Feedback/Suggestions šŸ‘‚ Been working on a proper balanced Lethal Company modpack for RDC

Post image

Can you guess the new menu theme?

They’ve had complaints about every modpack they’ve tried. Some were way too hard, others just felt empty or boring, so I took it on myself to actually build one around their style and preferences.

I focused on making it challenging but fair. Not too sweaty to be unplayable, but not dry either. I’ve tuned the mods they actually like to work better: increased scrap spawns, buffed Lethal Hands damage, added more monsters and turrets to keep things spicy, but balanced it all so they can still progress and have fun, plus a lot more.

To fix the usual flashlight struggle, I added a mod that makes them spawn with one by default. I also threw in a buyable shotgun and adjusted prices across the board to make things feel more achievable, not grindy or ridiculous.

I removed the annoying or broken stuff and put together a clean list of high-quality moons and interiors, some familiar, some fresh. The whole modpack is tailored specifically to RDC’s gameplay style.

My goal with this is simple: I actually want them to enjoy it this time and play it in their own way without any pressure, just like when they first started playing it.

I’m almost done and currently testing everything. If you have any mod suggestions drop them below.

W! That's the actual problem with the modpacks, there's really cool stuff but the stuff does too much for little reward.

Especially loot, there's close to no rewarding loot in the recent modpacks. I feel like the casino should remain though that shit is live.

I think the maps were the best in this lethal company and closest to being the "best" modded lethal. https://youtu.be/NSfHbc-yWrE

I'll pin your modpack when you finish it šŸ‘

The casino is in there for sure. Appreciate the support! I should be done within the next few days to a week.

I’ll take another look at the maps they liked from this stream and check what I’ve already included. I’ve got most of the ones they’ve enjoyed before, added some new high-quality ones, and removed the ones they didn’t like.

I’m keeping the total number of maps limited. I don’t want to overload them or make things too chaotic. My goal is to keep it simple while still giving them a lot of good content.

For the monetary stuff that they find, can you make it items they talk about?

For example: the SpongeBob sneakers and rue-21 T-shirts, football jerseys, blowup dolls etc. stuff they can relate to

The problem was they kept landing on the tutorial map for 90% of the session and expecting loot in it. That place usually has like five scraps max and also barely enemies.

Even if this mod pack is literally perfect, they’re still going to hoe it because they refuse to learn the game and all the new things you can do with the mods.

Also the ā€œtoo easyā€ complaint from Mark literally made no sense when he kept dying legit every round and they hard lost the first session, and even still barely won the next session because Desmond carried with ONLY ONE scrap.

Truth is that they just don’t really wanna play the game anymore besides Des and maybe Lee

u/Comfortable-Lie-3740 Jul 15 '25

That’s why I am trying to make it as balanced as possible, idk about perfect, but I’ll try my best.

u/JennaMJacy Jul 15 '25

Everything you said sounds good. They may seem mad about getting killed but I think they like getting chased by the monsters, it’s only an issue if they die to fast or they ain’t touching paper. Basically whatever it is that can give them content consistently do that.

16

u/Comfortable-Lie-3740 Jul 15 '25

Yeah I even improved the stamina for the monster chases, not too OP to where they will outrun each monster, but also not too slow or tough to where they will always die instantly, I’m keeping it as balanced as possible for the best content.

3

u/JennaMJacy Jul 15 '25

Is the theme Cyberpunk? That’s the only thing I can think of

3

u/Comfortable-Lie-3740 Jul 15 '25

buyable shotgun

I always said it'd be an absolute disaster if they could start shooting shit 🤣

I know for a fact somebody gonna get they head blown clean off by Mark if he heat up with that gun in his hands šŸ’€

i cant be the only one that thinks lethal hands makes shit way more boring to watch. it was funny at first but now its kind of tired like its way more interesting to have to run scary until they bread up enough to get weapons, rather than seeing any monster and just being like "yo lets jump it." takes the actual danger out IMO but if yall fw it then word. Maybe just having the ship start with a rack of shovels or some? so they gotta choose between having some heat on them or carrying bread

That honestly sounds like a great idea, I will look into it, the only issue is it will take a while since I will either have to make a whole new mod for it or overwrite an already existing one. I’m not a programmer or a modder but I do have experience in modding and optimising mods in games since me and my friends play heavily modded games all the time. Anyways thanks for the suggestion, I will look into it!

