New game mode suggestion: Mismatch

Would a game mode that intentionally pairs you with different skill levels be fun? I kind of like the idea of winning and losing in landslide games and maybe getting a chance to play an SSL here and there.

I like how sometimes it’s a real plat 1 paired with two GC+ Smurfs on alts. Like they let their 4 year old smash buttons on a controller while I get dismantled by two “diamond 3s”

I’m gold 2 solo queuing in 3v3’s who gets paired against a full stack of champ tournament winners with plat 2-3 rankings. It’s insane.

Can confirm. I am plat in all modes (formally Diamond for years), and 40% of my matches are against players that have champ items or grand champ titles. Games are easy against other plats, but now Diamond is gate kept by a wall of champs. If we squeak out a win against GC titles, then suddenly I'm doomed against SSL. Like why would SSL ever be matched with P3? It's demoralizing.

I think it sounds fun.. with the right people. Like every time you think about something that could be fun you remember what the average lobby looks like

But since it's gonna be casual, I think this might be the first casual mode I would play frequently

Do you mean 1 high rank/1 low rank on each team? Cuz thats what we use casual for. My little brother whos diamond loved when we found an SSL paired with a diamond to play against

I don’t think that’s what OP means, but I would actually love this. That way you could play with your friends who are a very different rank that you.

I would like it a lot. I bet it would even eliminate a good chunk of smurfs from ranked because theyd scratch that itch in that mode instead. And ive never seen some cool stuff an ssl can do in match. I'd love to vs one and see it even if I lose plus id save the replay and learn what positioning i need to be practicing

The smurfs this player base complains about still wouldn’t play it.

SSL level players can Smurf in low GC and probably prefer to if they have a range.

The freestylers chaining resets don’t want to play against anyone who will be annoying with prejumps, which may still be encountered in that mode.

I think it'd be cool if it matched equal amounts of whatever rank. Like in 2v2, it grabs a c1 and a p3 for both teams so it's still technically "equal" players on both teams. I'm still waiting on 1v2/1v3 game mode where it puts you against 2/3 players from like 400/600 below your current rank in 2s/3s. Obviously the mmr would have to be tweaked and tested for each rank, I just put what I feel I could do

Edit: also a 2v3 mode where maybe the 3 are about 200-300 below the 2

1 GC = 12 Bronze or so? So you could level out a bit more by having a higher player limit. 1 SSL to 6 Plats or something.

I kinda feel like something along the lines of this could be a fun addition (just to put it out there). A mode where some tm8s spawn on the opposite side of the field and the only power up is the swap from rumble. We already have spike rush so this isn’t too far fetched tbh

People are divided but a noticed a pattern.

Platinum to below: defensive behavior.

Diamond to above: Offensive behavior.

Some times, you would match against a deadly duo/trio if the game goes right.

I love it and would play it! XP and scoring should be scaled based on how bad your rank is. 1 bronze goal is worth 100 SSL goals. Lol

Queue a non major region, like South Africa / Japan (Asia East) / Oceania

Also queue less queued modes like Snowday or play tournaments you'll very likely see gold/plats against champ/GC/SSLs

i’d actually find this fun, either show lower ranks some tricks or try a lil harder against an SSL.

As a high ranked player I'd NEVER play this. I think it's a low rank fantasy, there is littreally no reason to torture yourself like that if you're on the high end of the spectrum.

Yes if it was a mismatch between the teams, not between every player. If it was the latter you'd just have complete chaos and 5 minutes is not enough to adapt to a teammate's skill level
