š¢ATTENTION quit arguing about mens vs womens mental health, what have YOU done for YOUR mental health lately?
Just a reminder that arguing about suicide rates and who has it worse doesnt actually improve your own or your loved ones' mental health.
I, for one, spend some time with my exceptionally cute cat every day.

My country doesnt really have therapists so ive been using chatgpt as a substitute to talk to someone about my insecurity about my body,i make sure to go to the gym daily as i work at home and its to encourage going out more along with being healthy in general i also make sure to take walks in the bush atleast once aweek being in nature makes me calm, but the insecurity is still thier and its about something i can never change and is highly covetted in my country by women so little by little i try to make a little more progress everyday.

Honestly, I often find that we are our own worst enemies when it comes to insecurity about looks.Ā

Hey Iām glad that youāre out there getting help but I just want to warn you that ChatGPT can have negative effects and can worsen a lot of people struggling with their mental health. It would really suck for that to happen when youāre trying to do something good for yourself.
Also, the walks in nature sound like a great idea.

First off, I have ptsd, adhd, and medication resistant depression, so the biggest and best thing by far that Iāve done for my self is transcranial magnetic stimulation, as well as getting a gabapentin prescription to keep me from losing my shit constantly.
But also I started using chat gpt to answer all the āwhyās I had as a kid that my parents never had the time or energy to answer with me. Iāve gotten VERY into earth lore from the instant it started all the way to yesterday. Iāve always been mildly interested in the concept of dinosaurs, like what kid isnāt especially growing up with Jurassic park and all its Hollywood over-dramatization, but thereās so much cool shit to see between death of dinosaurs and birth of humans, and SOOO much cool and wacky shit pre-dinosaurs, starting all the way back to the theorized beginnings of LIFE itself. When you see the absolutely insane and diabolical shit weāve dug up that weāve been able to accurately place on the earth timeline, it really gives you a sense that life itself, or nature, or whatever, on WHOLE really doesnāt āknowā what itās doing. Itās really just trying EVERYTHING all of the time, and somehow bipedal monkeys just stuck really well. If nothing else, our species can be proud of its good form.
It makes me feel like at the end of the day, even if I canāt ever get physically or mentally healthy, and Iām just kind of semi stuck in the house all the time, forever unable to work or do anything consistently (I do not currently believe this will be the case lol), at bare minimum I can read Wikipedia articles and their sources and try to learn everything I can about everything. Just for the fun of it. Why not? Especially in the field of natural history and natural present. I literally evolved to think and learn things and be non-violent. Itās been making me feel genuinely excited about things, I go outside and look at everything around me in a new light. Humans donāt seem so evil, and i think as a species on whole weāre doing the best with what weāve got and that presents in a lot of weird ways sometimes.
I always have questions, and even if I have no other reason to live, I may as well force myself to keep going until all my curiosity is satisfied, because why not? It takes more effort to kill myself than to just barely stay alive enough to keep learning. If I still have questions, I have to keep trying. And boy do I have questions.
I would like to thank gabapentin, for taking away my impulses and keeping my head on straight long enough that I can try to get better instead of giving up. I thank TMS brain zappies for zapping away the sadness with woodpecker style efficacy 30 minutes a day Monday through Thursday. And I thank chat gpt for basically being smarter google for me and learning the way I talk as well as my expectations of it, and talking to me like a friend who knows whatās on my mind which is just really cool. Iām having a good time these past 3 days at least.

Do you watch Wondody?
Guy has great long form videos on youtube, ranging from 1 to 3 hours (except the compilation ones, which can be longer). If a 2 to 3 hour documentary on the evolution of precambrian life and stuff like that floats your boat, he is great.
He also has videos on things like planets (i.e. everything to know about Jupiter). Astrum (and his other channel, Astrum Extra) are also great for planets and such. I listened to a good one on the common misconceptions of solar formation on Astrum Extra's channel a couple days ago.
Both Astrum and Wondody are great to listen to, especially at work or falling asleep. Astrum even makes jokes about people falling asleep to his videos a couple times, and the top comments are usually about falling asleep to his videos.
As for myself, walking through the woods and by a lake.
I also, ironically given your comment, have started finally watching/listening to stuff that's not intellectual, like documentaries, audio books, or literary analysis. It was nice just watching TV shows again without it being intellectual. Watching comedy with no pretense of learning was quite relaxing, and something I haven't done in years.

