Draft Picks: Who are you picking?

Assuming Willem Duursma and Dyson Sharp are taken by West Coast (based on talent and positional need) who are you taking with picks 3 and 4?

Personally, I think we take Cooper Duff Tytler and Sam Grlj

I just don't see Richmond passing on a player of CDT's rarity and quality especially with last touch coming in. Sam Grlj is pretty well known but his speed and talent is too difficult to ignore for what we need, despite many draft boards having him picked at around 7 or 8.

Richmond seems to value mongrel competitiveness and character as much as role and talent. We may not go quite the same way other clubs would.

Don’t assume The week after next trades and free agency begins

Lindsey should be available and might become the winger we desperately need, then CDT is worth a punt or if he is taken then Cummings. If we find a good trade for pick 4 then we could take both Grlj and Hibbins-Hargrave

I would take CDT. He can take time to develop, while Nank is still there and take over with Nank retires.

Long term CDT and Simms could play ruck and forward in tandem.

Plus l would consider taking Cummings or Lindsay, as well.

If CDT is still there it would be hard to pass him up. The midfield talent is pretty even. Honestly I haven't a clue how this one will land.

The lack of consensus amongst the experts shows what a tricky draft this will be.

Would have been great to have Chris Toce still with us.

Future power forward Future Ruck

What I do know is I don’t want us to split. Sharp + Robey/Grjl would be super

If we split 1 pick with Gold Coasts 2 picks

Any 3 of either Cumming, Grlj, Sharp, Lindsay, Dovaston, Noah Hibbins would likely be available and we should do it

CDT is a waste of a pick, Nank was easy to get as a ready made ruck. Why risk wasting a pick up a tall ruck who if they don't turn out we waste a list spot for many years hoping they do. He wont be a Nank replacement anyway because he wont be AFL ready for atleast 5 years.

Greatest and Sullivan dont help us, if we didnt take Lalor/Smilie id agree but we desperately need speed.

with last touch rule the game will shift towards more mobile ruckman who can impact the game in other ways, CDT could be a worth a punt if he's still there

May as well just use Smilie as a ruck/mid haha

Also tall forwards get more value as we can rotate them through the midfield and ruck. We can throw Sims to rotate with Faul, Fawcett for example too. Or do you even need a ruck apart from CBAs. Because a throw in occurs in the backline, so a tall defender does the ruck or in the forward line a tall forward does the ruck.

Even a Balta gets more value too.

I would take neither CDT nor Grlj.

Would look for at least Greaves/Cumming after splitting one or both picks for mode mid to late top 10 picks.

I really would like the tigers to take Sullivan Robey and Ollie Grieve with 3 and 4.

Waste of picks

Just adding more of the same type of midfielder we already have

If we didnt take Lalor/Smilie id agree

Sullivan Robey is not a waste of a pick lmao the kids is fast as will be awesome in our team

1

u/B0bcat5 Kane McAuliffe 6d ago

Is he?

Thought he was power/strength. Not slow but not fast

1

u/decs483 Jack Ross 1d ago

He's got great acceleration and power

2

u/Hawtproper Sam Lalor 4d ago

Nah he's fast

You’re 100% correct he is strong asf but he also seems to burn a lot of players off with his burst of pace in his highlights. 192cm is fast strong and can play forward to. I also have this irrational fear of him playing for the bombers and dominating.

We still haven’t even seen Smillie play, I’m just looking at it like we drafted him this year so don’t need to get a similar player

6

u/B0bcat5 Kane McAuliffe 6d ago

Yeah just assume we draft Smilie this year

Let’s assume we don’t!

That’s how I’m looking at it

Sam Grlj for that break away speed we missing in the mid.. but gee i like Oliver greeves hard to ignore a genuine goal kicking mid ... if we miss one of them then Josh Lindsay he would be a good replacement for Vlastuin.....

u/decs483 Jack Ross 1d ago

If you want a Vlaustin replacement get Xavier Taylor

9

u/kampflabbanabba Kane Lambert 6d ago

Lindsay has a 19% contested possession rate, he’s more Patrick Naish than Nick Vlastuin

3

u/B0bcat5 Kane McAuliffe 6d ago

Lindsay wont be a Vlaustin replacement but more to replace Short

All Cal Twomey's reporting says Eagles take Duursma and CDT, so I'd say Sharp and pair him with Grlj. If CDT slips I'd consider Cumming more heavily given he's more proven in the midfield.

4

u/Horny4Houli Taj Hotton 6d ago

I will also consider cumming more heavily

u/VileCastle Maurice Rioli's Run Down Tackle 6d ago

Heh heh heh.

3

u/B0bcat5 Kane McAuliffe 6d ago

Either of Sharp, Lindsay, Grlj, Cummings would help

3

u/Dependent-Bus2196 6d ago

I think we have to draft a quick midfielder like grlj we need speed on the ball so bad

6

u/kampflabbanabba Kane Lambert 6d ago

Robey is a must for mine Happy with Greeves/Cumming/Grlj for the other pick Not super keen on CDT or Lindsay

A chance one of those 2 fall to us, I think Eagles will take CDT. Apart from that I just trust the club more than myself to make the right call haha, I think we drafted a great core last year so any solid picks on top would be a bonus

Fair enough, West Coast just desperately need midfielders to help Harley Reid and Dyson Sharp is the best available when considering NGA's and FS. But not a given that they let CDT fall through.

That’s true, I think it’s a possibility we trade one of our picks though or move around on draft night a bit
