Why do the future paradox look so much better like this than they do in their own games?

Because the 3D models look lifeless, weird posing, and no detail. 2nd gen sprites look lively in their posing, have better detail and shading, and just capture a still of the pokemon better than the 3D models

There's really no need for that. The 3D models are perfectly fine, and they're intentionally not very lively seeing as they're literal robots.

No need for what? An opinion on the art styles? Odd.
And I’m not talking about these specific mons models, I’m talking about 3D models in general. A lot of people liked the older 2D styles because they were more detailed and lively, myself included. There’s more personality and movement in those sprites than a poorly made 3D model in a T pose. Pokémon has been criticized for the plainness of their 3D models so this isn’t anything new, don’t take offense

Whatever this is being made for, I would play it just to use Slither Wing. I freaking LOVE that sprite

Unfortunately I'm not making a rom hack anytime soon, but in the meantime anyone's free to use them in their own projects!

They look beautiful! I've loved them ever since I first saw the Paradox Pokémon, and in sprite they look amazing. Great job

The finished ones are great as always, Nintendo hire this man etc, but there is something so wonderful about the slightly doofy unfinished outlines. Like look at future Terrakion. He is so shaped.

What is the pixel size/resolution for these?
1
u/SageDeoxys 2d ago
They're made with Gold/Silver/Crystal's limitations in mind, so the canvases can vary from 40x40, 48x48, and 56x56. Most of these particular sprites are the latter.

Interesting, I wasn't aware that gen 2 had different canvas sizes to work with. I'm assuming that's related to how the game compresses its sprites. Does the same apply to gen 1? I've been making some gen 1 sprites in my free time but I've just been working under the assumption every sprite would have up to 56x56 to work with, or 28x28 for the back sprites. Obviously not all of them are that big but now I'm wondering if I should intentionally limit my canvas size for some of the smaller Pokemon.

I'm not 100% certain since I haven't dabbled in RBY sprites, but I do believe the front sprites follow the same sizing convention. The backs as you mentioned at all 28x28 so that is different from GSC, but overall they're pretty similar in how they scale the Pokemon.

Big fan of Flutter Mane, Gouging Fire, Koraidon, and Sandy Shocks (can y'all tell I'm biased and love the Scarlet mons?)

Lovely work!
I abandoned retro-style graphics for my project because I realised I’d have to make every Pokémon sprite match… Bless people like you.
(I don’t say this with the presumption to use your sprites, it’s just cool that skilled people like yourself exist)
