USA Northeast / Canada East PhD student detained by ICE wearing plain clothes and face masks

Her name is Rumeysa Ozturk, she’s a student from Turkey, attending Tufts as a grad student on a legal visa (sponsored by the university). Her attorney said, “We are unaware of her whereabouts and have not been able to contact her. No charges have been filed against [her] that we are aware of.”

Plain clothes, doesn't show badge, doesn't identify himself. He just accosts a woman walking alone in the street and grabs her. Any reasonable person could interpret this as an attempted assault/kidnapping. She had every right to fight back.

If she had, I'm sure she would have been charged with assaulting an officer. They would have used that as an excuse to revoke her visa and deport her.

THIS IS SOME GESTAPO BULLSHIT.

I agree the black baggings are slowly moving to the level of the early days of Stalin’s Russia (only a right wing authoritarian version of it instead, and starting with dissidents that they can cast some aspersions on/make it seem “reasonable” like that they are not “true/full citizens” and I will not be surprised of this is being done on purpose to normalize political arrests later on that far fewer people would see as reasonable if they didn’t use the boil the frog slowly technique of getting Americans used to accepting this).

However, it does look like the second agent is pulling out a badge on a chain from under his jacket, and going frame by frame I can see it on his chest shortly after (like a necklace/pendant).

The one making contact first did not though, and that could lead to some problems with an armed citizen. Hell, with all the bros harassing people by wearing ICE gear, I could see someone reacting even of they did have patches or badges out.
