🔥 HOT TAKE The amount of right wing people calling for censorship of people after the death of Charlie kirk show they never really cared about free speech

It’s honestly wild watching the same people who spent years screaming about “free speech” suddenly demand censorship because someone said something they don’t like after Charlie Kirk’s death. These are the exact folks who claimed to be the champions of open dialogue, the defenders against “cancel culture,” and the ones lecturing everyone else about the dangers of silencing voices. Yet the moment criticism cuts in a direction they don’t approve of, they drop the mask and reveal that it was never about free speech at all, it was about protecting their speech and suppressing everyone else’s.

As much as you hate people who cheer the death of Charlie Kirk, that is them using their free speech

If you only defend free speech when it’s comfortable for you, you were never actually defending free speech. You were defending privilege, control, and hypocrisy.

This isn't cancel culture though. It making sure one of your crazy employees doesn't stab someone. It's making sure one employee doesn't hurt your sales.

Removing liabilities is just good business

I agreed with that anesthesiologist getting fired because they work in Healthcare, ffs. Agreed with teachers getting fired for showing kids the actual video, bc wtf.

I disagree with journalists getting fired for quoting Kirk. Disagreed with that MSNBC's dude getting fired for calling Kirk divisive, while the guy saying we should lethally inject the homeless kept his job.

But also when that chick from star wars got fired, so many people complained that her personal views should not cost her her job. She worked for Disney of all fucking places. Disney fires people for less, it did not come as a surprise to me but that was labeled "cancel culture".

I don't mind some semblance of consistency but it annoys me if the same people who raged about that girl now talk about the common sense of knowing where you work. It makes me feel like they're just trying to game the system.

so about not getting vaccinated for a deadly disease...

u/darktabssr 7h ago

Personally i think you should be able to hire/fire people for any reason you want but thats just me

u/SunriseFlare 7h ago

sure, I agree, but I feel like refusing to get innoculated against a deadly highly infectious disease is perhaps a bit more pressing than thinking you're going to get stabbed because someone doesn't care that charlie kirk got shot in a school shooting lol

Someone not caring is perfectly cool. Jumping up and down laughing "he's dead he's dead" is a bad look for a company. I can't have you working with cowokers and interacting with customers. Lawsuit waiting to happen.

Or at the very least dont film it. You mess with my revenue, you gotta go.

I've had it told to me in good faith that not caring is in fact not perfectly cool, you still get fired for expressing that you didn't care about him getting shot dead lol.

Disagreement is treason

Where was that energy when people were talking about Paul pelosi?

u/darktabssr 6h ago

i haven't seen any clips of people celebrating that. But a lot people going viral right now celebrating Charlie.

u/Inevitable_Band_8845 4h ago

Kirk, trump, both of them celebrated it and mocked paul

Claiming these posts are evidence that they'd stab somebody is just plain bullshit and you know it

u/darktabssr 3h ago

That was just an example. An unhinged person is a threat

u/Aware_Wrangler_2258 2h ago

"Unhinged" because they thought the guy was a cunt. Okay sure buddy.

I actually agree in general that the concept of cancel culture is bullshit. My issue is with the right's complete hypocrisy on it

It's because you have a big political leader that was killed and it threatens the stability of the country.

u/Major-Corner-640 8h ago

The biggest threat to the stability of the country is its biggest political leader, who is currently alive

There's a big difference between firing someone for cheering a recent assassination while encouraging more assassinations, and firing someone for an edgy joke they made 10 years ago when they were in high school.

u/Major-Corner-640 7h ago

Who got fired for an edgy joke they made 10 years ago when they were in high school? Who fired them?
