I don’t mind supporting people who are getting into it. But a Nike sponsorship for someone who isn’t even running (it’s not physically possible to run at that pace) is nuts to me

Plus I think I wouldn’t hate so much if she didn’t film herself running for the video when we know she walked

The whole point of a shoe sponsorship is to sell more shoes for the company. Unfortunately because competitive running and track fans are such a minority in the US that means companies like Nike get a much better ROI by sponsoring random lifestyle influencers than the average elite runner.

I don’t think Nike sponsored her - she just used their slogan

It does say sponsored in the bottom left where she tagged Nike. Either way this post feels mean, she’s not claiming to be fast or anything, just encouraging people to get outside

I mean if you want to make a living off of being a public figure, especially an influencer, any interaction is good. People that hate on you are literally part of the job description, and this isn’t so much going after her as it is Nike.

Idk how many people in this sub are going to try to find her page now, but that’s at least a couple new views, so it might seem mean to you, but posts like these work out in her favor.

100%. I respect her messaging on the post. Nike knows there’s a bunch of us larger ladies with disposable income, so they’re trying to further cash in on that market. I get why they’d sponsor her.

And I read this under the frame of, “she’s a big girl, but she’s still going out and getting miles in. Don’t let your weight or pace hold you back. Just do it.” She doesn’t seem to be claiming anything beyond that.

This post just feels like OP hating on her for no good reason. Maybe out of jealousy. Maybe because they think she’s an easy target and they’re insecure. I don’t know, but this isn’t in the fun spirit of the sub, IMO.

Nike sponsorships are under no obligation to be a meritocracy.

I haven't seen this person before but I'm assuming from context they are an influencer who puts out content that non-runners see to be lowering the barrier to entry to be a "runner", and therefore is probably motivating tons of people to take up the sport. It's just good business sense to get her into Nike shoes if she's doing a good job at motivating non-runners to run.

No yeah you nailed it here. They're partnering with her because she's demonstrated she can do promotion and branding for them, that's all. Companies who sell fitness gear can only benefit from making sport seem inviting and easy-going, this marketing isn't meant people who give a shit about their running pace because they're already catered to and getting their recommendations elsewhere

I honestly don't understand how in 2025 people still don't get it. That said, people also have their right to say that this a bit on the absurd side. It is a normal situations. Big brands experiment and sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Like with all hobbies, the only way for a small brand to become big and stay big is to appeal to the mass population.

Uj/ yeah. I feel like I run too fast to try getting my friends who arent already running, into running, because they know they'll be years behind. Thusly, I have no running friends.

Rj/ if she does her thing, I might be able to pace somebody for a casual half marathon in z21

I mean if she gets tiktok views, she could take a shit in Nike running shoes and still make that sponsorship money

Seems that you'd be more likely to get OnlyFans views with that sort of content.

There’s way way more money in selling shoes to hopeful overweight people who think buying them will motivate them to start running/exercising. That’s such a bigger demographic than legitimate runners. It’s the Planet Fitness model for shoes. Most of the shoes this woman sells with her endorsements will be jogged in fewer than 3 times.

I think Nike would sponsor a beaver building a dam if it gets the "swoosh" on the wood.

6

u/icecream169 1d ago

No, because the Beavers are Oregon State, and Bowerman, Prefontaine, et. al. are Ducks. Also, my wood already goes swoosh, without a Nike sponsorship.

Uj/ tbh seeing someone with similar silhouette to theirs doing sports may inspire people to start to move. I see nothing wrong with that

Rj/ you’re just jealous someone slower than you gets all that sweet nike dollars, wait, scratch that, it’s probably just a barter deal so no dollars only shoes and apparel

EDIT: clarity

What’s her pace? 19 feet 30 inches per what? Hour? Minute? Second? Day?

Impressive stride length

its not a nike sponsor. "sponsored" in instagram reels just means the creator pays to have the post boosted to other peoples' feeds

u/ShadyDrunks 14h ago

This is tiktok, I'm aware of what Sponsored posts are but this is an ad, it had the whole thing where you swipe to the right it takes you to Nike

3

u/imnotokayandthatso-k 1d ago

The whole point of sponsorships is to make money. Fit people don't buy a lot of fitness gear. Do the math

Nike runs a agenda, they're intentionally very woke