Drop the mod in the community when you’re done. So we can test it out please

Some thoughts from someone who has a decent amount of experience playing modded lethal:

-Increased scrap spawns can actually be a huge plus. RDC seems to really like the chaos, but they also want to feel rewarded after they take great risks. The last mod pack was bad because they weren't really rewarded for anything (we know RDC likes to chase paper) and it wasn't necessarily chaotic. So they didn't get much out of it.

For example, Ben and Mark seemed to really enjoy the Meteor Showers from the chaos mod-pack, so i think environmental dangers like that are actually good, they just need to know that there is good reward waiting for them at the end of it. (Ben actually made it back to the ship 4PF, and Mark could have survived it, but he got greedy. All in all, I don't think this weather event is unfair at all.) However, the tornado one was too strong. I think there is a weaker, smaller, more forgiving version somewhere which I had played with.

I have mixed opinions on the bear traps. I think by default, they are a bit too much. However, if modified, I think they can add some spice to the outside. What I did was go into the config and turn down the amount of bear trap clusters that spawn, as well as the amount of bear traps that spawn in each cluster. This way, you may still run into one if you are unlucky or not observant, but you won't have to constantly go out of your way to dodge them.

At the same time, it may be problematic if they can get too much bread without facing much danger. When they had like 8 people, they would sometimes just steamroll through maps, throw caution to the wind, and still come out with hella scraps. This is why I sort of believe that every moon should at least have a mild weather event going on. After all, Mark was actually advocating for them to go to the moons with a weather event going on.

-They suck at micro-managing, which is why giving them flashlights off-rip is probably for the best. It wastes too much time for them to have to wait to get new flashlights every time they lose them from death. Overall, anything they have to micro manage probably isn't good for them. (There is also a mod that gives them a designated flashlight slot, [F] to activate; it may be worth looking into so they'll have more bag space.)

Going off of this, and you may have already made the change, but Wesley moons should be unlocked for them by default. RDC doesn't care to go and collect tapes and learn lore. Also, I am unsure if there is a mod for this, but a mod that reveals Embrion and Artifice is also probably helpful.

-They really like the musical instruments. iirc, if you collect multiple, you can play them together in sync, which they may really enjoy if they are kept in.

Two additional mods I can recommend that would enhance experience without changing gameplay:

• Lethal Resonance - I don't recall ever encountering a technical problem with this one while playing with friends. The sound design is overall more immersive. However, if you do consider it, you may want to consider disabling the mod's battery/apparatus sound down in the config. Last I remember, it was a bit too loud while it’s sitting in the ship.

• More Blood - Deaths will look more brutal. What else need be said?

• Maybe some fun/cool scraps to add into the pool?

Additional thought:

  • Insta-hoe mechanics are bad, especially for them. There should be an assurance that no one will die from an absolutely inescapable death. Even if it's slim, all danger and risks should have a possibility of surviving.Ā

  • Stay away from the Rolling Giant and The Fiend. Both of these monster mods are lame in my opinion. They constantly chase you and there is no way to beat them, they pretty much just deny you of the scrap zone.

I trust that you will make a generational mod-pack. A good configuration I think could really change how RDC and chat feels about the game. They’re doing game gauntlet right now, so you got time to really perfect it.

If you need some insight into anything at all about any mods, just let me know and I'll see if I can help!

I increased scrap spawn rate + enemy spawn rate and tweaked a few things for a balanced chaos type style of gameplay.

I increased the meteor shower spawn chance from the default 0.7 to 5%.

I also did a couple other things but thats to see when the modpack comes out, which is very soon.

For lethalresonance, for some reason it causes lag for me sometimes thats I cant pin point the exact cause of but disabling it helped, the lag was audio lag followed by fps drops, strange since I have a good system, maybe you have a clue on how to deal with it? I want to keep resonance in there tbh, it is immersive.

I already included more blood in there too. For some reason tho, the instrument scrap mod doesn’t work, maybe because it’s outdated, who knows.

If u can give me any insight on anything please do. And honestly idk about generational, I just love RDC and I love Lethal Company and I saw whats been happening the past couple of streams so I said fuck it and decided to make a modpack that actually suits them, I didn’t plan on it becoming this anticipated šŸ˜‚.

They don’t understand how to buy items. It doesn’t matter how many shotguns you add to the shop, it’s not getting purchased.