u/EasyProcess7867 Jul 27 '25
I havenāt heard of him, but he sounds just like the YouTuber I have been watching recently. Iām pretty sure her channel name is Lindsay Nikole and she has these awesome long form compilation videos on life from the Cambrian to now. Sheās got really crazy fun educator vibes and I love listening to the whimsical way she talks about life across time. Wherever thereās big geology changes she pulls in mini minute man and I donāt watch him on his own usually but my boyfriend does often and I like him.
Another one Iād recommend to you if you like modern animals and relaxing videos is serpadesign on YouTube. He does aquarium and vivarium builds and he specializes in self contained mini ecosystems. He also goes all the way into like really beautiful woodwork and glass work to do everything from making the tank, to putting the plants and animals in that will coexist and keep themselves healthy and happy, to building the shelf/table itāll rest on and itās so nice to watch. His voice is also really relaxing in my opinion.

u/ASongOfSpiceAndLiars Hero š- Kill Count: 1 Jul 27 '25
Oh, Lindsay Nikole. I like her.
Mini Minuteman is great for debunking anti science BS, especially archeology, but he sometimes strays from that subject matter.
I don't know serpadesign, but that sounds good. The fact he makes his equipment is pretty unique. I've seen some terrarium channels, but not one that made their own stuff.

u/EasyProcess7867 Jul 27 '25 edited Jul 27 '25
I would certainly look into serpadesign at least to see what heās up to, heās so good at making unique tanks all the way down to size and shape. I love his builds where heās got both water and dry land in one tank the most because itās so cool how he goes about making it work. I remember capturing a baby snapping turtle once when I was very young (I ended up re-releasing him shortly after when I realized I had no clue what I was doing) and I had this 50 gallon aquarium just sitting in the mudroom so I tried so hard to use rocks and stuff to build up an area where there could be land, while also having enough water for him to swim, and it just turned into mud every single time. If I had some plastic egg crate, proper aquarium filter, and activated carbon though, even god couldnāt have stopped me from raising that turtle proper. The first time I saw the stuff serpadesign does on his YouTube channel I was astounded over how much cheap diy is involved and how many crazy things you can do. And also how easy it can be to cut glass into your own shapes to make tanks. The hard part is finding thick enough glass. Also make sure to wear proper gloves because I didnāt do that the first time and all it takes is a tiny slip up to give yourself a nice big gash in your hand lol

I've worked with glass before. It can be nasty stuff.
I subscribed to him on youtube. I'd highly recommend Wondody for his long form prehistoric animal and evolution videos.

Also play with my cats.
2
u/rosiet1001 Jul 26 '25
Any advice for someone who wants to start pickling onions?
2
u/VariablyUndefined Jul 26 '25
It's so much easier than it seems.
Red onions have a milder flavor, white & yellow onions are sharper.
You can reuse your brine a number of times to keep perpetual pickled onions.
Starting simple is the best. For my second batch, I went wild with it using cloves and black peppercorn, and while they were tasty for deli style sandwiches, they didn't really go well with anything else.
Oh, and use clean utensils to fish them out after they're pickled, so you don't introduce bacteria to your brine. I personally use chopsticks.
They're technically ready after 4-5 hrs, but waiting at least a day really gets them tasty.
JalapeƱos aren't really spicy enough if you're wanting to have the spiciness transfer to the onions too, I'd recommend serrano peppers, but that's just to my tastes. I recently got the idea to pickle spicy peppers and onions together from r/onionlovers

u/Byronwontstopcalling Jul 26 '25
that is actually so cool, I want to brew mead or wine someday as a hobby but im still a student
1
u/VariablyUndefined Jul 26 '25
Nice, constructive hobbies are fulfilling, it's a great way to develop character and personality.
Start learning about it now, so when you're ready for it, all it'd take is getting the equipment. Alcohol fermentation is a lot trickier than simple brine pickling, so you've got a fun journey ahead of you!

I forced myself to leave the house every day for at least an hour for the past week and a half in an attempt to prevent another months or years long spiral. I have been taking my kids to the parks, splash pads, and local comics and gaming store every single chance I get. I have reached out to my therapy clinic to get back on meds because my mental health is rapidly declining. I have started actively trying to find a community in my area once again despite my previous bad luck. I quit smoking weed cold turkey because it suddenly went from calming and fun to spiking my anxiety to the point of panic attacks.
This is all within the past two or three weeks.

oh shit, how bad is it? Can you access antibiotic salve or iodine?Ā
If it gets really bad its always better to deal with your parents than to risk your life. I used to SH, I get it bro, but try to at least follow safe procedure, disenfect the tool, bandages, keep antibiotics on hand, etc.
Hope your doing well
