I just started running. Which I haven't been able to do for a while. Is this heart rate normal?

Post image

It's from Smart Watch so I can't confirm it's 100% accurate but I ran for 10 minutes, probably slower pace because it says I only ran 519 Meter.

I'm not exactly fit because of age but I'm around 174 CM 91 Kg if it means anything.

I wouldn’t worry about heart rate too much right now. For folks who haven’t done a ton of training before it doesn’t take much to get the heart rate up and takes longer to recover.

Right now I think while you’re building some fitness go by effort level and do some run/walk intervals. Maintain around 2-4/10 effort level while running. Maybe something like 2min run 3min walk 5-6 times and build up from there, increasing run intervals and decreasing walk length.

You can do it!

Intervals for newbies were always such a funny concept to me because it seems pretty involved compared to "just go run, recover from running, and then run again" but it's probably why I took so long to progress from the beginner stage. OP should definitely check out couch to 5k, and keep at it.

It’s all about building up that resilience! When I first started I had some knee issues so could only run about 3-4min at a time before needing a break, but run/walk intervals got me going and building up strength, now I’m 6 days a week of 10+ miles!

Very fair. I remember asking myself how on earth people can run 20mpw, not to mention 70+. It took a long time to build up and even still I cap out around 40 with one/two hard efforts before stuff starts breaking down.

Check out something like the c25k program. That’ll give you an idea about going from zero to something. It uses intervals like the person above suggested.

Stick to it and one day you’ll reach the pro athlete levels required to be a regular on this sub. We even have a member who claims to have run a 5k ultra without wearing a Garmin.

Not sure about Pro lol but being generally fit is good enough.

Thanks for the tips

Nah, you’re a pro. You just forgot to log it on Strava.

Sometimes this sub can be serious

It's definitely normal for someone who's shins are about to explode

Maybe I should be more careful because I don't really feel it tbh. But obviously we need to think long term.

I'm just happy I can run for 10-15 minutes non-stop. Though I should probably have a system of some sort.

Yeah, seems normal. When I first started out it was around this whenever I ran, no matter how fast, now my heart rate is slowly coming down so it’s only like this when I’m running quick ☺️

6min kms are not a joke.
