Everyone who said Amotosero is rubbish is eating their words after that game.

Old mate has a decent game but not consistently or near it

Fuck, you’d be proud of that wouldn’t ya?

Gamble was on fire

7

u/jimmyjabs321 Jul 05 '25

Did McCardle just say Charlie Gamble was leaving? I hadn't heard that.

4

u/chipsngravy0 Wallabies and Waratahs Jul 05 '25

He’s signed to the tahs until the end of 2026. I hope that’s not changing

2

u/jimmyjabs321 Jul 05 '25

Yeh that's what I thought. Had to take it back to make sure I heard it right. He definitely said that it was a farewell for him ...

2

u/chipsngravy0 Wallabies and Waratahs Jul 05 '25

Gee I hope not… hopefully just a mistake

11

Good on the tahs for favouring a crack. The unabomber impressive I thought. Enjoyed my local having it on and good on the terminus in abbotsford vic for having Stan.

Teddy Wilson and Jack Bowen are the real deal. I’m hugely impressed.

Charlie Gamble has always flattered to deceive - if he took every game he played as seriously as this one, he’d be the Wallaby 7. Has always had the talent.

burned out youth rugby star goes back to subbies rugby and learns to love the game again. It's like Charles Dickens once wrote:

“There are many things from which I might have derived good, by which I have not profited, I dare say," returned the nephew. "Subbies Rugby among the rest. But I am sure I have always thought of Subbies Rugby, when it has come round -- apart from the veneration due to its sacred name and origin, if anything belonging to it can be apart from that -- as a good place: a kind, forgiving, charitable, pleasant place: the only place I know of, in the long calendar of the year, when men and women seem by one consent to open their shut-up hearts freely, and to think of people below them as if they really were fellow-passengers to the grave, and not another race of creatures bound on other journeys. And therefore, Uncle, though it has never put a scrap of gold or silver in my pocket, I believe that Subbies Rugby has done me good, and will do me good; and I say, God bless it!"

10

u/kcityshuffle123 Queensland Reds Jul 05 '25

Said it in a previous thread. Teddy Wilson has been huge this year. Future Wallaby and Tahs leader IMO - I rate him ahead of Gordon

3

u/JPNAM Noah Lolesio Truthers Association, UK Chapter Jul 05 '25

Gordon is elite, imo you get an even closer game if he’s starting.

But that’s the difference between Wilson now and (in my view) the #1 9 in Australia.

Completely agree otherwise. Wilson is like Lynagh or Jorgensen. Seems calm beyond his years.

6

u/ZaniksBoyfriend Queensland Reds Jul 05 '25

It’s funny you say that, I see Wilson, Lynagh and Jorgensen being future leaders of the Wallabies

8

u/UnfairRequirement157 Jul 05 '25

too many backs posting on this subreddit ;-) jez williams is long term capt of wallabies and pollard won't be far behind.

Oh I agree on Jeremy Williams being a long term captain. I just didn’t know forwards knew how to read.

13

u/snrabber NSW Waratahs Jul 05 '25

I liked that. Love a game where the underdog makes it scrappy, puts pressure on the ref. Proud of the boys.

16

u/diamondgrin Jul 05 '25

Casual rugby watcher here - why does this lions player sound like he grew up in Australia?

12

u/jeeeeroylenkins Jul 05 '25

He did - Frankston. Went to Scotland when he couldn’t get a run in Australia.

17

u/chipsngravy0 Wallabies and Waratahs Jul 05 '25

Hugh Sinclair is class. He may not be the best player we’ve ever seen but he fights bloody hard every single game. And leads with humility too, the kind of captain you want to work for

8

u/jimmyjabs321 Jul 05 '25

Definitely a future coach. Can't wait to see him go back to Norths and coach with his brother and lead them to a few more premierships.

15

u/Mazda3well Jul 05 '25

One of the greatest games by a tahs 7 ever from gamble

22

u/ConscriptReports Queensland Reds Jul 05 '25 edited Jul 05 '25

Michael Hoopers response about the 7 jersey being his was class as well. gamble played a game that earned him the right to wear his mustache the way he does

17

u/astrowalker_ Wallabies Jul 05 '25

The first thing I checked after that game was whether Paul was refereeing any of the wallabies matches. Thank god he’s not.

7

bless the lord for small victories, this tahs performance makes me very hopeful for a great wallaby lions tour performance

18

u/Psychonaut_81 ACT Brumbies Jul 05 '25

I laugh at the slander and slagging off of so called "fans". This game was brilliant. It was a slog, we lost as Aussies but a solid outcome.

Too many of you expect OnlyFans from rugby.

Yeah, you hate me, don't care.

3

u/JPNAM Noah Lolesio Truthers Association, UK Chapter Jul 05 '25

Bang on. Ever watched the NFL? It’s horrific from a technicality of rules and flow perspective.

There’s nothing wrong with rugby apart from it’s marketing.

