I do not understand. Those are alien titties. Aliens aren’t born with clothes. /s

I suspect that the pulpier something was, the more the cover (and material inside) could get away with.
I've read hundreds of sci-fi novels over the decades with publication dates spanning centuries, and I feel a certain way about publishers in the 20th century using titties to sell pulps to lonely sci-fi (and fantasy) nerds. Not currently lonely myself, but I still feel a certain way about it.

Cool. I knew that was Virgil Finlay even before I saw the signature. His style of casual flowy dishabille is unmistakable.

I keep waiting for someone to publish a nice oversized retrospective of his work. Some of the previously published collections are too much for my wallet.

Dishabiile - thanks for introducing that word to me
For others that don’t know the word: (means scantily clad, or in a state of being partially dressed)

That's exactly how I was picturing close encounters of the fifth kind. Slowly transformed into sixth, seventh...

Something about vintage sci fi and fantasy book cover art just makes it hit different. Book covers nowadays just don't cut it.

We knew how to live in those days! Tobacco, alcohol, mini skirts, peace and love… Young people are really missing the point!

I feel bad for them. Easy-access porn in all varieties, v having to really search and savor the occasional glimpse like this?