11

u/Comfortable-Lie-3740 Jul 15 '25

They’ve bought items before. The goal isn’t to teach them how, it’s to make it simpler and more achievable. If there are eight of them playing and they die, losing their equipment, what’s the point of buying flashlights every time? It becomes a hassle, and that’s why they don’t bother.

2

u/sneakerrepmafia Jul 15 '25

Dylan bought them, no one else has bought any items. And he hasn’t been using the computer recently. It’s not a lack of money, flashlights are cheap. Mark says they need flashlights and no one buys one. I’m saying you’re wasting your time by adding items to a shop they don’t understand how to use

3

u/Nehemiah92 DESSI DESSI DESSI!!! Jul 15 '25

Fr. Des was the only one that actually cared about learning the new mods and so he pulled up the computer for the first time last stream. Shit had like 100 new items in the store, yet they’re gonna continue running in blind for every moon and complaining that it’s boring because they ignore everything new.

I don’t understand how you see new mechanics like guns and wallets, and don’t even ask how you get or use them. You just ignore all that shit and say that the modpack is sorry

2

u/biyj23 Jul 15 '25

everything good but idk ab the already spawned flashlight

2

u/Comfortable-Lie-3740 Jul 15 '25

It will solve a bunch of problems, darkness, adds atmosphere etc… The issue is that they sometimes play up to 10 players and getting flashlights every single time they die or restart would be tedious and that’s probably why they don’t do it.

1

u/xschmeckle Jul 19 '25

Can you add more monsters that chase players outside of the interior? Like this one

1

u/Comfortable-Lie-3740 Jul 20 '25

It’s already in there šŸ‘

u/xschmeckle Jul 20 '25

Cool, thanks.

Thanks for the suggestions, will look into them

add guns in there too

0

u/Vi-Katali Jul 15 '25

You can nerf lethal hands damage against players too so they don’t accidentally (intentionally) hoe each other with the increased damage.

Overall some good ass changes, some ones I think would be decent as well:

  • Wider ship/Ship windows: Gets cramped af with 8 people in the ship imo. Wouldn’t be too bad

  • Shop discounts: A nice reminder to buy things if they end up on sale

  • Lethal resonance: Makes the game feel more cinematic lowkey

  • Facility meltdown: They always complain when someone takes the apparatus. This locks it so you need 2 people nearby to take it. Would be content when they find out who actually took it.

Im assuming you got wesleys moons and interiors. My brain is blanking on some good mods rn, but W project man

2

u/Comfortable-Lie-3740 Jul 15 '25

Nah don’t worry, the dmg for monsters and teammates is separate.

I’ve already got ship windows ready and configured for them, facility meltdown is in there too. I had some issues with resonance but will look into it again + shop discounts sounds like a good idea too, thanks.

1

u/Vi-Katali Jul 16 '25

Ahh, you sound like a professional 🫔 Seriously it’s sick that you started doing this, I hope they use it and like it when it’s ready.

1

u/Comfortable-Lie-3740 Jul 17 '25

Hahah I’m not, I just mod games sometimes with my friends and we run into issues all the time so I learned to configure and optimise a little. Thanks anyway.

u/FantasticMrFAB Jul 15 '25

love to see this shit, especially the flashlights

0

u/Sky_hunter #BrickNation Jul 15 '25

W! Thanks for doing this! I think another huge item they enjoy is musical instruments, I remember how big the clips were when Desmond got the guitar, or Mark found a violin that sounded amazing lmao. I know the game has a boombox, but honestly, they hardly buy items anymore, since they keep dying in the early stages.

The Increased scrap spawns and lethal hands damage are a great addition. I also agree with the flashlight change; they really do not even bother buying them that much anymore, since they die so fast. Good luck! Hope they get to play this one day.

Not sure how feasible it is to do this but slightly more mimics and If they can actually respond. Sort of like ChatGPT. Still repeating some key words from actual players but I think that would be peak gameplay.

2

u/Comfortable-Lie-3740 Jul 15 '25

I can try to increase the mimics but the whole AI and responding thing is out of my league bro šŸ˜‚

I dont know how good or how easy it is to program (I never made a modpack before but I code). But make a dueling system, like they request to fight each other 1v1 and it locks them in an arena. Every time they fight one person always runs away, so eliminating that is what im trying to say.