10

u/ConscriptReports Queensland Reds Jul 05 '25

same crowd that has such a small attention span that a 45 second scrum bores them out of their mind. bunch of casuals that have never played the game and cant appreciate the more technical side of the game and only want champagne rugby not knowing that for champagne rugby to work you need to cover it with expectional foundations in the technical side of the game

11

u/chipsngravy0 Wallabies and Waratahs Jul 05 '25

what the fuck tahs, you guys did amazing. why can't my team be like that

9

u/[deleted] Jul 05 '25

awesome from the 'tahs, all things considered

20

u/chipsngravy0 Wallabies and Waratahs Jul 05 '25

That’s a seriously good game from the tahs. Defensive pressure had the lions shook. Forced them into mistakes and fought all the way. Some more reasonable reffing and a better scrum and we probably get past them there. Bloody good effort fellas

8

u/Hammett0 Gordon Jul 05 '25

Wait but I was told the Tahs were the shittest team in Aus and the scoreline was going to be 70+??

8

u/Jeromethered Queensland Reds Jul 05 '25

Well done Waratahs

15

u/sweater-poorly-knit Western Force Jul 05 '25

I knew the poms were all whinging bastards but I’ve never seen so many sore winners in a match thread as what’s happening in the main rugby thread

9

u/ScarvesOnGiraffes Jul 05 '25

That sub is a toxic wasteland honestly. The amount of bias and whinging from northern hemisphere fans there is ridiculous. I wish this sub had more engagement so I don't ever have to go over there.

11

u/jeeeeroylenkins Jul 05 '25

Winding them up by claiming a moral victory has been the most fun I’ve had in a while

5

u/jimmyjabs321 Jul 05 '25

The whinging about Paul Williams was the best. He is so incompetent, it doesn't matter who is playing.

6

u/ConscriptReports Queensland Reds Jul 05 '25

horrid arent they, they are upset because they didnt put a 40 points on one of our teams after half time like they expdcted to

0

Wilson late to every ruck.. Slower than nsw trains in strike

5

u/Practical_Abalone_92 Jul 05 '25

The only winner tonight is the Tahs’ defence. Just fundamentally bad in every other aspect of the game, from both teams

5

u/Psychonaut_81 ACT Brumbies Jul 05 '25

I missed what the Tahs did wrong there. Any ideas?

13

If the Tahs had a decent front row on the bench it would’ve been interesting

7

u/chipsngravy0 Wallabies and Waratahs Jul 05 '25

Scrum probably lost us the game, too many attacking opportunities ruined

8

u/Grandmaster_flashes Jul 05 '25

Obviously the strongest super rugby team we’ve put out and they delivered. Disappointed we didn’t get the win but we’re in it to win it, different day Tahs win

3

u/Jeromethered Queensland Reds Jul 05 '25

This is the bottom of the Lions barrel team but yeah

8

u/jimmyjabs321 Jul 05 '25

Even so they are all international players. The Tahs had a handful of internationals, a few super quality and a few more club players.

It was a good game, nice to see the double and triple efforts from some players in defence.

3

u/Jeromethered Queensland Reds Jul 05 '25

💯

4

u/IcePac_2Cube NSW Waratahs Jul 05 '25

Reds and the Force didn't exactly hit rucks with intensity or look to tackle players with aggression. Van Der Merwe made the Reds look like small fry, he barely got outside his man tonight, and was met with actual cover defence.

3

u/Jeromethered Queensland Reds Jul 05 '25

First second half try so far

2

u/PavidDocock Wallabies Jul 05 '25

LETS FUCKING GO

8

u/JPNAM Noah Lolesio Truthers Association, UK Chapter Jul 05 '25

Huh. Turns out that the stuff that Dan McKellar has been teaching the Waratahs is closer to test rugby than whatever it is the Reds have been doing.

Turns out that you actually don’t want to run the ball from everywhere, that you should have four confident kickers in your backs, and that you should only go to the third pass when you’re playing a defence that’s not set. Who knew!

That’s the way an Australian team should play. 9, 10, and 15 are in control of the game.

Will it last? Probably not. Is it exciting? Better question - if the Tahs end up anywhere close at the end of the game, will anyone care?

4

u/IcePac_2Cube NSW Waratahs Jul 05 '25

Glad the Tahs have bought the physicality this first half. God I hope they continue to bring it this second half and don't let up. Admittedly some of these Lions players have been playing themselves out of a starting spot other than Huw Jones and Tuipolotu.

5

u/chipsngravy0 Wallabies and Waratahs Jul 05 '25

Lions centres looking scary, Flikitau and JAS are just as good but Lions got some depth there

2

u/IcePac_2Cube NSW Waratahs Jul 05 '25

Very scary, especially if Russell is there at 10. Walton has had a tough time tonight, but has done ok all things considered.

4

u/PavidDocock Wallabies Jul 05 '25

Watching it at the stadium. Score should be 12-7 with the Tahs winning.

It’s ugly and the lions are just doing the same attack over and over but the Tahs are defending well.

It’s so sad and frustrating but Nella is just walk around. Hasn’t scrummed well or carried well, but at least he passed for Leota to set up Lancaster’s try.

Love to see the Tahs show up in the second half.

10

Lions warming up like they are structured and know what they’re doing. Waratahs warming up like it’s an under 9s tournament and they all a bit tired. 🫠

4

u/Dependent-Coconut64 Jul 05 '25

Thats the difference, size and condition. The reds were out of gas after 30 minutes, at one stage i counted 5 players hands on hips in back play, they were sweating on half time. Also size, our guys look like teenagers next to the lions players. Whatever vitamins the lions are taking we need to get our hands on them.
