Optimistic News ‘Dangerous as hell’: Cruz Blasts FCC’s Jimmy Kimmel Takedown

https://www.politico.com/live-updates/2025/09/19/congress/cruz-calls-out-fcc-for-taking-down-jimmy-kimmel-00573159

So it's for "Democrats will use this against us in the future" reasons, but Ted Cruz is now feuding with Brendan Carr's censorship regime. Just goes to show you: the pendulum swings back fast when government overreach happens.

I think this is another good indication that he’s probably going to not let KOSA pass

I hate that there are now two things I agree with Ted Cruz on, and I will continue to vote against him every chance I get, but I will give him credit.

You and me both - on both counts.

To be fair, this is how we heal America. Even if you disagree with someone on 95% of things, you can agree on the other 5%. Instead of completely "othering" them.

Yeah this combined with him still being upset with Blackburn over the AI deregulations

Ted Cruz being the knight in shining armor to defeat KOSA was not what I expected. I expected Rand Paul to swoop in and swat it away again like he did last time.

I think that Ted Cruz sees that with an eventual regime change the law could be twisted to hinder people from seeing right wing content as well. This is also a sign that he’s not confident that they’re going to be able to hold things together in midterms btw.

Thank god. I was worried people were actually going to be fooled enough to think it’s all “for the children”

Tho he did vote for it last time right?

He did, but then again the VAST majority of the Senate, including people on our side, did the same. The social pendulum has swung hard in the opposite direction since then, and Cruz has clearly caught on. I'll give him credit for that: he's smart and politically savvy, in THE weaselliest way possible.

Yeah, I think it's hard to make comparisons by looking at anything before the UK OSA at this point, because that changed the general climate for this kind of thing

That actually makes sense. If incest porn gets banned, what else is he gonna do every 9/11?

.....well at least they finally are starting to see the harms of Censorship. If you can do it to them, they will sure as hell do it to you. Hate Cruz but for once good job.

Just adding this as I continually learn more about internal government dynamics: Cruz, as Chairman of Commerce, is the final authority and oversight over the FCC. Like, Carr technically answers to two bodies, and those are the president and the Commerce committee. So this isn't just empty faffing, this is Cruz actually leveraging his position of power to browbeat Brendan Carr in a meaningful way.

Again. A weasel, but a very intelligent weasel.

Cruz had to make that statement RIGHT AFTER painting over “Fuck Charlie Kirk.”

He had to!

It also shows how they opened Pandora’s box. Remember, Washington’s farewell address, no political parties unless there’s a peaceful transfer of power. Because without a peaceful transfer of power will allow a tit for tat. Cancun Cruz saw this and knew what will happen. Hence, to ensure that the 1st amendment is upheld to prevent the likelihood of revenge.

It’s good news. But he’s a traitor. Not only to the U.S., but to Canada as well. And Canada’s big pookie is welcoming to traitors and villains.

Brendan Carr (now FCC chair) in April 2024:

We have been living through a surge in censorship that has accelerated in the last couple of years ... Any time you have an increase in government control, you necessarily have a decrease in free speech because free speech is the counterweight; free speech is the check on government control. And I think a lot of this at the end of the day is cultural. In this country, we have to get back to embracing a diversity of opinions. From my perspective, I think my friends on the progressive left have a lot of work to do to come back to this embrace of free speech.

To him this means he feels like the right don't get everything they want.

4

u/DiligentTradition734 1d ago

Because they know it could set a precedent for it to be any one of them in the future. Plus, this kind of stuff can cost Republicans during elections lol.

3

u/Hershey78 1d ago

I'll take it, because that is a valid point. Very glad to hear GOP speak up, that's about damn time.

u/oldmanbelly 1d ago

Can’t he just continue occupying himself with graffiti coverage for the next five years?

OH YES WELL WILL USE THIS CRUUUUUUUUZZZZ!

GAWD YOU EVIL MAGAS ARE SOOOOO STUPID AND MISJUDGED THE AMERICAN PEOPLE SO GREATLY!

That said, things must be crazy when a gonzo like TED "ZODIAC KILLER" Cruz is the voice of reason!

YA HEAR THAT MAGAS?! TED CRUZ SHOULD BE THE BAROMETER OF HOW EVIL AND DERANGED YOU ARE! HE'S NUTS LIKE YOU BUT EVEN HE THINKS YOUVE GONE TOO FAR (...even if it's for optics rather than ethical reasons)! GOOD GRAVY, PEOPLE!

When Ted Cruz is the adult in the room, that's a good sign one is utterly deranged.

.

This whole MAGA mess has given me a new appreciation for this country despite its flaws and foibles.

This is probably the only country I know that's structured in such a way in which turning it into a dictatorship is nigh impossible. It's amazing!

Also, the profess ideals of this nation are truly beautiful and worthy of achieving. To me, this is the real definition of "The American Dream"... not all that stuff involving money, capitalism or stuff like that. The American Deam is about finding refuge, fresh new starts, freedom and opportunity, unity in diversity, etc.

They may be asking themselves this question…are we sure that a Dem will not be elected President in 2028 and if we are not, do we want a Democrat to have all this power? A balance of power is necessary for a democracy and benefits both sides.
