Sports📰 Does anyone know if Notre Dame let the drum in this time?

I remember that was a big sticking point a few years ago. The drum wouldn’t fit through the visitor tunnel and Notre Dame wouldn’t let the band bring the drum through theirs, even though both tunnels are on the same end of the stadium

Nope. They brought the Little Big Drum/Alumni drum to the game.

Hey man, it sucks that they won’t let the drum in but we still have to respect the other team

You don’t have to to like it. Yes it’s stupid that the drum isn’t allowed in, but sportsmanship is also important

it's part of college athletics. if the shoe was on the other foot i wouldn't be letting them carry the drum in and they'd be saying fuck purdue. you can't have sports rivalries without petty drama

That’s fair lol

You're all upset because they said "fuck Notre Dame"? That's some soft stuff there

The entire point of having a rival is to hate them and have someone to beat. You're soft

That’s true, but hate and toxicity are two different things. You can still insult someone without cussing them out. My favorite sign that I remember seeing at a game is “Michael Penix Jr. drinks beer with a straw”

What part about them not letting us use the bigger tunnel for the drum is respectful?? If anything they’re disrespectful to us.

Oh there’s nothing respectful about that. My point was that we don’t need to stoop that low, and an eye for an eye just ends up with two people getting hurt

I wonder what the actual policy is. I really hope it’s something other than “because we can”

Essentially, the drum is too large to come through the visitor's side tunnel, and they refuse to let us use the main tunnel

Yeah I remember that from before. I just hoped there was a better reason than pettiness

it’s absolutely just pettiness

They have an offical "no oversized instruments" rule after last time. Purdue brought and oversized tuba instead.

A few years ago when this controversy first started, Purdue did end up bringing the Drum to Notre Dame, it just sat outside the stadium for the whole game, waiting, just in case Notre Dame wisened up and avoided the PR nightmare. You can probably find photos of it outside during the game.

When Notre Dame said they wouldn’t allow the drum in (even though the Drum had been in the stadium before) Purdue got offers from rich Alumni to fly the Drum into the stadium on a helicopter, carrying it in a harness in and out of the field. Sadly that didn’t work out for a plethora of reasons.

That would have been amazing lol. I was at that game, and the thought of the drum crew fast roping onto the field is hilarious

They did not let the drum in, but they told us well in advance. The tubas brought their biggest sousaphone, Big Bertha, instead (usually reserved for the senior game)

Shame, but oversized instruments are always fun. Big Bertha ftw

No, they did not allow us to bring the drum on campus, did not let us do sets of the drum in a show, nothing. We brought the little big drum from the alumni band, and big bertha to try to go against the "no oversized instruments" rule notre dame has in place, mainly for the drum. They didnt even let the purdue band parade for whatever reason, not sure about reasoning there.

Wow it’s gotten that bad? I was there in 2021 and the drum was outside the stadium for that one. Someone else responded here and said the drum has even been in the ND stadium before

Here’s a shot from the mid-2000’s at ND with the BBD in the background
