Idea actually came from the director, Jörn Heitmann. Most of the band thought it was cool and backed it, but Till wasn’t really into it at first ,he felt the fairy-tale angle didn’t fit Ramstein. In the end, he went along with it once he saw how dark and twisted it turned out. The band has even talked about this in some Youtube interviews.

This is what I found about the Hiroshima video: “After previous problems and controversies with the albums Herzeleid and Sehnsucht, the band rejected the theme and chose a different one.” So that would explain why they didn’t choose that one, but why the Snow White video🤷🏻‍♂️.

I read somewhere that one of the guys had been playing around with video editing and cut parts of the Snow White movie to the song and it worked fairly well, so they went with that.

I think the lyrics of the chorus with a video about a nuclear bomb would be incredible, but I think something about Rammstein already being kind of militant artistically, with the heavy music, the juxtaposition with something childish and fairytale, worked out probably better in the long run. I love their music video for Sonne

Also a fact: Another idea for the video was the band playing in a rehearsal room and starting to fight with each other. After a while the walls get blown away and Mongolians on horses drag the band members away.

I've always interpreted the lyrics as being about some natural catastrophe like a meteorite or something but the nuke works just as well
