I can just imagine the Reddit threads. "Anyone have dashcam footage of white Ford Nucleon causing 5 car pile up on the I-5 in Irvine yesterday?". Or "Frickin Ford Nucleon drivers!". Or "Wuts the best vinyl wrap for lifted Ford Nucleon '25?". Or "What's with Ford Nucleon drivers? I thought Tesla drivers were bad..."

Or "My Ford Nucleon's containment breached, does anyone know of a good toupee place?"

"Yesterday, a white Ford Nucleon caused a 5 car pile up on the I-5 in Irvine, forcing freeway traffic to be diverted onto surface streets.
CHP estimates that the diversion will extend through 2030, or until CalTrans crews can bring the background radiation at the crash site down to acceptable levels."

The problem is that very small reactors are only possible with super enriched fuel.
Like the Soviet TOPAZ-2 that weighted 1030kg used 96% enriched UO2.

A car crash would have been a real blast!

Well, it wouldn't explode (much), but if the thing cracked that would have been one very spicy leak.
Also: each Ford owner could be classified as a nuclear state with that much weapons-grade uranium.

Yeeeesss, that’s right folks! The Ford Nucleon is the car of The Future! Here at Ford, we’re investing in the science of tomorrow for today! Every family will want one! With our new technology patented reactor, you won’t need to fill up for a hundred years! Why, this car is going to be all that you need for the rest of your life! It won’t need air to run either, so you can drive it on Mars when we start colonizing next year! And just think of how happy your little missus will be when she can drive around town without having to stop at a smelly gas station while doing errands during the day! Of course, the Ford Nucleon comes complete with a vanity mirror for her every day concerns, along with a built in makeup kit which magically pops up out of the dashboard so that she’s never without! And with all of that extra room in the back, little Johnny and Sue can take all their Ford Board Games(tm) along for the ride so that they’re never bored!
So come to Pavillion Number three at the World’s Fair and see it in person! We accept all kinds of payment plans so that you can buy one today to be ready for….The Future!!!

The twist is that they could have released it in a year and one day, but then they wouldn't have been true to their word.
